Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 29

With Swansea and Liverpool yet to play out the Gameweek tomorrow evening, we take a look at the new injury worries caused by the weekend’s nine fixtures.

Chelsea
Willian was replaced by Juan Cuadrado with just eight minutes remaining of today’s home draw with Southampton after picking up an injury, according to match reports.

Crystal Palace
Alan Pardew is sweating over the availability of a couple of key first-team players after Jason Puncheon (hamstring) and Wilfried Zaha (hip) were both forced off during the weekend win over QPR.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Kevin Mirallas missed today’s win over Newcastle with a knock sustained in Thursday’s Europa League victory over Dinamo Kiev. The Belgian is expected to recover in time for this week’s return trip to the Ukraine, though, after failing a late fitness test earlier today.

QPR
Rio Ferdinand missed the trip to Selhurst Park due to illness, the club’s official website has confirmed. The R’s right-back Darnell Furlong was replaced by Clint Hill at the break in Saturday’s defeat at Palace after sustaining a calf complaint, according to manager Chris Ramsey:

”Darnell came off and the only reason he did so was because his calf stiffened up and it wouldn’t have been fair to keep him on. He didn’t come off because they scored two goals.”

Southampton
Eljero Elia missed today’s trip to the Bridge with a twisted ankle, according to the local press.

Stoke
Jonathan Walters was forced off on 67 minutes with a head injury following a collision with Craig Dawson in the Potters’ 1-0 loss at West Brom. Erik Pieters was withdrawn at the break, whilst match reports indicate that Victor Moses was replaced on 57 minutes due to injury. After the match, Mark Hughes gave an update on the former and admitted he has concerns over Walters’ availability:

”Erik should be ok next weekend, but Jon is our main concern at the moment. He looks as though he has a nasty bang on his cheekbone which may well be a fracture and that will have to be checked on Monday. We hope it isn’t but it’s looking as though it could be a serious one that will keep him out for a few games.”

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher was subbed off injured on 82 minutes after sustaining what appeared to be a thigh problem during the Black Cats’ 4-0 home hammering by Villa.

West Brom
Tony Pulis faces an anxious wait on Ben Foster’s fitness after the keeper was forced off with a knee injury during the Baggies’ win over Stoke, whilst match-winner Brown Ideye was also withdrawn late on with a similar complaint.

After the match, Pulis confirmed Foster is set for scans after sustaining the injury in a challenge with the Potters’ Peter Crouch:

“We will have to get him checked. He felt his left knee go from under him. We need him fit.”

West Ham
The Hammers keeper Adrian played from start to finish in the 3-0 loss at Arsenal despite dislocating his finger in the warm-up. Assistant boss Neil McDonald revealed post-match:

”He’s been a brave lad today because he could easily have pulled out. And he’s made some great saves. He has his finger strapped up to play and I’m hoping that if he played today he should alright for next week. He did it in the warm-up but he wanted to carry on. I haven’t ever dislocated my finger so I don’t know how much pain he was in but it’s obviously a big thing for a goalkeeper.”

Missed a trick? Does anyone else feel like me that there was a real opportunity to make up ground this week? Despite the low scoring for big hitters, captain voice was key. I had the gut feeling and some logic that GIroud was the right choice, but followed the majority to give the armband to Aguero. A lesson learnt - these opportunities do not come often, more courage next time!

Pure hindsight. The majority of captain picks failed this week, saying who you should have captained after its over is pointless.

You are right of course an element of hindsight, but also a lesson in choosing form over reputation next time

I was on Giroud all week and changed to Aguero at 10.30am i had that gut feeling too but was hard not to follow Aguero captain. Unlucky!! Gutting!!

Just about fell into that boat myself. Needed a comment from Jonty and a look at West Hams shattered defence to pull me over the line and captain Giroud. I almost fecked it up too because for a while there I thought City were playing West Ham. Luckily I figured out my mistake just before I went to bed.

Well played this week especially the Eriksen benching for double WBA.

Bellerin was benched anyway so I'll still get Eriksen off the bench. Meh, could have done with an Arsenal clean sheet. Foster getting injured put a dampener on my triple WBA defence too.

We have Giroud and would assume he would score goals, but no one would expect him to outscore one of the best players in the league.

Using hindsight is a wonderful thing.

    Morning dzzz,

    What a horrible gw:/

Fortrose who have a WC left...when you planning to play it and your thinking behind it?

To prepare for the dgw (assuming in gw34) or to clean up afterwards..

Most would already have a decent chunk of dgw players and the dgw teams seem to have good fixtures after the dgw so yeah don't see that much benefit of the WC :/

Any advice with 1 FT & 0.2m itb?

