Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 22 – The Weak

Having analysed those sides with the strongest upcoming schedules over the next four to six Gameweeks, we now check out those with tougher fixtures to follow. Aston Villa and Leicester brace themselves for some hard times ahead, whilst Man City and Liverpool are also set for a testing run of matches.

Leicester

“frisking

Nigel Pearson’s side have home clashes with Stoke and Palace in the next three Gameweeks to continue the form that has harvested seven points and a pair of clean sheets in their last three league outings.

Unfortunately for the Foxes, they also go head-to-head with Man United, Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea in the upcoming six rounds of fixtures, suggesting Fantasy points could be few and far between. With three-goal Jeffrey Schlupp injured, Marcin Wasilewski’s 3.9 price tag enhances his appeal as a cheap fifth defender, and with Riyad Mahrez still off on international duties, only David Nugent – with a goal and assist in the last three – has shown any signs of form.

Liverpool

“frisking

A trip to struggling Villa offers hope for the Reds this weekend, but beyond that one, they square up to four of the current top seven (WHM, TOT, sot, MCI) and also face a Merseyside derby trip to Everton.

At the back, Martin Skrtel has earned bonus each time his side have delivered a clean sheet, though the big centre-half may have to rely on his aerial threat in the box to remain in consideration. The imminent return of Daniel Sturridge could provide the spark that reignites our interest in Brendan Rodgers’ main men, though in the meantime, Raheem Sterling – back after a weekend rest – and Philippe Coutinho, with returns in four of his last five, are the likeliest to deliver for the ever-improving Reds, who have dropped just two points in the last four Gameweeks.

Manchester City

“frisking

City’s next two fixtures play a significant part in their place in this week’s article. Nonetheless, having hammered Arsenal 6-3 at the Etihad last season, those holding the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva will have little fear ahead of this weekend’s match, though there’s no denying the trip to Stamford Bridge somewhat curbs our enthusiasm.

Trips to Liverpool and Stoke – the latter having merged victorious at the Etihad earlier in the campaign – could throw a spanner in the works, though our fears are perhaps more focused on the City defence here. Whilst Aguero has shown his fixture-proof potential time and again, a defence that has conceded twice to both Burnley and Sunderland in the last three matches hardly instils much confidence. Vincent Kompany’s return could boost the points of potential of Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy, though – City shipped just one goal in the last four with their captain on board.

Also Be Wary Of….

Swansea
With Wilfried Bony now finally off to City, Garry Monk faces a tough task in addressing a run of form which has seen the Welsh club score more than a single goal in just one of the last ten Gameweeks.

Swansea go head-to-head with Chelsea and Southampton’s resilient defences in the next two and then face Sunderland, West Brom and United’s stubborn rearguards. Few will be willing to gamble on Bafetimbi Gomis right now, in spite of his kind 6.5 price tag, whilst Monk’s recent admission that Gylfi Sigurdsson has been playing through the pain barrier with a foot problem is not what the playmaker’s owners want to hear. At the back, it’s worth noting that all eight of Swansea’s clean sheets have arrived against clubs in the bottom nine, suggesting that invetment in the likes of Lukasz Fabianksi and Neil Taylor should be left alone for now.

West Ham
Big Sam’s side have just two favourable fixtures in the next eight Gameweeks as the schedule continues to turn against them. Those holding Hammers players will be looking for returns at home to Hull this weekend, but following that one, only the visit of Palace in Gameweek 27 (liv, MUN, sot, tot, CPL, CHE, ars) offers some respite.

Stewart Downing sits in 25% of Fantasy Premier League sides but his owners have a real decision to make once the Tigers clash is out of the way, whilst Andy Carroll’s four goals and an assist in the last seven may not be enough to convince. At the back, Allardyce’s outfit have mustered just one clean sheet in the last eight and it’s fair to say that the appeal of Aaron Cresswell and co. looks limited right now.

Aston Villa
Paul Lambert’s side approach a testing run of fixtures in dire form after scoring just one goal in their last six fixtures. Villa will be hoping new playmaker Carles Gil can spark the struggling Christian Benteke back into form after a series of poor displays, though with back-to-back showdowns against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea immediately on the cards, there’s little hope of returns at either end of the pitch.

The Midlands side also travel to Hull and Newcastle and play host to Stoke over the next six matches, though it’s mainly their defence that’s likely to benefit here. Villa haven’t conceded more than a single goal since Gameweek 10, though have frustratingly earned just three clean sheets in the 11 matches over that period. Brad Guzan’s save points and Alan Hutton’s 4.4 price tag are the main attractions, though their appeal is somewhat lessened by a knee injury to Ron Vlaar, which could keep the centre-half on the sidelines for six weeks.

Defoe price predictions if his move to Sunderland goes through?

If he's less than 6.0M he can be another gem!

