Monitor – Alexis Sanchez

With a single goal in his last six league appearances, Alexis Sanchez’s debut season in the Premier League seems in danger of grinding to a halt. After serving up 12 strikes and seven assists in the opening 21 Gameweeks, the Chilean’s displays made him a must-have for Fantasy managers but, in spite of Arsenal’s late surge up the table, his recent output has been minimal.

There’s no disputing the fact that Sanchez’ downturn has coincided with the return to action of Mesut Ozil. The German has started each of the last seven Gameweeks and managed two goals and five assists over that period, whilst Olivier Giroud has developed a source of consistency which has harvested six strikes and a trio of assists in his previous eight outings.

Despite his price of 11.4 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Sanchez is still the third most popular midfielder – only Eden Hazard and Raheem Sterling currently sit in more sides. With some of his 30% ownership starting to scour the market for alternatives, we delve into the data to asses his displays over the two time frames in order to ascertain just what has gone wrong.

True but I have to evaluate if dumping is worth the FT when he's about to face Newcastle. I've concluded not.

Just shows the premier leagues best teams are very poor compared to the other leagues.no team left in the last 8 of Europe's elite is terrible.could you imagine Barcelona being beaten by Burnley.

2 transfers are essentially -8 which I am expecting to recover in 2 weeks. I rather give him 3 weeks to recover the points for me.

Ofcourse you can argue that Aguero will outscore Benteke this week and prove my theory invalid, but I personally rather bet on the man in form than the man out of form.

    Repost from yesterday:

    Good Evening all!

    Panti - Hamer
    Lescott - Terry - Cresswell - PVA - Bertrand
    Hazard - Silva - Cazorla - Eriksen - Moses
    Aguero - Kane - Austin

    2 FT

Chasing a 90 point lead. Which of the two alternatives do you reckon is the best:

    A) Austin > Giroud, Eriksen > Mané
    B) Moses > Mané (Play 3-5-2 Austin benched)

    Rival has Austin & Eriksen

    Cheers! 🙂

Don't dump Austin one week before a confirmed DGW and don't drop Eriksen on the week he plays Leicester at home.

B could conceivably work but you may regret it. Everton's record defensively is far from impressive, as evidenced by their league position. This isn't the Everton of old.

Whoever does the transfer dealings has let him down though. Heartless brats like Nasri and Yaya don't help either. His history as a manager is very good. Criticism of his formation in big games was maybe a bit harsh, attack is his philosophy. Why change that when the only defensive mid you have is an awful player like Fernando?

City need winners in the team, not at manager. Simeone has hard-working committed players at Atleti. With the lack of them at City I'm not sure he would do much better.

They're not amazingly skilled players. They work hard which plays to Simeone's style as a manager. The City players are skilled but don't work hard. It's not the same.

No manager can make Nasri work hard. Mourinho sells players who don't work hard. You can't drastically change a player's mentality.

Why should Pellegrini? He persists with them.

Who wanted Bony? You don't think that was him?

Demichelis? Navas? Fernando? Mangala? Jovetic? All Pellegrini signings.

He's way off the pace tactically as well as his devotion to 4-2-2-2 shows.

Demi & Navas maybe, Fernando, Magala, Fernandinho no. Bony, Jovetic I'm not sure. He definitely wouldn't have wanted to loose Negredo. Even Demi & Navas he probably only suggested. He didn't and does not have the final say on Man City's transfer dealings.

Neither do many managers nowadays. But clubs mostly try to accommodate what their managers want and that's clearly the case with City. All of those were players he wanted.

Is Sanchez falling tonight, you think? Gotta decide whether to sell or not, if so

Good article Paul. I like the average position analysis. Further supports my analysis in the article I wrote earlier this month 🙂

So glad I shipped Sanchez when I did...not when to get rid of Aguero is the question.

I'd go for him too. Good fixtures, playing in the no. 10 position and occasionally genuine striker.

agree....and previously pelle played badly enough to lose his place long term....im tempted by mane (C)....burnley wont roll over tho....and saints recent scoring record not great....hard game to call imo

Mané plays as a no 10 when Pelle's on the pitch (in behind him) and still does well so that should influence your decision.

Anyone got a link explaining or could briefly explain to me now the DGWs and blank GWs situation? Been out of the game for about a week and it's all kind of confusing right now, I want to fully understand it before doing my transfers this week. Who blanks in GW 33 (I think things aren't official yet, but most people expect Liverpool and Arsenal blank as well?) and who has a double game week? Why don't Villa and QPR have their DGW in 34 and instead they have it in 31? Thanks a lot in advance.

Using my 2FT this week for

    PVA > Toby
    Cazorla > Mane

Sound moves? My team is linked if you want to check.

If the Arsenal DGW isn't on GW 31, which move would you prefer:

    A) PVA to Naughton (don't think a Villa defender will score more points in the next 2 GW's and if I buy Naughton now I don't have to play Moreno against Man U)

    B) Sanchez to Ozil (I will get Giroud/Costa in for Austin after the DGW, so nice way to clear up some cash already)

    C) Austin to Benteke (he's playing better and also has a DGW ahead)

    D) Keep the FT (not any urgent transfers needed for the DGW so far)

    Myhill
    Terry Kos Clyne Rose
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen
    Aguero Giroud Kane
    Foster - Boyd, Naughton, Puncheon
    Have 2FT and .6mil itb.

Not sure where to use a transfer. Would appreciate some advice!

    What to do with Cazorla?
    Have Sanchez 2 fts

Also I'm not sold on keeping Austin for the dgw, I'd rather have benteke , qpr are just terrible

Get Austin and Benteke? Who are your other strikers? Despite QPR being awful, look at Austin's history, he's been relatively consistent throughout the entire season, he's bound to score at least one goal between GW30 + DGW31

I'm personally keeping sanchez as whenever I watch him play, his class hasn't just disappeared.

Kinda silly imo not to have either Austin or Benteke, however, they're the only players I would consider having from both teams, depends on who your other strikers are.
