City Sweating On Aguero Knee Injury

Fantasy managers are on red alert this evening after Sergio Aguero was forced off after just six minutes of City’s 1-0 home win over Everton. Clearly distraught, the Argentine left the pitch in tears amid fears he’s set to spend a spell on the sidelines and post-match, Manuel Pellegrini could offer little to reassure us.

When quizzed on his star striker’s injury, the City boss could only offer:

“Sergio has a knee ligament problem and we will see tomorrow how serious it is. It is not good news and we will see tomorrow when he [visits the doctor] but he won’t be able to play next week. We must wait for the doctor to see how [bad it is] but the important thing is he won’t be fit for the Roma game. We will see tomorrow, but at the moment, we’re not sure [about the length of the injury].”

City travel to Roma on Wednesday in the Champions League and we can certainly expect an early-week prognosis from Pellegrini, affording us time to re-assess our three-man frontlines ahead of the weekend.

Clearly, if Aguero has indeed suffered ligament damage, our worst fears will be realised and could force him out of contention for some time. The South American has lit up the Premier League with 14 goals and three assists and proven the most reliable captaincy contender around – with a goal or assist in 10 of his 15 appearances, Aguero’s explosive potential has seen him serve up hauls of 19, 13 and 16 points in the last eight Gameweeks.

In spite of his displays for Chelsea, Diego Costa, by comparison, has produced a top score of seven points from Gameweek 5 onwards. Whilst the Blues striker is the obvious alternative if Aguero is ruled out, his inability to earn bonus makes him a less appealing captaincy contender. Indeed, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez suffering since moving out wide and Eden Hazard yet to score away from home, Aguero’s possible absence would make the armband conundrum that little bit more difficult in any given Gameweek, as our heavy-hitters struggle for consistency.

Up front, Aguero’s withdrawal came on a day that eight of 14 teams failed to find the net – underlying the paucity of options for our three-man frontlines right now. Charlie Austin’s fine form continued only for the R’s frontman to be sent off against Burnley, leaving the likes of Wilfried Bony, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie the chance to stake a claim for consideration over the next couple of days’ action. Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic could prove unlikely heroes for City but bearing in mind that Aguero has played a part in 65% of his side’s goals when on the pitch this season, the pair have big shoes to fill.

Perhaps we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves but Aguero’s previous when it comes to injuries has many owners understandably on edge. Given that City now face Leicester, Palace, West Brom, Burnley and Sunderland in successive matches, we’ll hold fire for now in the hope that Pellegrini’s initial prognosis was wide of the mark but exit plans will be tentatively penciled in as we eagerly await the next update.

With all this cash left from Aguero & neither YYT, Rooney or Costa really tempting me.
It looks like it's the perfect time for a much needed Marney upgrade & some solid rotation with maybe even Sanchez getting rested soon.

    I'm looking at Aguero & Marney --> Lukaku/Tekkers + City mid(if deemed fit)
Would be for a hit, but there's very little risk the former will outscore, no?

    Aguero injury prediction.
    Medial ligament, probably grade 2
    Prognosis = 6 weeks out.

Would be very unusual to be ACL (like Walcott) from that incident. If it's medial likely to be able to run straight lines in a couple of weeks but turning and agility will only slowly return.
Hopefully I'm wrong and it's something minor such as fat pad bruising which is the most painful part of the knee but not nearly as structurally important.

    1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 14 Years
      9 years, 6 months ago

No idea, knee injuries are a strange one... Theo looked to be in not much pain at all when he was stretchered off & he's still not properly back nearly a year later... Kun's could be less serious but more painful, hard to know.

I'd be suprised if he was back within 4 weeks though, and with the amount of games over christmas, that's like missing 2 months any other time of the season.

      1. Grumpy Camel
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

Walcott was ACL and they can sometimes be played on (no lateral movement) and are much less painful usually. The way he walked off with the limp says to me it's medial with bone bruising. As you say, sore but a better result from time out of the game.

How long a knee sprain lasts depends on the type of knee sprain, the severity of the injury, the rehabilitation program, and the types of sports played.

In general, milder Grade I and Grade II MCL or LCL sprains heal within 2 to 4 weeks, but other types of knee sprains may take 4 to 12 months.

tl;dr Sprain is 2-4 weeks vs. Tear which is 4-12mths

ATM - Aguero, Austin and Benteke

By the end of the week it should be: Lukaku, Benteke and Rooney

So your saying that Lukaku or Benteje will have better returns? Yah...good luck with that.

Costa is a meh for me. highest score of 7 since gw5. haz is a better captain option than him imo (when che at home) when not at home Rooney, Sanchez etc are good C options

          11m is steep

Don't you think Jovetic back will effect Dzeko's position?

Jovetic is not an out and out striker, Dzeko is.

They will both play together every week

Planning to roll with this to make up for lack of "big hitters"

      Yaya Hazard Alexis Siggy Downing
      Lukaka Dzeko Austin

5 PK takers on my side & great distribution of Captaincy options

Morning everyone. Team in a mess after yesterday's events. Thoughts on what I can do here?

    Foster/Fabianski
    Baines/Ivanovic/Clyne/Yun/Hutton
    Fabregas*/Hazard/Alexis/Siggy/Boyd
    Austin*/Kun*/Kane

    2 FT's, 1.3 million banked.

Lets see for how long Kun is out. Upgrade Boyd and Fab to Yaya, go with 4-5-1?

I've been thinking Kun and Fabregas to Costa and Yaya. Those City fixtures are too good to be true! 😀

I would do Fab to Ya Ya and save 1ft . Can then look at downgrading in defence , in case you need Kane out ?
Your team is not in a big mess , compared to many on here.

Yes, and that too! I'm looking at Kun and Fabregas to Costa and Yaya at the moment. Don't mind holding Austin for another week, and playing Boyd

If you don't captain Costa against Hull at home, he should not be in your team. Not worth the price then.

Exactly what Im thinking. Hazard for now and hope Alexis gets a rest. Then reconsider. He needs it, he looked awfully tired today.

depending on Aguero's situation. I think i'll keep Chambo and Austin and just play Wisdom and SDavis for 2 gws. If aguero's out, then Kun>Rooney? if he's not out, SDavis>Jedinak?

      I'd definitely keep austin

however I think you should sell chambers. he's suspended for one week and by then debuchy should be fully fit

well an aguero downgrade might be able to free up funds for azpi

could also go for a whu defender

Wisdom's playing home next gw so i think i could hold on Chambo for awhile to see if Aguero's out for how long. already have azpili.

            Baines Chambo Azpili Wisdom Duff
