Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 12 – The Weak

After casting an eye over those teams with some kind schedules to follow last Friday afternoon, we turn our attentions to those with less fortunate fixtures. Sunderland and Hull will do well to steer clear of the drop zone, whilst Stoke face a tough task to retain their current mid-table comforts.

Stoke

“frisking

A plum home clash with Burnley precedes an evil looking run of matches which pits the Potters against Liverpool, United, Arsenal and Chelsea in the subsequent five. Stoke have struggled for defensive returns, with just two clean sheets all season, and Ryan Shawcross’ 12% FPL owners will be thinking of jumping ship here – as indeed will the 7% still keeping faith with Asmir Begovic.

Further up the field, Mark Hughes’ side have stepped up their attacking threat and have notched twice in three of the last four, with only Southampton keeping them out. If they are to prosper, Victor Moses – with a goal or assist in five of the last seven – looks key here, whilst Hughes will be hoping that Bojan Krkic’s goal in a 2-1 win at Spurs last time out is a sign that the Spaniard is finally set to make an impact.

Sunderland

“frisking

The Black Cats’ tails will be up after taking four points in the previous two matches, including a home draw with Everton last time around. Gus Poyet’s side face a testing next few weeks, however, with back-to-back showdowns against Chelsea, City, Liverpool and West Ham from Gameweek 13 onwards certain to keep new number one Costel Pantilimon busy between the posts.

Only an upcoming trip to goal-shy Leicester holds promise for the Wearsiders and, despite racking up 33 points in the last five, Steven Fletcher has yet to convince FPL managers, with the 5.3-priced Scot still sitting in less than 1% of sides – he’s now a doubt after being ruled out of Scotland’s match with England tomorrow. Despite picking up returns in only one of the last seven, Seb Larsson remains Sunderland’s top scorer in the FPL game but few will be willing to consider the Swede, with form and fixtures very much against him.

Hull

“frisking

Steve Bruce will be looking to batten down the hatches as the Tigers prepare for trips to United, Everton and Chelsea in the next five. Whilst the fixtures may frown upon the Humberside outfit, the good news is that the treatment room is starting to empty – Allan McGregor is back in full training and Michael Dawson and Nikica Jelavic are hopeful of returning in time to face Spurs at the KC this coming weekend.

Nonetheless, Bruce is still sweating over Curtis Davies’ fitness after the centre-half was forced off with a back injury in Gameweek 11, whilst a run of three matches without a goal underline just how sorely Jelavic’s absence has been felt. The Hull boss shifted back to a 3-5-2 against Burnley, allowing Mo Diame a more advanced berth once again as Hatem Ben Arfa dropped to the bench, but that schedule suggests Hull look a no-go area right now.

Also Be Wary Of…

Southampton
Fantasy managers face a real dilemma shortly as the schedule takes a turn for the worse for Ronald Koeman’s outfit. Once this week’s trip to injury-hit Villa is out of the way, Southampton then face City, Arsenal, United and Everton in four of the next five – a run of opponents which will severely test their credentials.

With just five goals against all season, those holding the likes of Ryan Bertrand and Nathaniel Clyne may be tempted to keep if the Saints’ outstanding form can prevail over the fixtures. Further up the field, though, Dusan Tadic – with returns in two of the last seven – and Graziano Pelle – without a single shot on target in the last three against Stoke, Hull and Leicester – may well be deemed surplus to requirement.

West Brom
After falling to defeat at home to Newcastle, the Baggies face a tough trio of matches before the schedule smiles kinder in Gameweek 15. Alan Irvine’s side go head-to-head with Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham once the domestic action resumes and immediate investment will surely be tempered. Saido Berahino’s owners will be concerned his two-match goal drought could be extended, whilst a backline that’s been breached twice in four of the last five is unlikely to reap defensive returns right now.

Man United
Louis van Gaal’s troops have grabbed just one win in the last four now, whilst a change in formation has also seen the goals dry up – as evidenced by a narrow 1-0 victory over Palace last time out. Granted, United do have back-to-back home clashes with Hull and Stoke on the horizon but with showdowns against Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool also in the next five Gameweeks, their appeal is limited. Angel di Maria will be looking to improve upon a recent run of two assists in four, whilst Fantasy managers will be hoping Adnan Januzaj or Marouane Fellaini can step up in the mid-price bracket. Up top, Wayne Rooney’s deep-lying role and Robin van Persie’s goal drought deprive us of a valid frontline option as Van Gaal’s tactical tinkering stunts his side’s Fantasy momentum.

I can't find anything either Finally, Tadić played 70 minutes for Serbia as they fell to a 3-1 defeat against Denmark in a UEFA EURO 2016 Group I qualifier . That is all the article says no mention of injury at all . http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20141114-morgan-schneiderlin-shane-long-dusan-tadic-internationals-2084827.aspx

      The rumour came from me.

I am not BSing, a few people on Saints' main forum reported that he was sent back to the club for further treatment on a knee injury and will not feature tomorrow against Greece.

If he doesn't play tomorrow, I'll start to really worry

B is what I have been dealing with for the last 2 weeks. It's got nothing to do with logics. Last week I benched Siggy (vs. ARS) and played Downing who blanked in an easy home game to Villa. Villa without Benteke and without 2 of their starting defenders.

