The Community Round Up

The importance of luck proved a hot topic of discussion among our community members and writers this week. Lady luck will certainly need to be smiling down on the community if they are to successfully navigate this weekend’s blank fixtures and the double Gameweek 28. There was plenty of articles and posts to help Fantasy managers get through this tricky schedule, from picking the best budget defenders to captaincy decisions.

This week also saw the launch of the first live video Scoutcast of the season, which, as with last term’s episodes, also featured Granville’s cat. As ever, we also look at the best statistic tables compiled in our Members area and feature those lucky managers who refuse to give up their lead in our Community leagues.

The Community Articles

The community’s benches have been decimated in recent weeks through budget defenders falling out of favour with Premier League managers. Luckily Innsie was on hand to offer up some cut price differential alternatives to the likes of the West Brom defender Andre Wisdom and other victims of rotation.

There is no doubting Tottenham players potential to shine when they take on both QPR and Swansea in Gameweek 27 but, as Ludo reveals, even Spurs stars are unlikely to escape rotation.

There is no such desire to transfer out David Silva, who has emerged as a major success story in recent months. But can he maintain his strong form? SC not pearls before swine believes the Manchester City midfielder may struggle to keep scoring and assisting on such a regular basis.

How much does luck effect our teams, pondered Andy85wsm in this interesting look at events that are seemingly beyond our control. The community also chipped into the debate by recalling their luckiest and unluckiest Fantasy Premier League moments.

Among those hoping for fortune to favour them is Zasa, who is representing the community in the Scout Picks in Gameweek 27 after winning this week’s vote. Another is The Puntmaster, who is hoping his Gameweek 27 punts bring him more joy that his previous picks this month.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

As well as the role of luck, Andy85wsm has also been looking at another key ingredient to Fantasy football – having fun. He says that the entertainment factor of the impending double Gameweek cannot be underestimated, whether it brings good fortune or not.

Among players being considered for Gameweek 28’s double fixtures is Charlie Austin. While he faces Tottenham and Arsenal at home, Sanchez pointed out that the QPR striker looks a good choice having already scored against Chelsea, Manchester City and the Gunners this season. However, Ludo is not convinced and believes Austin may struggle against better opposition, particularly at home.

There were further Gameweek 28 contenders to mull over in Innsie’s look at the best players options to consider.

For Ruth NZ, there are more pressing matters at hand, namely Gameweek 27. He believes this weekend may offer an even greater opportunity to climb up the rankings.

This weekend also looks like a good opportunity to take a punt on a differential captain. During our discussion on armband punts, Demi favoured Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney for the armband, while Wiz had West Ham’s Diafra Sakho under his watchful eye.

Getting the right squad balance between this weekend’s blanks and the following Gameweek’s double fixtures for Spurs and QPR will be key. As our discussion on Gameweek 27 tactics revealed, there are some who are happy to go into the weekend’s matches with just 10 players to save their transfers for the double Gameweek.

Finally, this week saw the launch of our first live video Scoutcast of the season, where Mark and Granville were joined by myself and Granville’s cat. The three humans present took questions from the community and discussed the impending double Gameweek and blank fixtures. Look out for a hot topic on Monday night when we will post a link and details of how you can take part in the next live Scoutcast. Judging by your kind comments, it could prove to be a popular format in the weeks ahead.

The Members Tables

Teltzer has been looking at points per game potential of midfielders. Meanwhile, Zombie has been analysing goals per minute to showcase the most prolific strikers. Only those forwards who have scored six or more times are included.

Elsewhere, fortunesalwayshiding has placed Newcastle’s defence under the microscope. Given their budget pricing and kind Gameweek 27 fixture, when they host Aston Villa, this could provide some useful transfer options before deadline.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Greenwindmill continues to look unbeatable in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league. He has a 36 lead over second placed Mark and goes into Gameweek 27 with an overall rank of 131. Another unstoppable manager is 99th ranked Sarnab Das, who continues to top the Long and Winding Road league.

Back on the Horse is another high flyer refusing to give up a lead. He clings onto first place in the Puffinboy Memorial Cup league, which is named after one of this website’s first community members.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition, 311 teams survived after 56 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 54.

I've capped him 3 times and every time it's worked..

the third time though only worked because he didn't feature at all and Aguero was my vice

I would be scared to do it honestly..

I capped him GW23..I had a 10 (G-roo) and 17 (Caz) but wasn't going to cap them anyways, was only tempted possibly by Hazard

I capped him again GW25 when Kane and Aguero put up 11 each (and then Wally was my 3rd highest) but was never going to cap either of them anyways

I capped him a third time this past gameweek when Aguero pulled a 9 so it *technically* worked, Cazorla outscored Aguero by 1 point

so all in all I won't complain, as far as I'm concerned those were good absolute cap results

me too 🙁 it's what drew me to him this time around..

I would keep if he was assured of starts (and drop both Sanchez and Cazorla honestly), that's his only detraction right now..he's still making great runs and full of energy..just a bit rusty finishing..

I think Aguero has a good chance of scoring well regardless but I can't captain him against my team. Also, it's pretty unlikely that Liverpool will concede a penalty at Anfield.

