Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 19 – Monday

Adam Lallana scores twice as Liverpool ease past Swansea at Anfield. Alberto Moreno, Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho all serve up the points, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson prods home the visitors’ consolation.

Lallana at the Double

The summer signing threw his hat in the ring as a viable differential for our five-man midfields by bagging a brace in last night’s comprehensive 4-1 win. Fielded on the right of a front three once again, Lallana has started each of the last six Gameweeks and, with three strikes and an assist over that period, he is becoming increasingly influential in Brendan Rodgers’ 3-4-3 formation. Certainly, at a cost of 8.3, he’s far from budget friendly but the Reds upcoming fixtures (LEI, sun, avl, WHM) looks set to bring their main men onto our radars as they belatedly hit their stride.

Henderson in the Points as Rodgers Rings the Changes

Rodgers’ decision to make four alterations saw Steven Gerrard drop to the bench as the versatile Henderson moved into central midfield, allowing Javier Manquillo the right wing-back berth. Handed a share of set-pieces in his captain’s absence, Henderson laid on two of his side’s goals – taking his tally to three assists in the last trio of matches.

At 6.0, the former Sunderland man is a lot easier on the budget than the likes of Lallana, Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho ahead of the kind run of matches and looks nailed on, regardless of formation. Coutinho also ticked over by picking up an assist last night, whilst Sterling, in spite of an impressive shift through the centre, delivered a frustrating blank after hitting the woodwork twice.

Rodgers’ tinkering also saw Alberto Moreno get amongst the goals. Fielded as a left wing-back, the Spaniard’s opener served notice of his possible out-of-position potential, though it remains to be seen whether he can nail down a regular role – he’d started just two of the seven league outings prior to last night. Elsewhere at the back for Rodgers’ side, Martin Skrtel earned a fifth caution of the campaign, meaning he’ll miss Thursday’s clash with the Foxes.

Siggy Remedies Travel Sickness

Whilst Wilfried Bony served up a blank before being subbed off on the hour mark, the Swansea midfielder notched for the second successive Gameweek. Sold by over 200,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers in the last 10 days, Sigurdsson’s failure to produce attacking returns in each of his previous six road trips saw him take a place on many a Fantasy manager’s bench last night – many were left ruing that decision after a close-range effort spoiled the Reds’ clean sheet and took him up to fourth in the FPL midfield standings.

With Bony set to leave imminently for the Africa Cup of Nations, there were concerns over the Icelandic international’s points potential, but judging by the last two matches, it seems he’s found his scoring touch just in time to cushion the blow of the Ivorian’s departure.

Villa and Burnely are both very low scoring teams. Coul get away with one of them but not both imo. Kane over both of them.

Benteke has been poor, mostly because Villa can't attack and Ings is in a similar situation in some regards. I'd not be rushing off to own strikers from teams that are easily shut out. (Though Burnley have improved a little).

I'd take Azpi out, appears to be only Chelsea defender that is a rotation risk, I moved him to Terry a week or so ago as got sick of worrying about whether he'd start, and if he didn't whether he's come on as a sub for 1pt as Mourinho likes to shut up shop rather than really go for it

    A) use free transfer this week to get rid of Clyne or Jagielka. Have to use wc next week to get rid or Yaya and Bony, or take a hit. Can afford all defenders.
    B) Save free transfer for next week. Use 2 free transfers next week to get is of Yaya/Bony and can save WC for a while. Forces me to play Wisdom-Janmaat-Cissokho this week.

On the last article I talked about a possible wildcard team (from GW23 onwards).

People seemed to think Austin was a better option than Kane, but I disagree. Look at Austin's fixtures (particularly his home ones) after GW23. Southampton, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea.

His away fixtures aren't bad but we all know how QPR play away from home...I see him only kicking the odd goal here and there.

Kane, on the other hand, often scores in away games and has wha, ARS, liv, whom, apr, SWA. So not amazing fixtures, but still certainly capable of scoring goals and should be on pens for most of his minutes (assuming Soldado and Townsend don't become Messi and Ronaldo respectively).

    Thoughts?

I'm definitely going with Aguero + one of Rooney/Costa on jan WC (obviously depending on form up until then). Need at least two reliable strikers/captaincy options imo.

Trouble is I'm sure Spurs will be buying a new striker which could place Kane down the pecking order. If they don't then I agree Kane is a great Jan wildcard option - but only for those that leave it late.

Maybe, but I think Kane looks like a player that could benefit having a skilled strikingpartner along/infront of him

I need to sell Chambers. I have 5.6. Looking at the fixtures its either United or West Ham I think. At least I'd be happy to play a United defender in any of the next 4GW's, whereas the Hammers have Liverpool away at the end of January.

United's fixtures actually get better around the time you're planning to WC, if you get Evans or Jones now, you may as well hang onto them?

Is that a bad thing though? If I could carry my Jan WC beyond January that would be great but its not really an option.

The only teams better on the ticker are Liverpool, Burnley, QPR and Crystal Palace. I just don't trust those defences.

No, wasn't saying it was bad at all, just saying that you may as well look at them longer than the next 4 weeks.

Why look beyond a WC though? I don't get it. I get the chance to refresh my team then anyway. Perhaps I should get a Liverpool defender now then change everything on the Jan WC and then get a United defender.

Or is there something to gain from getting a United player now which will be of benefit after I WC?

Lol, we seem to be coming at this from different angles! I'm agreeing with you mate, I think for the next 4 weeks Jones or Evans are a good shout. Was just pointing out that if they are going well at that point, their fixtures get better, so you'll probably be tempted to keep for a while longer. And if they aren't performing, then yeah, dump on your WC.

I see. Yeah it would be nice to be on the wagon early. Might have to throw Sakho in the mix and figure out which of the 3 options is the best.

Sakho gives security of starts + goal threat + fixtures + Pool's defensive form
Don't go by your love for united, that backline is dangerous

Are Liverpools any better? At least United have the excuse of having an injured back line all season. Now that they are fit Jones and Evans will play every game, they are as nailed on as can be.

No, they are not but Stoke away is poor fixture to start with I think for any United defender

Yeah that is true, although I only really need a 1st sub this week anyway. I have 2FT's and nothing to do so yeah.

Anyway I'll look into the stats and see if its worth getting a Liverpool defender instead. Cheers for your help.
