Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 9

We now have six players balancing on this week’s Suspension Tightrope after Gameweek 9’s fixtures afforded us four new entries. The most popular Fantasy asset sitting just one booking away from a single-match ban is Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas, who earned his fourth caution of the campaign in Sunday’s draw at United.

After collecting just a single yellow in the opening five Gameweeks, the 53%-owned playmaker has incurred the referee’s wrath in three of his last four league matches, and with clashes against QPR, Sunderland and West Brom in the next four, his owners will be praying he can steer clear of further misdemeanours.

Also picking up a fourth booking of the season last weekend was Everton’s Steven Naismith, along with midfield battlers Lee Cattermole and Craig Gardner. Whilst the latter pair have minimal ownership, Naismith sits in 25% of Fantasy Premier League teams, and after netting just once in the last six, looks to be on his last chance for many, with both Saido Berahino and Diafra Sakho offering excellent alternatives in the budget bracket.

This week’s new arrivals join Phil Bardsley and Winston Reid on the Tightrope, then, though Branislav Ivanovic owners can breathe a sigh of relief despite his sending off at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Serbian will serve a one-match ban during Chelsea’s Capital One Cup clash with Shrewsbury this evening and will be available for selection at home to QPR next Saturday.

Also free from suspension for Gameweek 10 is Wayne Rooney, who returns from a three-match enforced absence in time for Sunday’s Manchester derby. The United skipper is nursing a foot problem sustained in training, though, and is rated a doubt for the Etihad showdown.

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, Tottenham centre-half Federico Fazio and Palace defender Damien Delaney also return to action, with the trio having served one-match bans last weekend.

This leaves Cesar Azpilicueta as the only player currently sidelined through suspension. The Chelsea defender misses tonight’s Shrewsbury showdown and Saturday’s home encounter with the R’s before returning to the fray in time for the league leaders’ Gameweek 11 visit to Anfield.

In all seriousness though, and trolling aside, wouldn't Costa have been on the bench if he was fit to be? A short run out would have done him good after a couple of weeks with no football.

Hopefully a 60 min game and taken off early but coming off the bench is a strong possibility too.

Think either of those is the most likely scenario atm rather than him not featuring at all.

Not the worst position to be in given QPR are poor enough to let him score even with just a 20min cameo.

    @Kirby

Clyne might need to be traded out in a few weeks given the way his fixtures take a nasty turn. You could make a case for doing him > Baines now if you can afford it given that Baines is a season keeper. Or, alternatively, take the chance that Coleman will outscore Baines for a second season in a row.

    1. Kirby
      • 13 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

Yeah that's true, I was thinking Clyne to Baines but it's a tough decision as he's my best defender currently.

No - both very consistent but Aguero more explosive. Plus other attacking alternatives at Chelsea, not really at City. And, of course, the fitness question. Aguero is in a league of his own as a premium striker.

This. Silva doesn't often cover Aguero but Fabs will be responsible for a lot of Costa's goals.

Fitness less of advantage, Aguero went through numerous will he/wont he play last season. Pelligirin seems better at managing now.

I'm not supposed to answer this question as I'm a Chelsea fan and obviously admire him as a manager but I think more of the hostility towards him is because others feel threatened by him.

Fans of any club would want him as their manager. I remember United fans salivating at the prospect of Jose replacing SAF

Main problem with Mourinho is that he's got the morals & conscience of a cheese sandwich and has climbed so far up his own erse he really doesn't see what a self indulgent and appallingly rude & disrespectful twat he's become.
But it's football & the modern world and that behaviour is now acceptable.

If I was certain Costa was ok , would be a no brainer. Just had enough of all the uncertainty.

With Sterling though , no regrets dumping , given Liverpools form in general and Balotelli in particular
