The ScoutCast – Episode 139 – Essential

Don’t get us wrong – we’re not labelling this latest droning session as “essential” listening. However, there’s no getting away from the fact that the concept of essential players has dominated the airwaves at Scout towers over the past week.

In this latest episode, Granville and I take on this meaty subject, whilst chewing over the importance of ownership and spit out the semblance of an opinion on both. Around that main course, we take on the usual bevvy of regulars with the usual haphazard panache.

Essential? Not quite, not even on a rainy Thursday night.

Grab this crucial slice of audio via this link or explore this necessary noise via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Wisdom to Moore and you're gtg. Nothing else is pressing or potentially worth the FT. Falcao is just as able to score big against WBA as are Welbeck, and Sturridge in their respective games.

Alright, need to plan on moving my team in a particular direction.

Which front 8 would you prefer 'in a few weeks'?

    A. 3-5-2

    ADM - Walcott - Sterling - Fabregas - Sigurdsson
    Aguero - Costa - Zamora

    B. 3-4-3

    ADM - Walcott - Sigursson - Chadli - Marney
    Aguero - Costa - Sturridge

    Same defense in both.

Yeah, I thought about that option as well. But not at all convinced by Everton's defense. They'll continue shipping goals after playing on Thursdays every other week.

Oviedo now fit as well. Baines may get the ocassional rest(though unlikely) before a big EL game.

Morning lads, any thoughts on this motley crew?

    Bego. Krul

    Terry. Clyne. PVA. Duff. Naughton

    Fab. Sterling. Siggy. Tadic. Marney.

    Welbeck. Costa. Pelle.

    1ft. and. €3.9m itb

    Thinking Naughton >>>>Baines
    Fab/Sterling >>>>ADM
Leaning towards losing Fab as ADM is more explosive and I already have Costa and no Man Utd cover. Sterling being 'tired ' is also a concern though.
    Any help appreciated cheers. 🙂

Yeah I'm kinda missing the boat on ADM at the moment, think I'd sleep better if he was in my team, plus it's nice to have a player in the Monday night fixture :). Who would you drop for him though Fab or Sterling? Flip a coin maybe?

I don't know if this post by Fivethirtyeight was mentioned here before (Its from 8.10) but its a proper analysis of home-field advantage.

"In the early days of English football, about 60 percent of games were won by the home team. The rest split about equally: 20 percent draws and 20 percent visitor wins. Now, the home team wins only about 40 percent of games, the visitor wins 30 percent, and the rest are draws. This trend doesn’t show signs of slowing. Home-field advantage in English football is disappearing."

Why is this captain choice so hard!? Aguero is at home! but.. Costa is... Costa!

I'm going to approach this in the same way as when my wife asks a questions about her clothes: whatever I pick, it'll be wrong and my weekend will be ruined.

In instances like this, pick the one you think will fail. Then, whatever happens, you will either be proved right or will have made the correct choice. It's a win/win.

This is a good tactic. It's like betting on your team's opponents so if your team wins, great but if they lose, at least you've got some money heading your way!

Mid line for tomorrow... Which one?

    Mane--FAB--Sterling----ADM

    Siggy--FAB---Sterling--ADM

I think Mane has a big game in him tomorrow got in some great positions V Spurs last week.. He seems more tempting than Siggy tbh