    Panti
    Clyne / Ivan / Pva
    Haz / Sanchez / Erik / SIlva
    Kane / Kun / Austin
    (Krul / Walters / Bruce / Wasi)

Boring but Clyne to Bertrand or even Toby would allow you to sort that defence out coz it's woeful

    Current team:

    Panti (Mannone)
Bertie - Clyne - Terry (Hutton - vAa)
Punch - Cazorla - Sanchez - Hazard (Boyd)
    Kane - Giroud - Aguero

    2FT
    0.1 itb.

    * Prob time to change Sanchez out? Sanchez -> Silva?
    * Transfer out Sanchez + Cazorla -> Silva + Sterling (1.4 itb after)
    * Transfer out Sanchez + Cazorla -> Silva + Fab (0.6 itb after)

Well courtious is still a slight rotation risk! He will hwant to give Czech the odd game to keep him in the loop. Forster I'd say, ddg and mignolet too

Yeah, the only reason I was ruling out Courtois (or Cech I suppose! :)) was because I'll have three Chelsea already for the double gameweek.

Think it's either Forster or Mignolet.

    Forster
    Clyne JT Wollschied
    Hazard Eriksen Sanchez Silva
    Kun Kane Gru

    4.0 Naughton Sameobi Cawson

    1FT & 0.1M

    A) Eriksen out for Mane
    B) Wolly out for Bellerin
    C) Kun out for Costa
    D) Kun out for Rooney
    E) Save FT

I have Bellerin Sanchez and Giroud in my team and I have decided come GW 33 im shipping out Bellerin and Sanchez never to return!!
My thinking is a) they don't have a game that week, b) GW34 looks tempting for an additional chelsea player. So my question is who do I bring in for these 2?
They cost 15.7 ATM, shall I go for an extra chelsea defender or midfielder (I have ivan and hazard). Looking at liverpool's final fixtures I like the idea of the other guy playing for them.

    A) terry and sterling
    B) Moreno and oscar/fab
    C) something else!

Time to play my wild card? I'm 45 points behind in my mini league and the guy in first place has pretty much matched my team this week so I need some differentials:

    Old team

    Krul, Pants
    Apzi, Clyne, Bellerin, Naughton, Baird
    Hazard, Silva, Eriksen, Puncheon, Mane
    Augero, Austin, Kane

    New Team

    Ospina, Pants
    Apzi, Alderweild, Bellerin, Naughton, Dawson
    Hazard, Silva, Ramsey, Phillips, Mane
    Augero, Kane, Costa

So my differentials are Costa, Ramsey, Mane, Phillips and most of defence. Thoughts?

Not sure these differentials are going to help you much can you find the extra cash for Ozil?

I'd wait till DGW to play your WC just wait on Punch injury news or use your transfer to remove if injured

Waste of a WC if you ask me

    C) switch for Moreno and Oscar/fab

But bellerin will be out after gw33 and Sanchez is nowhere near as creative on the wing for the money he is!

This is really hypocritical given I have Mane and may well cap him but it is funny how many seem to be rushing to get him in when Saints have been so goal shy and they play Burnley who just shut out Aguero and Co.

Thoughts on the team for next GW?

    Panti (Krul)
    Bertrand Clyne Kos (PvA, Dawson)
    Hazard Sanchez Silva Eriksen Cazorla
    Kun Kane (Cisse)

    1FT, 0.6ITB.

I'm thinking Aguero to Costa and PvA to Azpi or Terry?

I see no reason why to use a transfer, never mind take a hit. You have 3 great defenders for this week and Aguero is a proven FPL asset and has a good fixture. Hold tight.

Very similar team to me, consider pva to haidara, Newcastle have great fixtures for the rest of the season!

I'm also considering Sanchez out for sterling and Ivan in! Might bring Ramsay in for sterling in 5/6 games!

Thank you Jonny Sutt. Pva to haidara sound good maybe after W34 ?. i might have Ivan W34. planning to keep Sanchez for DGW. Sterling depend on when they have the DGW.

If people triple up on Chelsea players, are you going for 2 defenders or 2 attackers? Defenders seem like a safer option!

Not when Chelsea have Arsenal away I'm going Ivan Hazard Costa spread the risk

Who do you drop? Aguero, Kane or giroud? I think they are season keepers! Perhaps Oscar or fab brought in? Who will be a better bet?

Dunno, I'm thinking attackers to spread the risk but defenders because Chelsea are one of few good defences in the league and also I don't want costa so it would have to be oscar or fab? Are they better options than terry?

2 defs. The only attacker I'd consider is Costa

Is it worth taking a hit this week to do:
    Vertonghen --> max 5.6 defender
    Austin --> Giroud

I'd love Giroud for next round vs Newcastle but I can't afford him without downgrading someone, Vert's the obvious candidate.

    Help appreciated.

Rather not for a hit especially as Spurs have good fixture but seeing as Creswell is 5.6 I'd go for it

Hmm... tough decisions. Should I just save FT for this week? Fingers crossed Austin scores a double and Giroud gets subbed off early haha
