Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 9 – Monday

Charlie Austin grabs both goals and Eduardo Vargas bags an assist as QPR see off Villa 2-0 at Loftus Road. Paul Lambert’s side fail to score for the fifth successive league match as popular budget option Alan Hutton misses out with an ankle complaint.

Austin at the Double
The R’s frontman was partnered by Bobby Zamora and scored twice as Harry Redknapp’s side climbed off the bottom with a vital home win over Villa. Owned by just 0.3% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers heading into last night’s encounter, Austin’s brace underlined how increasingly influential he’s becoming in recent matches – that’s three goals and an assist in his last four, compared to a single strike in the first five Gameweeks. With back-to-back showdowns against Chelsea and City in the next two, it’s fair to say few will be looking at the R’s right now, but with Newcastle, Leicester, Swansea and Burnley from Gameweek 12 onwards, the 5.7-priced Austin may yet persuade some he could be worthy of the outlay.

Vargas in the Points Once More
Having emerged from the bench to notch twice against Liverpool, the Chilean was handed a starting role on the right last night before moving up top in light of Zamora’s withdrawal. After teeing up Austin for the second, Vargas took his tally to two goals and a pair of assists in his last three appearances, but at 6.4, few will be willing to consider him over Austin, given that the latter also has spot-kick duties to bolster his appeal.

Ferdinand Benched Again
The centre-half was a sub against Liverpool last time around after sustaining a minor groin problem prior to the match. Despite his availability for last night’s encounter, Redknapp continued with Richard Dunne alongside Steven Caulker and was rewarded with a second clean sheet of the season, suggesting Ferdinand’s pitch time is in real danger, with his 4% of FPL owners looking for a way out.

Another Blank for Villa
The signs look ominous for the Midlands outfit after they failed to score for the fifth successive Gameweek last night. To some extent, it was understandable that Paul Lambert’s side had drawn blanks against Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Everton but hopes were high of a turnaround at Loftus Road, given that their hosts had conceded at least twice in six of the previous seven. Christian Benteke and co. once again failed to impress, and with Spurs, West Ham and Southampton in the next three, Fantasy faith in Villa’s main men is unlikely to pick up anytime soon.

Hutton Worry for Lambert
An ever-present over the first eight Gameweeks for Villa, the right-back was sidelined due to an ankle problem last night. Hutton is the most popular cut-price defender in the FPL game – now up to 4.2, he currently sits in over 13% of sides after serving up three clean sheets in the first four. Having conceded 13 goals and earned his owners four points in the subsequent five, a possible spell on the sidelines could be the ideal opportunity to part company with the Scot as Villa’s toils continue.

2 FT and I'm thinking fabregas and sterling > sanchez and hazard. Can only have one chelsea midfielder as I will have costa and ivanovic in my team all season. Sterling will be back in my team soon again. Good moves ?

Keep Fab. He's so consistent and plays well both with and without costa. Sterling > Sanchez sounds better even if Sanchez is quite costly.

Just feel like my team is a bit template and I would like to take a punt just for the hell of it basically. And Siggy has tough fixtures whereas Barkley has good fixtures.

        Will probably decide on Friday/Saturday.

Great suggestion but I already have triple Saints.

Might just save the FT but seems a little boring. Seems like I have nothing to lose going for Barkley but with Siggy you never quite know.

Cheeky repost before I need to get back to work.

Different day, same question (albeit asked slightly differently).

    A. Boyd - Di Maria - Aguero - Costa
    B. Sterling - Diame - Aguero - Costa
    C. Chadli - Di Maria - Aguero - Welbeck

    Krul / Foster
    Coloccini / Bertrand / Baines / Clyne / Wisdom
    Marney / Sigurdsson / Fábregas
    Pellè

A leaves me with two Burnley midfielders, but is what I'm favouring at the moment. 😯

Costa WILL be fit. He was at training to show Mourinho that hes ready but Mourinho must of still seen signs of the injury. Which is why he didnt play against Chelsea.

He ALSO did not go with the team to Sporting I am led to believe. So that being the case he will be fighting for that first team spot(Which is his, if fit) So lets hope he doesnt pick any knocks up in training and we should be seeing Costa literally tearing the building down. Especially against QPR who have proven to have a terrible defense. I put the QPR win down to Benteke not being a regular goal scorer anymore. Also Aston Villa has not scored in there last games i think either. So not much competition with a team fighting to stay a float.

Wellbeck will get goals thats a given but they come through in dribs and drabs with him. Probs best going for Mane and Baines cos Baines is consistent. Not too sure about Mane but you have got him there for a reason. Im a fond believer of a give a shot player. People like Konchesky or Duff for Leicster and Burnley respectively.

But i have a FT that im not sure with fancy helping me with a suggestion or two??

                Tadic-Fab-Di-Siggy-Sterling

Is it time to move on Siggy...

He has only really had three good GWs.. last 6 GW has yielded 2,2,3,10,2,4 ....

next three games are [Everton, Arsenal, Man City]

possibly a swap for Chadli? who has Villa, Stoke, Hull next three...

straight swap and no hits surely Chadli gets more points than Siggy next 3 and it also means getting rid of the most template player of all. ..

I dont really like your midfield, Liverpool and Spurs both looking poor, also siggys returns have been diminished recently....

    a) Pelle-> Costa

    or

    b) Welbeck-> Costa and downgrade one of ADM/Sterling/Fab for a hit.

A for sure (assuming we get more definitive news re Costa)

      A)

Soton fixtures will take a turn for the worse soon enough, might as well jump ship now. Assuming Costa's fit of course.

      B) Welbeck 》 Costa and Sterling 》 Eriksen?

Not having Baines is killing me, can't bring him in without a hit either 🙁

Probably look to upgrade mannone. apart from that its all good. Could easily do nothing and take the 2 FTs

        Thanks for the feedback,

Yeah i do have one eye on Mannone with the form he's in but happy to punt on him starting against Palace just for this week. May use 2FT to downgrade Krul and upgrade mannone next week though!

    Hi All,

I've had a cracker of a gamweek with 76pts, but what do i do now to keep momentum going?

    My team is as follows:

    Begovic McCarthy

    Bertrand Baines Wisdom Moore Duff

Downing Fabregas Di Maria Sanchez Sterling

    Pellè Berahino Lukaku

I have 1.1m in the bank and 1 Free Transfer.

    -------------------------------------------------------
    Options:

    A. Do nothing and get 2FTs next week.

    B. Sterling 》 Eriksen
    Lukaku 》 Costa (-4pts)

    C. Sterling 》Tadic
    Lukaku 》 Costa (-4pts)

    D. Sterling 》Hazard
    Duff 》 Dummet (-4pts)

    E. Downing 》 Hazard
Lukaku 》 Sakho or Frazer Campbell (-4pts)

    what would you do guys?

Thanks Wheat. im 0.1m short of Sterling straigh to Hazard.. so would have to do Duff to Dummet as hes 0.1m cheaper for a hit. How annoying lol.

Thinking about it and looking at Fabs' history, it would be madness to drop him. He's not even in second gear and he's the top midfielder!

He's already at the top and I can see him giving us even more ppg!

    N Taylor & Sterling > Baines & £6.5 for a hit?

No idea who to have as my midfielder then, not fuzzed about Chadli.
