The Big Numbers – Gameweek 22

Our Sunday delve into the members data arrives once again this evening. We cast an analytical eye over Tottenham’s goalscoring playmaker, Palace’s in-form frontman and the Magpies’ flourishing Frenchman, whilst the worrying form of Villa’s misfiring target man and United’s skipper give cause for concern.

Anyone think Bellerin is nailed on for Arsenal? Would love a 4.4 route into the Arsenal backline.

Bit of a transfer dilemma for me. Want to ditch Siggy but have no idea who to swap him for. Already have Sanchez, Haz and Downing. Chadli would be the sensible option but tough fixtures are incoming. Who would you buy? Have 0.7 in the bank.

Well...anyone else feeling the desolation? I don't think there is a worse feeling when your WC team does sooo much worse than what you had.

Sold downing for Haz and costa for Kun. Not real happy but it's the end of the season that counts right?

Well 36 is the biggest number there but they've added a few numbers together. It's still not very big though. I went to the University of Numbers and there are much bigger numbers out there. They let me see some old numbers that were bigger than 1,000,000,000,000.

11 touches in the box by Jesus Navas!

this irks me a little, because all of those touches were brutal. never saw a player get in so many good positions but consistently not beat the 1st defender with cross

Suggestions for this move. For a hit..

    Hazard to Elia

one of Kane or Austin (probably Austin) to Costa.

    Already have Kun.

I'm considering the same move (Haz & Austin >> Elia & Costa). Also have Kun & Fab (and Kane).

Keep thinking about Haz + Austin points versus Costa + Elia total points. Favours the former I fear so holding off.

Costa could blank against City and Haz could get a brace at home.

Costa + Kun up top is appealing though.

Jan wc still intact. Great, eh? Problem is, since the start of Jan my team has finally started to fire - 78 last week, 78 this week so far (Baines to go.) I can't help but shake the feeling that wildcarding a winning formula will kill the upwards momentum I'm building - sure, I'm still without Kun but don't feel the need to secure his services atm.
Anyone else in a similar boat? Solution just to wait it out?

    2. Ruth_NZ
      • 9 Years

      Absolutely.

Many managers, me included, built their teams with a GW 24 wildcard in mind. My team was good for GW 21 (75 pts), GW 22 (67 with Baines and Wisdom to come) and is good for GW 23 as well. I don't want Aguero till GW 24, today's blank was no surprise and neither will a blank at Chelsea be.

There are players in my team I was unwilling to lose too soon - for example I wanted Downing this week and I want to keep Baines till GW 23. But they will go with my wildcard, around 50% of my squad will change. So the only reason to go early was (a) fear of Aguero scoring a lot of points in GW 22 and 23, which I discounted, and (b) fear of a runaway bandwagon lifting his price too far, which I decided to risk. He may be 0.4 higher when I bring him in than what he would have been but other players in my team who I am selling will have risen too. I will only be maybe 0.2 worse off. But a lot of points better off.

Yeah that is pretty similar to what I am playing around with. The problem with yours that I don't like so much is the lack of depth. I think it's better to run with a more budget friendly fourth mid while also having a decent fifth mid and having a more balanced back five. We will need it soon when there are cancellations from Cup finals, DGWs, etc.

      1. Klopp's Kids
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

Good point. I feel as though if that happens I'd be willing to use my transfers to compensate. I can't think of any cheaper midfielders who can do the job.

Downing? Great price but poor fixtures. Liverpool, Southampton and Utd look more defensive.
Chadli? Own Kane. Don't like the double Spurs with those fixtures.

Anyone else like Puncheon or Elia is too punty for me. What do you think?

I just got rid of Downing. Too bored having owned him for so long and I feel he has been marginalized somewhat lately for West Ham playing out wide and such things. Think he'll struggle for points in the tough fixtures they have to come. Chadli I would much prefer but I am not able to find the money for him. I am looking at Puncheon and Moses as my 4th and 5th at the moment. I may decide to ditch Terry for funds but I feel that not owning a Chelsea defender will just sting in the long run with pretty much everyone having a share with them so I am reluctant to do so.

          1. Klopp's Kids
            • 10 Years
            9 years, 5 months ago

I honestly think Chelsea will continue this amazing defensive run but looking at my defenders I can see a lot of cleansheets still. Leaving the option for a triple Chelsea attack appeals to me. Costa and Fabregas look to keep up their form and Hazard seems like a must.

Seems like a tough decision. Puncheon for the short-term seems fine but what's your plan B if that fails?

I got Chadli and Downing right now and they've been great but I'm not keen on either at the moment. Tough calls to make when making a WC 🙁

              • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Yeah I feel good about a lot of other "value" types in defense but I think that going with Terry, Soton, and three cheapies is the safest thing to do so I am leaning that way...but who knows what I'll be thinking as next GW comes closer.

My plan B would be downgrading AdM and upgrading Puncheon...pretty simple. Depending on how Moses kicks on I might not even need to bother and I can switch him in to the fourth mid spot and start him week in week out. He was nails before he got hurt and if he can stay healthy this go around I have high hopes for him. He is so central to everything positive Stoke do and I like him.

I think having Downing as a 5th mid is simply too expensive.
