Fixtures

Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 9 – The Weak

Yesterday we rolled out the first installment of our weekly perusal of the fixture list, shining the spotlight on those teams with the easiest opponents over the next four-to-six Gameweeks. Today we turn the tables and expose their luckless brethren with poor looking schedules to follow. We see that Man United’s easy ride has come to an end, while a raft of mid-priced assets from the likes of Swansea and Sunderland could struggle to maintain their Fantasy value.

Man United

“frisking

After an uncomfortable night at The Hawthorns on Monday, Louis van Gaal’s side now face a much sterner test over the next four weeks – a home match against Chelsea is followed by trips to Man City and Arsenal before the fixtures take a turn for the better.

Certainly, anyone who has gambled on the United defence so far needs no persuasion from the fixtures to abandon ship, though Angel Di Maria is an altogether different proposition. Three goals and four assists in six Gameweeks tells a Fantasy fairy-tale, but after limping off against the Baggies to have his thigh packed in ice, we’re yet to hear a prognosis from Old Trafford, with his owners facing a real conundrum. Further up the field, Wayne Rooney sits out the final match of his suspension this week but again, once he’s back the fixtures don’t look ripe for investment. Robin Van Persie looks horribly out of form anyway, while Radamel Falcao owners will be looking for an exit route if Van Gaal continues with the 4-2-3-1 set-up which saw the Colombian afforded just 19 minutes off the bench against the Baggies.

Swansea

“frisking

In spite of some favourable recent fixtures, the Swans have now failed to win in any of the last five Gameweeks. After this week’s home clash with Leicester, the going gets tougher for a while, with three back-to-back fixtures against Everton, Arsenal and Man City looking a real test of their credentials.

With three clean sheets and an assist, Neil Taylor has been good value but these fixtures may cause some owners to consider their options. In midfield, Gylfi Sigurdsson has been extraordinary value but the popular Icelander – who has now blanked in four of the last five – may find himself shedding owners after this week has passed. Wilfried Bony, on the other hand, is on the up with goals in each of the last two and, in contrast to his team-mate, showed himself quite capable of scoring against all-comers last season. Even so, the wise path may still be to wait out these tough opponents before hitching one’s fortunes to the Ivorian’s wagon.

QPR

“frisking

Rooted to the bottom of the table after conceding at least twice in six of the last seven Gameweeks, Fantasy interest could barely be any lower in Harry Redknapp’s basement-dwellers, with only Steven Caulker finding a place in over 5% of FPL sides.

With the R’s now set to face Chelsea and City in the next three matches, the omens don’t look good and with playmaker Joey Barton and the likes of Jordon Mutch still injured in midfield, there’s little to suggest a turnaround could be on the cards. Eduardo Vargas’ brace off the bench against Liverpool may have caught the eye but realistically, few, if any, will be paying 6.4 for a QPR forward at a time when so many budget forwards are firing on all cylinders.

BE WARY OF

Sunderland
Recipients of a thoroughly humiliating thrashing from Southampton, the Black Cats could scarcely have picked a worse time to lose form as the next six Gameweeks hold some nasty looking home encounters with Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea and Man City. Such fixtures mean that it is probably time to part company with the likes of Patrick Van Aanholt and John O’Shea, whilst Vito Mannone owners will be also mulling over a transfer out, in spite of his security of save points. In terms of attackers, Steven Fletcher and Connor Wickham had started to show glimpses of form but these fixtures will deter all but the most optimistic investment.

Crystal Palace
All things considered, The Eagles have fared surprisingly well under Neil Warnock. They could do with a few more points on the board, though, and while there are a few opportunities to do so, the next four Gameweeks contain a trip to Old Trafford and the visit of Liverpool, which make investment in this team somewhat fraught. Robbed of their chief allure – clean sheets – by the departure of Tony Pulis, the defence hasn’t been as porous as some had feared but managers would be wise to wait a few weeks before investing in Julian Speroni or Martin Kelly, whilst Jason Puncheon’s goal scoring seems to have dried up for the time being. Fraizer Campbell, on the other hand ,has quietly racked up three goals in four appearances to make a mockery of his budget price tag, but that rate will surely slow down in the face of tougher opposition.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce’s side have been something of a revelation this season. The Hammers’ handful of new signings have helped deliver their manager’s promise of more attractive, attacking football and the impressive results see them sitting fourth in the league. In truth, their long term fixtures are excellent, but there are a couple of upcoming flies in the ointment which may deter immediate investment, as they host Man City this weekend and roll up to Goodison a few weeks later. It may be best to hold fire on the likes of Adrian and James Tomkins – providing he recovers from a groin problem – for their likely clean sheets, then, whilst Stewart Downing and Diafra Sakho’s appeal will surely be on the rise before long.

Thoughts on Ivanovic? Hasn't produced attacking points in 5 weeks, which makes me unsure if he warrants his now 7.3m price tag,
My question is him or Baines? Very tempted to make this transfer asap, but it would leave me with no chelsea defence and two everton defenders... Worth or not worth?

I'd fancy Ivanovic to do something vs Utd or QPR. Caulker could possibly mark him at set pieces but United gave no-one.

Tojo is quite lightweight for a CB, I noticed. Bit of a mismatch against the Serb.

I personally believe that Everton will step it up a lot now; especially at the back. Though perhaps 2 Everton defenders is a bit too much. Then again, I don't see Chelsea and Ivanovic keeping CS's in the next few weeks I'll be honest.