I know I shouldn't but I find myself looking at Hutton and thinking those defensive returns have been drying up coupled with the fact he may not even play. Maybe I should just transfer him out this week with my FT. I would advise myself not to do this but........

I was thinking the same but it's more than likely I'll put in a defender who gets 2 points anyway and I'd rather have the extra transfer for the DGW so I'm happy to risk 0 points.

I rarely post guys tbh but mainly because i have a mate who i thrash out the best options with week in week out but we've got no where this week with this problem

Is it more important to bring in dgw players for free or replace doubts / non-starters for the blank.......in other words where is the higher points ceiling, the blank or the dgw?

A good score in the blank could prove very profitable if as suspected it's a low scoring week and as we know dgw's can prove very dissapointing. Dempsey and Rooney however off the top of my head have made dgw's highly profitable in years gone by.

What does the greater good of the fantasy community think ?

Rose, Eriksen, Kane and Austin are who i'm looking at, much like everyone else i imagine.

Not overly keen on Austin tbh but i find it tough to say no to a DGW striker who is on penalties and who is guaranteed 180 minutes. Will have to judge nearer the time which Spurs players are likely to start both games

I'd only be really confident about Walker and Vertonghen in defence for both. I guess Austin should be good for a goal.It is Spurs and Arsenal after all.

      I guess 1 game + 1 game = 2 games
      0 games + 2 games = 2 games
So a effectively a non starter this week and a double gameweek player equals someone with 2 fixtures. Therefore choose the player with the best fixtures

Wouldn't sell Sterling right now, he's still a decent option. I also think it's a bit late to bring in Cazorla.

I would sell Fab however, and after owning ADM for a long time this season and getting few returns I wouldn't get him. Try save a FT for next GW so you can get some DGW players in.

Wisdom most pressing. Swap for Dawson.

Last time I can ask, really need to make a decision now. 2 FT and 0.8

    A. Terry to Bertrand
    B. Albrighton to Cork

    Panti
    Naughton - Clyne - PvA - Haidara
    Sanchez - ADM - Puncheon
    Falcao - Kun

    Hamer -- Terry - Hazard - Kane - Albrighton

    Thanks guys

A Chelsea defender would still be handy over the coming weeks and I wouldn't want my only 2 heavy hitting defenders to be from the same team. Also Albrighton is pretty much deadwood whereas Cork is probably nailed on which will come in handy around GW33 when a few teams will have blank GWs. A playing 5th mid is vital in the latter stages of the season.

Ok so I'm still confused on captaincy as well. Compounded by the fact that I have...

    Aguero Silva

    &

    Giroud Wally Caz

Currently on Cisse. Am I just put off by all those players playing in two teams or is it a quality punt?

If you're going for a differential as captain you probably have one of the best options this week with Wally.

Personally, I'm playing safe with Aguero.

Wouldn't be surprising with Wenger but if he doesn't start him this weekend I feel Walcott's days at Arsenal are done. There's only so many times he can say he's easing him back into the first team.

Giroud and Walcott too much of a rotation risk to captain. Cazorla and Silva are in great form, but they don't get many chances - their points are reliant on converting the one good chance a game they're likely to get (whether that be from a penalty or open play).

I think you can narrow it down to Aguero vs Cisse. Safety vs Risk. Fixture-Proof vs Fixture.

Liverpool have lost whatever form/momentum some people were trying to lead us to believe they have..they just played 120 minutes and penalties yesterday AND lost whereas Aguero has had an extra 2 days of rest and they play the early game Sunday

Aguero picks himself honestly, THOUGH Silva could be a sneaky choice..they're a different team with Yaya there but it also means Silva is out wide (even with license to roam)

Has to be Kun if it's City. Penos and and he's Sergio Aguero, FFS. But what a result a Cisse captain haul would be, especially if City-Pool ends up being a cagey affair.

Defo plump for Aguero in your position. Walcott may just be out of favor. Right now we don't know. Could pay off big and seems a decent punt. But I'm not sure it's worth the risk.

The last thing for me is this is one week you would hate to lose a ton of ground. While a 10-15 pt gain would be dreamy from your captaincy, the opposite would be sickening in a potentially low scoring week to begin with. Aguero is calling.

Similar sitch Ram. Maybe we can help eachother...

But before I show you my team lets talk about yours... JT, Haz & Kane make up your bench this week by default... I would only use one transfer this week (saving a double for next GW for 2 Spurs?) but back to this week...your midfield don't need changing...but if you had funds to get Walcott in i think he will score high this week... in attack, Giroud may be rested...other options are WHU's Sakho or even dare i say Wayne Rooney! (again, if you can afford him)
And lastly like me, you have Clyne, Hutton (injury doubt but i would still keep him & PvA (rotation risk), only differential is Coloccini in defence (for my P.Jones - who i want out as well as my Wisdom!!!)

so basically i've not made this any clearer for you... ok if you feel brave, ADM/Caz for Walcott OR GRU for Rooney (if affordable)

anyway, hope i've helped check my yeam below:

      2FT & £2.6m ITB...currently sitting on:

      Panti / Krul
      P.Jones / Clyne / Hutton / PvA / Wisdom
      Haz / Caz / Alexis / Silva / Walters
      Kun / Kane / JD

      ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
