Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Monday

Saido Berahino is amongst the goals once again as West Brom play out a 2-2 home draw with Man United. Stephane Sessegnon, Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind also find the net, whilst Angel Di Maria earns an assist as Radamel Falcao drops to the Red Devils’ bench.

Berahino Nets Again
The youngster continues to thrive as the central striker for West Brom and took his tally to six for the season with a second-half effort against United last night. Now up to 45 points after the first eight Gameweeks, the 5.6-priced Berahino is shaping up to be a decent short-term differential – having netted four times in the last three Gameweeks, he now entertains Palace and Newcastle in the next three, with a trip to porous Leicester sandwiched in between.

Brunt Under the Radar
Having recovered from a groin injury sustained on international duty, Chris Brunt continues to pick up the points for the Midlands outfit. Whilst Stephane Sessegnon’s superb opener grabbed the headlines, Brunt’s creativity is paying off time and again – his assist for Berahino’s goal was the third time in the last four Gameweeks he’s teed up a team-mate to fire home. At 5.4 and with a 0.2% ownership, Brunt could be worth considering for those on the lookout for a short-term midfield punt.

Wisdom in the Points
Unable to feature against parent club Liverpool last time around, the right-back ousted Cristian Gamboa from the starting line-up against United last night. In spite of Alan Irvine’s recent praise for the Costa Rican, it seems he remains behind Wisdom in the pecking order, and with an assist for Sessegnon’s opener, the 12%-owned youngster looks set to remain as one of the most popular cut-price defenders around.

Falcao Benched as United’s Away Toils Continue
With his side seeking a first away win of the season, Louis van Gaal’s team sheet raised a few eyebrows as Radamel Falcao dropped to the bench last night in order to accommodate Adnan Januzaj as United shifted to a 4-2-3-1. The Colombian had scored or assisted in the previous three but was afforded just 19 minutes by his manager last night. With unlikely scorers Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind rescuing a point for the Red Devils, Van Gaal may think twice over omitting Falcao as Chelsea roll up to Old Trafford this coming weekend. After the match, though, he admitted he may opt to keep the new system and also suggested Fellaini’s physical presence may be beneficial in the centre of the park as he continues to tinker with his preferred XI.

Di Maria Ticking Over
The Argentine moved to within a point of the FPL midfield summit after serving up an assist for Fellaini’s strike last night. Snapped up by over 203,000 Fantasy managers prior to the Hawthorns encounter, Di Maria has now played a part in seven of his side’s last 13 goals (three strikes and four assists), but with Chelsea, City and Arsenal in the next four, some owners may be looking at a way out in order to generate cash for the Sergio Aguero. Having limped off with a thigh problem late on, we’ll be anxiously awaiting updates on the 10.2-priced midfielder’s fitness ahead of the weekend deadline.

Have 2 FTs. Moreno needs to go asap. Which one is better move.

    A) Moreno to Spurs defender and keep other ft.

    B) Moreno to Baines and break template midfield (adm, sig, fab, sterling)

          I can't have a 5.5m defender, who doesn't keep clean sheets, or score/assist a lot.

So I got Baines in for him, and broke the template - ADM + Moreno to Eriksen + Baines.

    A) Oscar, Tadic, Duff, Baines (-4)

    C) Barkley, ADM, Duff, Baines (-4)

      C. Eriksen is better than Chadli and will start to shine through, now.
I did once have two spurs mids - Van Der Vaart and Bale. I'm sure they have to be of that kind of quality to be worth getting tow mids from the same team.

Yes. Agreed. I think the extra eriksen upgrade is worth it though as siggy coming into a run of 3 horrible games. After home to Leicester his week (can you hold off on that one?)

Plan was to use my 2 FTs to do PvA & AdM > Baines & Tadic which will leave me with enough money for Siggy > Eriksen so long as the former doesn't drop or the latter rises

Agreed. Hence why the A/ option is easily the best.

Sterling is the shining light in liverpool team. Yes an infrequent rest might happen but still the most consistent and best player they have.

I'd have him over ADM for the next load of games. Eriksen is also a great pick.

Usually I'd be happy to sit through the week and wait for definitive injury news, BUT

My money ITB is so tight another rise in Baines' price with a Sterling rise or ADM fall means that I can't go ahead with my transfers.

What would you do with this lot?

    Bego McCarthy
    Ivan Clyne Naylor Duff Moore
    Siggy ADM Fab Sterling Boyd
    Aguero Costa Cisse

    1FT, 0.1 ITB

    A few ideas:
    A) Ivan -> Baines
    B) Fab -> Tadic/Chadli to potentially upgrade Cisse to Welbeck/Pelle (either right away for a hit or next week)
    C) Something else?

    Fabregas - Sterling - Silva - Sigurdsson
    Costa - Welbeck - Pelle

The majority of big scores occur at home, and homes and aways often alternate.
So, other things being equal, perhaps a big score at home is more likely to be followed by another big score in the next home match, which will usually be the next match but one.

Also, a big score strengthens the probability that the player is in good form, whereas the result of a random coin toss shouldn't change the probability of whether the next one will also be heads.

If you wouldn't mind offering up an opinion?

Stick or switch one of the following : Ulloa and Zaha out and Welbeck + Obertan in - OR - Zaha and PVA out and Chadli and Wisdom in. Either would be for -4 (no other cash to play with).

    Current team :

    Krul / Schmeichel
    Duff / Clyne / Baines / PVA / Ivanovic
    Fabregas / ADM / Zaha / Sterling / Siggy
    Ulloa / Costa / Pelle

Unsure about either of them but I definitely wouldn't do the first one.

So Costa dropped in price last night.

If gonna drop more than .2 within the week will think about it. I've had him from the start though so will lose a wedge if team value in getting him back.

How do you think Sunderland will react to that 8-0 hammering against Arsenal?

A simple 0 - 3 win for Arsenal. Wholesale changes then made to the team. Fixtures very tough in the short term, Adam Johnson to score a double figure haul during this.

    RMT please

    Guzan-Mannone
    Ivanovic-Clyne-Bardsley-Williamson-O'Shea
    DiMaria-Fabregas-Sterling-Sigurdsson-Downing
    Costa-Pellé-Welbeck
0,1 in the bank, 1 FT

I really want to get Aguero, and I guess the only proper way to do it is by getting rid of Welbeck, taking a -4 hit and downgrading massively in midfield. Who would you let go?

I could also do Costa -> Aguero for a lesser downgrade, but isn't it crazy talk to get rid of Costa?

I am in the exact same situation, have the same midfielders and strikers as you and i also have Iva and Clyna. Even though i got 2 ft i can't see a smooth way to bring aguero in without sacrificing costa

I know, it sucks. I also want Baines, but I don't have the funds for that at all. It's gotten to the point now that I somewhat regret bringing in Downing, because if I had a cheaper bench-midfielder I wouldn't have to downgrade as much to bring in Aguero. He sort of "locks up" around 1M.

I hope Costa and/or Aguero gets a long time injury during CL matches this week, just to rid me of the decision 🙂

Would you prefer Welbeck or Sanchez ?

    In fact
    A) Welbeck & ADM
    B) Berahino or Sakho & Sanchez

B for now, but Walcott for Sanchez as soon as he's fit.

New to this so got a quick query: When are deductions taken off from GW score for using more than designated transfers? My -4 hasn't come from my gameweek score yet and more importantly the guy above me in my mini league hasn't had is -8 taken off his gameweek score either.

They don't get deducted from your GW score, only your total.

Unless you're in a head-to-head, where they are deducted at the first points update during the weekend.