I have both but Baines for sure, great fixtures, rising form, penalties, FKs. Ivan however is still attacking and more often than not goes into the opponents box. Still I'd go for Baines, he's even cheaper...

Can't decide whether to make the change from di Maria to hazard. Hazards so streaky and he looked like he's about to go on when of his runs last night. But di Maria scares me cus I'm in the top 2k and his ownership is so high. Someone help!!

I know what you mean, but then again it's general opinion that hazard hasn't had a great season so far yet he's only 7 points behind fabregas who is top of the midfielder points ranking and everyone is raving about. He's also only 6 points behind di Maria. Qpr next week is also very tempting whilst di Maria is away at city!

Yer true, but since the slow start he's starting to get back into top form. He' also players for a better team and platys further forward. The fact that' he's on penalties is a massive positive too because goals get 3 bonus.

Played 2 more games than Hazard.

The reason for Di Maria over Hazard is that Utd's points are all going through him whereas at Chelsea they are shared around

Yes that's true, but so far Rooney rvp and Falcao haven't really started firing so far. When they do, surely the points will begin to be shared around?

Berahino looks class and all, but who other than Brunt is going to lay on his chances? His best chances to score are against teams that fancy their chances against West Brom and play a high line.

Morrison is a class player i think. Dorrens, Sess, Gardner? I think they have a pretty decent first XI. Depth at centre half too with McAuley, Olsson, Lescott and C.Dawson

They're solid and organised, but I just can't see them dominating possession enough. Thing is, teams will always try and get a win vs West Brom so thus alone means he'll get chances.

I hear what you're saying but he's had braces against both Burnley and Sunderland, at home on each occasion. Would either of those teams have really gone for it? Actually I suppose they might have because they aren't going to be winning against the bigger teams very often. But you'd expect them to be more cautious generally away from home.

Evening all, just need some assurances that I'm not about to make a horrendous mistake 😯 Sitting pretty in the top 2k at the moment.

    Looking at doing Rafael + ADM + Costa > Baines + Hazard + Welbeck for a -4

Rafael out is a no brainer of course, the ADM to Hazard move isn't strictly necessary as downgrading Costa provides funds, but I'm desperate for Arsenal "cover" (I know...) with their fixtures, and double Chelsea in midfield makes me feel fairly comfortable about not having Costa.

    Would leave me with:

    Forster

    Clyne - Baines - Taylor

    Sterling - Fabregas - Siggy - Hazard

    Pelle - Aguero - Welbeck
    ----------------------------------------------------
    McCarthy - Boyd - Duff - Moore

Hey lads haven't posted an RMT in about a month. Thought I'd ask your thoughts on this team 🙂

              Forster
              Baines Bertrand Naylor
              ADM Sterling Barkley Siggy
              Costa Pelle Aguero (C)

              Sub: Mannone Marney Moore Duff

Thought I'd go against the grain and do Fab to Barkley this week.
              Thanks in advance

Losing Fabs with United and QPR seems brave/mad especially as you have Everton cover in shape of Baines. Not to say Barkley is not capable of good points but I would be amazed in Fabs didnt get a minimum of 15 points over next two game weeks

He's just frustrated me recently with the occasional assist and sitting so deep. Barkley seems more attacking and loves to shoot plus great fixtures

Well he just got his first goal of the season and I feel they could really put QPR to the sword, same goes for United if Mou chooses not to be cautious. I think the Siggy move would make more sense especially if Costa is out you risk having no Chelsea players

Just seen you already have Naismith so three everton would be overkill (despite your loyalities). Looking at your team seems like team it seems that without sacrificing ADM or Costa its hard to jig things around. Maybe look at Tadic if you want to compensate not having Pelle whilst upgrading Siggy

I'm going to hit that Aguero button before the price rises so: should i drop ADM or Sterling to free up funds for Kun? I'll get ADM back either way but right now he has worse fixtures than Sterling...although Liverpool is doing anything but fine....which one?

Both great transfers! Mourinho was blowing kisses up Oscar's arse earlier in the week. Could be a great diff. Shouldn't go wrong with either imo.

you're the only that's certain they're mind games.

first it was a hamstring, now it's being reported as a groin, then we found out he also went to the hospital.

Everybody thinks Mourimho is playing mind games and Costa will be fit, but that assumes Mourinho isn't thinking two steps ahead. In reality, Mourinho's real mind game is that he's convinced people he's only playing mind games and Costa will play when in actually Costa really is injured. Don't feel bad that you've fallen for his game, Mourinho is just too smart..

                  A) Play Moses or Mane (means doubling up with Tadic)?
                  B) RvP or Austin?
                  C) Will Lallana start for Liverpool?

A plumb set of fixtures, Everton look to be coming into form with the likes of Baines and Coleman pushing forward very nicely. Burnley will not be a match for them, nor will the next 5-8 fixtures. This is a small punt but I consider it well rounded and justified. Am happy with my decision.

It's a good pick, you should be. Burnley are absolute toilet too which will help 😉

Sound logic, and un-sheep like. I wish you luck (but not too much)! 🙂

Could have waited a day or so I guess. My move will be for Pelle I think.

Interesting Remy saying he is pissed off he picked up the niggle as now was his chance with Costa out injured.

Even his own players are not immune to Mourinho's mind games.

Seems a bit far stretched. Drogba only referred to Remy as being the other available striker in the Telegraph article.
