Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 11

The Suspension Tightrope doubled in size after an incident-packed Gameweek 11 brought a host of players closer to an automatic one-match ban. Whilst last week’s seven incumbents managed to steer clear of the referee’s wrath and remain on four yellows, they were joined by a further seven players, with Diego Costa the most notable new entry, after the Chelsea striker kept up his remarkable record of being booked in every away appearance in the league so far.

Having missed back-to-back road trips to Palace and Man United over Gameweeks 8-9, Costa’s caution during Saturday’s 2-1 win at Liverpool added to cards accrued at Burnley, Everton and Man City, and given his ability to rack up the yellows on his travels, a ban looks imminent.

Joining Costa on four bookings after their weekend indiscretions are Andreas Weimann, Liam Moore, Richard Dunne, Morgan Schneiderlin and Swansea defensive duo Neil Taylor and Ashley Williams, compounding Garry Monk’s worries at the back, with the likes of Jordi Amat and Federico Fernandez both missing the 2-1 win over Arsenal through injury.

Costa’s caution means that the two most popular players in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game are in danger of toppling off the Tightrope. The 56%-owned Chelsea striker joins team-mate Cesc Fabregas (sitting in 53% of teams), whilst Southampton’s top scorer Graziano Pelle is another asset with big ownership sailing close to the wind.

In terms of newly banned players, Tottenham’s Kyle Naughton is set to face a two-match suspension after earning his second dismissal of the season last weekend. The right-back was sent packing during Sunday’s 2-1 home loss to Stoke after bringing down Victor Moses as the last man, with the Potters winger bearing down on goal. Naughton misses a trip to Hull and home clash with Everton and returns just in time for a Gameweek 14 trip to Chelsea, but with Kyle Walker set to return to first-team training next week, Naughton’s pitch time now looks at major risk.

Unsurprisingly, Tottenham’s decision to appeal Naughton’s ban was rejected by the FA yesterday, after an independent regulatory commission ruled he was guilty of denying Moses a goalscoring opportunity.

Naughton is one of three players suspended for Gameweek 12 duties. QPR defender Rio Ferdinand serves the last of a three-match ban away to Newcastle for his recent Twitter comments, whilst Villa’s Christian Benteke skips the second of a three-match suspension for violent conduct and misses upcoming clashes with Southampton and Burnley.

Arsenal’s Calum Chambers continued his recent ill-disciplined form, and earned a sixth yellow card in just eight Premier League starts for the north London outfit, earning his owners zero points in Sunday’s away loss to Swansea.

Finally, as many as five players return from one-match suspensions in time for Gameweek 12. Both Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole and West Brom’s Craig Gardner toppled off the tightrope in Gameweek 10 and, having sat out the previous round of fixtures, are back in contention for matches against Leicester and Chelsea respectively.

Chris Smalling is available for United’s trip to Arsenal, Palace midfielder and spot-kick taker Mile Jedinak is in the frame as Neil Warnock’s side host Liverpool, whilst Jonjo Shelvey returns for Swansea’s testing trip to the Etihad.

I explained it about a week back in the DZ so I don't blame anyone for not knowing 🙂

It's going to be a series of articles where I go through certain topics/issues with a 'fine tooth comb', so to speak. Hence the name 'Under The Skin'. It will entail getting 'under the skin' of a certain topic.

For example, the Chelsea midfielders was one idea I planned to do, but a regular article has already covered it

When Walcott returns, a comparison between him, Sánchez and Ramsey could be a topic I would do.

I planned to also analyse a teams form, and see where the direct issues could be. The most influential players and such.

Aditionally, I had the idea to look at some of the most popular picks in each position and see how they fare up.

What do you think is the impact of Wally is gonna be on Sanchez's performance once he starts for full 90 mins?

      1. Rödallegabomb ᴿᴮ
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 7 months ago

This is something I will be monitoring, and possibly writing about.

At the minute, I believe he can only boost his overall performance.

Arsenal on a whole have looked lackluster, but Sánchez has performed well. He will continue to do so as long as he has good players around him in good positions, to feed him balls and possibly for him to assist.

Ramsey will also be influential, all three look like good options when fit.

It's only a guessing game at the minute which is why I want to analyse such topics in detail.

I would like an article about the played who have the highest percentage of involvement of goals.
I read everywhere "player x has now had a hand in 6 of the teams 9 goals"
A page analysing this would be very helpful if you had the time.

I don't understand why you would want to buy a Chelsea defender. I've had Terry since GW1 and he's done virtually sod all so I got rid of him for Dummet.
Same as Begovic, since he rarely keeps a cleanie but Stoke's defence are just about good enough to deny him save points. He's out for Krul.
On a more positive note, for anyone who likes Braquo then I can highly recommend Spiral (Engrenages), which is another great French police series.
Funny how the police dramas vary from year to year.
The Wire and The Shield (USA) to The Bridge and The Killing (Danish) and now Braquo and Spiral (French).
It's like a merry-go-round when it comes to police dramas.

If you could buy any GK in the game for your FPL team, who'd it be?

Currently on Begovic, but want to dump soon. Was thinking Courtois, or would it be stupid to spend so much on a GK? Have the funds, comfortably.

Krul is as cheap as chips and suddenly Newcastle look like they have a decent defensive unit.
Not sure what will happen to that if Colo is out, but if he is then Heaton is another cheap option.