Apropos of nothing other than it caught my eye again last night I'd like to heartily endorse anyone who is able to watch Marvellous to do so. It's available for another 10 days on the BBC iPlayer (and no doubt other less legal means after that!)

I knew nothing of Neil Baldwin beforehand but I have to say I love him to bits now. I also have new found respect for Lou Macari.

A biopic of Neil Baldwin - a guy diagnosed with learning difficulties who has led a frankly unbelievable life. I mean literally, if this was a work of fiction it would never get made as it would be too far fetched.

Hope I'm not overselling it now!

I did Bony -> Rooney last week and wasn't overly impressed with the results, although if RvP is out you'd expect Rooney to push up front and away to QPR could be fruitful. The only other option which jumps out at me for a single week could be Carroll.

Yes but being injured technically he has no form. No form does not mean bad form.

In the absence of form, you must look at class and the fixture.

And therein lies the dilemma of the decision -- acquire and maybe captain the most threatening forward in the BPL, or avoid or last least not captain because he is rusty or out-of-shape. Many an athelete come back from injury and do poorly, and many come back and pick up where they left off.

This is a prudent thinking. He could come on in the last 30 minutes, and maybe score a goal (maybe not), and that gets a lot of folks here squat with regards to captainship. Or, he could start and be rusty and not produce and come off after 60 minutes. Or, he could start and score a hat trick cos he is rested, healthy, and hungry.

I don't think PVA is nailed on (imo). Poyet is not afraid to drop someone playing badly and PVA is a liability defensively from what I've seen. Plus there is Reveillere waiting to come in too.

Predictions on what % of top 10k will have Aguero this GW?

And what % have him as captain?

I think a lot more will go for him than people think - 70% of teams will have him back and 50% as captain..

Thoughts on this wildcard team? Too punty, plan to play 2 Southampton and Terry at the back until gweek 29!

    Panti Hamer
    Clyne Fonte Terry Baird Wasi
    Hazard Sanchez Tadic Chadli Boyd
    Rooney Aguero Kane

1.2 in bank to upgrade Chadli or Tadic or cheap defenders in future

I wouldn't trust a Baird/Wasi combo but if you plan on never playing them it could work. Rest looks solid, I just can't bring myself to drop Costa for Rooney personally.

Ok guys, need some help with this decision.

    1)DDG, Clyne, Tadic
    or
    2)Forster, Jones, Sterling

In terms of defence, DDG and Forster should score similiarly over the next few weeks imo, but clyne is an a lot more attacking threat then jones.
However Sterling also seems to be a better option then Tadic

    Aguero Costa Kane

Currently on Bertrand and Clyne but thinking of also switching Panti to Forster and bringing in PVA for Sunderland cover.

    1. Just A Hat
      • 15 Years

I think it's a fine tactic, Saints are well solid in defense and Berty Beetle and Washing Clyne can add goals and assists as well

        • 12 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

        Thanks.

Its just obviously if they concede then it would be a low scoring week for me unless I had some attacking returns from them. Having Panti over Forster slightly reduces that risk.

  25. Punty
    • 10 Years

I do think Liverpools next 4 fixtures are pretty good for attackers, Spurs at home and Everton away are usually high scoring, 4-0 and 3-3 last season so even though it's not the same Liverpool this season I don't expect low-scoring matches.

    1. Just A Hat
      • 15 Years

I think I'm getting him or Sterling, leaning towards Coutinho.. but I'm not 100% sure it will pay off, goals and assists are divided between 4-5 players now, not like Sanchez at Arsenal

        1. Klopp's Kids
          • 10 Years

  26. M.I.A.
    • 12 Years

New crowd to ask and I'm pretty happy with this WC team so what do you all think?

    Forster/Hamer
    Bertrand/Clyne/PVA/Wisdom/Baird
    Haz/Fab/Sanchez/Puncheon/Boyd
    Aguero/Costa/Kane

I could have Panti instead of Forster and change PVA to Cameron but quite like the idea of triple Southampton defence. Of course if they conceded any given week then I'm screwed lol but they are pretty solid right?

        He's been excellent recently.

Might even keep his place in Feb imo.

        But what do I know.

      I've had him all year.

He's an enigma wrapped in mystery.

Only playing because there is no Mahrez/ Schlupp atm. Avoid.

    Question:

Bony when back...will he start or be another bench warmer?

    Man City could lineup like:

    Bony Aguero
    Silva Toure Fernandinho Nasri
    Clichy Kompany Mangala Zabaleta
    Hart

I think Silva isn't as good wide so City will continue playing with a lonestriker. This means Dzeko/Jovetic will leave this window or during the summer.

I personally think that line-up will be an omni shambles
      I have been wrong before

Anyone else doubling up on Sanchez (Gunners & Villa), like having an extra captain every week.

Pepin was talking about it. We're having him assessed by medical professionals