    Foster (Myhill)

    Chambers Bertrand Wisdom BAINES TOMKINS

    DiMaria Sanchez Downing Albrighton FABREGAZ

    Aguero Sakho LUKAKU

    CAPITALS are questionable...
    I am thinking of this:

    BAINES TOMKINS FABS LUKAKU
    to
    CRESSWELL YUN HAZZ COSTA

    -12 or WC ...

Baines Fab Lukaku arent the issues IMO. Tomkins albrighton sakho foster are... you can sort a couple of them through the coming weeks with FT and remember busy weeks coming ahead so savee WC if you have it when you really need it.

If you want to use a wild card, maybe it would be worth considering more and different transfers.
Do not just set you up for this GW.

Is Foster really the best GK moving forward? Most look at Guzan, Fabianski, Adrian (ok, you pick Cresswell, that makes sense).
Chambers - most will bank profit and Debuchy will be back soon
Bertrand - many will shift him
Sakho - might be better to get Austin, especially as you already have Downing

Probably not, but he's worth keeping because he's a decent bench option for £4.4m.

His value will be apparent next month when you are going to need people off your bench to earn you points.

Genuinely stuck, any advice would be great:

    Krul, Foster,

    Kaboul, Coloccini, Moore, Clyne, Chambers,
    Sanchez, Siggy, Hazard, FAbregas, Marney,
    Aguero, Pelle, Welbeck.

Two free transfers, with plans to ditch Kaboul ASAP and the Southampton lot next week.

People are basing it on the 2 defeats Southampton have had already this season and the fact that those teams you listed should, to all intents and purposes, give Southampton much harder games than the teams they've been beating.

Also, those teams are all better equipped to score against Southampton so the likelihood of CS's for their defenders diminishes.

Plus Pelle seems to be suffering a dip and Tadic was a one hit wonder.

How does a Sanchez + Theo double up sound given their fixtures? Won't do it until after Theo gets a start. Imagine they should cover a large part of Arsenal's goals/assists - which doesn't sound like many but the total should increase once he's back.
Rather get an opinion now than after a goal/blank vs United sways opinions.

As an option himself? Will be eased in and rotation risk.
Or diminishes the other 2's returns? Think he helps the support play if anything - holds the ball up much better than Welbeck.

Interesting haha. Ok I take that back, still think Giroud gels better with the midfield though (Sanchez' addition may change that)

Was thinking this earlier. The fixtures are mixed, but there's some excellent home games.

I've been thinking this for a while now. May ditch either AdM or Hazard for Theo and do that double up. Still think it may be a few weeks before Theo actually gets a start though.

Holding fire until he starts but hoping to end up with Sanchez, Fab, AdM, Theo 😯
Rather not go into the back line that funds that 😉

Yeah I think that is a bit too heavy for me at the moment. Not willing to lose Baines and go completely uber at the back to fund that. Happy enough with Downing as 4th mid.

Pelle + Chadili + Bertrand -> Austin, ADM, 4.3 Defender (Wisdom. Dummet, Yun)?

All of this for a -4? But I will make these transfers after the next game week.

Looks good for GW13, yes. Whatever cheapie suits your defender rotations, I think Yun has good home fixtures coming.

OK, don't post on here regularly but have a real conundrum and am genuinely snookered and looking for advice. Jumped the gun last week and brought Walcott in as an alternative to Sanchez hoping he might get Good minutes until he's fully match fit.

Now don't fancy his chances of more than the odd 5 minute run out for a while and have THE FEAR for Sanchez's points. Have 1 FT and can do Pelle and Walcott > Austin and Sanchez for a hit.

Is it just my stubbornness holding me back or should I hang fire?

Hold on to Walcott now. Will definitely start in gw13 if he doesn't vs United.

If you've got him now, I'd keep. He's had a two-week break to build fitness, and his minutes will only increase now.

He's on the naughty list for sure on my team, having him plus Sanchez & Hazard has irked my decision into getting Costa. Might replace w/ Sterling or Wally son.

Will see what I do w/ him next week & assess Costa's availability. Could do w/ a downgrade to Chad right now for him

Is there anybody with Baines, Di Maria or Hazard, Sanchez, Costa and Aguero?

Without making the rest of your side really unbalanced.

      • 10 Years

I have Baines, ADM, Alexis, Costa and Kun. I have the value to have a balanced team, but the bench does need a tidy admittedly.

I have ADM, Fab, Sanchez, Aguero, Costa, Pelle.

I'm missing Baines and have no intention of getting him as his hair annoys me.

It's pretty difficult unless you got 4 or 5 of them at their lowest price, but even then I'm pretty sure it's quite the feat.

I don't have Costa out of those, & attained most of them at their baseline price

If Liverpool improve with Sturridge back in the team would you prefer:

    A) Sterling + Costa + 1.4 (less if you choose fabregas in B)
    B) Hazard/Fabregas + Sturridge

I was unsure at first but it seems pretty straight decision to go for A

      • 10 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

I think the whole Sturridge thing is a bit too simplistic, but ignoring that... A.

        Yeah, I wrote "if" 😛

With Sterling as an option it has to be some injury to aguero or costa, or Sturridge has to come back to 1 goal per game-form to get a spot in my team.. :/