This. No stand out options this season apart from Forster but his fixtures are a worry now. Nobody racking up enough saves either like Mannone of last season. So you keep it cheap and play the fixtures, hence Guzan is the best bet atm.

Guzan has some gr8 fixtures till the Jan wc.
Also Cs are very rare apart 4m SOT so far this season.

Their defence has actually been OK, except the ridiculous run of fixtures they had. (Even then, they still didn't lose by 4 or 5 in any as you might have expected with such a tough run)

        "Should improve"
They can't get much worse, and I don't see Jose putting as much emphasis on clean sheets this season so far.

Forster is great, but he could go either way now. He's barely got a save point all season, and I'd expect that to tick up in the bigger games, but he will surely be less consistent.

Him and Fabianski are the top two, probably Fab with their current fixtures.

Whats the rest of your defence. I assume you have Baines, in that case is it optimal to load up that much cash in defence by getting in Azpi? Esp. when so many premium defenders are showing good promise.
Keep Bertrand this week atleast. See if there are other options attracting you next week or go for Naylor imo.
Azpi if you're comfortable with your front 7/8.

        I have

        Baines, Bertrand, Chambers (Hutton, Moore)

Forgot to say that I will be doing this trade next week, definately keeping Bertrand this week.

          * meant premium midfielders there not defenders
As I said if you're happy with your front 7/8 and if Chelsea look convincing defensively then go for Azpi.

Anything need to priorities over that?

Must admit marney to Boyd iv thought about it

If got Boyd would possible have midfielder on bench that scores big

At moment marney always 1 of front 8 that keep on bench.

He dropped because he went from red to yellow flagged. Same with Jelavic. I thought they'd be price protected.

Agree you wouldn't sell now. I'd want to see how Liverpool perform with him back before buying. Could reignite some of their other FPL assets as well.

I just noticed, not only do Soton have bad fixtures in the next few but, after this week they play

United twice, Arsenal twice, everton, city and chelsea. So out of those nine fixtures, there are only two favourable ones (Burnley Away and palace Away)

I think I'll be doing Bertrand -> Azpi next week.

Remember when Greenwindmill followed RMT for his Scout Pick community champion team. He doubled up on Hull because of RMT and everyone laughed.....turns out Hull were one of the only clean sheets that week.

RMT is constantly updated to take into account probability of starting as well as chances of scoring and conceding.

    Similar to TFF's dilemma..

I'm pretty assured to stay with Pelle Cesc if Cesc is fit,
but if he's not which one is better?

    a) Cesc -> Hazard this week.
AdM Pelle -> Siggy Costa (-4) next week

    b) Cesc -> Siggy this week.
    Pelle -> Costa next week.
keep AdM (or bring Hazard for him later)

    Team now is
    Forster
    Baines Chambers Clyne
    Sanchez Chadli diMaria Cesc
    Aguero Sakho Pelle

Other moves involving Forster -> Guzan, Clyne -> Azpi weeks after.

i think B is the best...Siggy may just get something out of that leaky City defence too

Both options will get Costa if he's not carded tbh. 😀
        Bad formatting.

        It's basically whether

        a) Get Hazard this week and not having the flexibility to have AdM.

        b) Get Siggy this week and having the flexibility to choose Haz / AdM next week.

Both can not getting Costa if he's carded. 🙂

Morning chaps - have been pretty pleased with most of my transfers this season and have moved up to 18k without having Baines at any point. However, he's looking more and more essential, even without a run of cleanies... How do these moves sound?

    Guzan
    Clyne | Wisdom | Chester
    Chadli | Sanchez | Fabregas | Tadic
    Kun | Costa | Pelle

    Gilks | Boyd | Bartley | PVA

    0.8 ITB, 2 FT

Chester, PVA, Tadic > Baines, Dummett, Downing (-4)

The first two are fine, although I'm a little scared of another Tadic explosion against a Vlaarless Villa (I profited heartily from the last one). Will those underlying stats translate into points again? Crucially, more points than Baines?

I also have "cover" in the shape of Pelle, but his conversion rate worries me - nothing against Villa and I might ship for Sahko and upgrade Clyne.

    Thoughts?

Guys, on an unrelated note, who was the most expensive FPL player you’ve ever owned? Just started FPL this year and I was quite wondering if someone a few seasons back was as expensive as Aguero today.

      14 Mill Henry.
RVP has been up there, as has CR7.

I have been trying to get my head around this for 2 weeks and have asked on here but with little info to reslove my dilema. Last time I ask but if you have any input please share.

In order to get baines is it worth a minus 4 for any of the following

a,Fab and duff - Baines and Downing

b, ADM and Duff - Baines and Chadli/Downing

C, Pelle and Clyne- Baines and Austin

    D leave as is

    My team is

    Forster ( Gilks)

    Clyne, Duff, Dummett, Wisom, Yun

    Fab,ADM,Sanchez,Siggy

    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

    Any ideas?

Thanks mate Downing over Chadli to save some funds?

Both are good options right now, if you don't need the funds go Chadli, he seems a bigger goal threat, whereas Downing is the assist man.

Thanks lads just as confused as ever. Is Baines really as good as he has been the last month. Rember he had a 9 point kick last week. I feel all pens should be worth 4

C, but wait until next week. Don't take a hit to move Clyne right before a probable clean sheet.
