Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 32

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries now, with Chelsea’s concerns up front increasing after Loic Remy picked up a muscle problem in training yesterday.

Aston Villa
The injury worries continued in defence for Tim Sherwood after Ciaran Clark was forced off early on in the 1-0 win over Spurs. Sherwood is also sweating over the fitness of Gabby Agbonlahor up front, after the forward was also replaced at White Hart Lane. After the match, the Villa manager admitted the pair are likely to miss next weekend’s semi-final with Liverpool:

“Ciaran has come off with a knee ligament injury. He’s not had it before. It’s the first time this season we’ve had to name an unchanged team so it’s something we’re getting used to. Gabby’s tweaked his hamstring. It looks like (they will miss Sunday). It’s a real shame as it’s a massive day out.”

Chelsea
Loic Remy missed today’s trip to QPR after sustaining a muscle injury in training yesterday, Jose Mourinho has confirmed:

“Remy got a kick in training and the muscle is sore. We never cry or complain, we just trust the people on the pitch”

After the 1-0 win, the Blues boss was optimistic that the Frenchman will be back in time for next week’s home clash with United:

“Remy has a small injury. I think he should be available for the next game.”

Crystal Palace
Left-back Pape Souare was forced off early in the 4-1 win over Sunderland due to injury.

Everton
Leon Osman is set to be assessed after sustaining a groin injury during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw at Swansea yesterday lunchtime.

Manchester City
Reports suggest Vincent Kompany was withdrawn at half-time due to a thigh complaint in City’s loss at Old Trafford.

Manchester United
Michael Carrick was forced off towards the end of this afternoon’s derby win over City, with his withdrawal leaving the hosts with just ten men. Post-match, Louis van Gaal revealed:

“At the end, Michael Carrick needed to be changed but I could not substitute him. He was very wise to step out of the game with my permission. I hope he is not injured.”

QPR
Armand Traore was initially named amongst the subs today but withdrew from the squad after sustaining a knock during the pre-match warm-up.

Stoke
Victor Moses and Marc Wilson were both replaced during the Potters’ weekend draw at West Ham, with Mark Hughes confirming post-match:

“It looks like Victor has pulled his hamstring. It looks like it is in a strange position as it seems to be right behind his knee, which isn’t the normal position you usually get hamstring injuries. We will get it checked, it may be something that isn’t to do with the hamstring so it could be that we get good news. If it is a hamstring, then it could be that we lose him for a few weeks…Marc got a bang right on his hip, fair play to him he tried to go out for the second half and see if he could make it work. Sadly he couldn’t loosen it off and had to be forced off unfortunately.”

Swansea
Bafetimbi Gomis lasted just 17 minutes of Saturday’s early kick-off against Everton before limping off with a hamstring problem, Garry Monk has confirmed:

“Bafe felt a tightening of his hamstring. He will have a scan. Hopefully it’s not too serious because we don’t want to lose his quality, and we’re already quite thin on the ground.”

Fellow forward Nelson Oliveira missed out with a twisted ankle sustained in training.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce’s options up front could be somewhat limited heading into the weekend trip to City after both Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia picked up injuries in the weekend draw with Stoke. Post-match, the Hammers boss confirmed:

“Enner was never going to be able to play the full 90 minutes, but he got a kick as well and we’re hoping it won’t be enough to keep him out for next week, because Diafra will definitely be missing. If it’s a thigh strain, depending on what grade it is, it could two weeks or it could be him missing the rest of this season, but we will wait and see. That leaves us very short on the front line with Andy being out, and means goals will be fewer and farther between than they used to be, so if we don’t get that defensive side right then the last six games are going to be tough for us.”

Just found out about Remy. All those who transferred him in already in preparation for the double gameweek must be fuming!

Always a decision that should have been left as late as possible, where possible (i.e. if you had only one free transfer). But that's easy to say now.

The QPR game was a major factor in bringing him in

I wasn't one of those people but I can fully understand why they got him in. In a lot of ways they were justified in getting him as Drogba proved he isn't good enough and QPR was a prime fixture. The injury happened on Saturday so thats just unlucky. Whether or not Costa will return to feature in the DGW is still unknown so nothing has changed in that department.

The injury was really unlucky. but I meant wait until this week to hear more about Costa.

The QPR game is something I hadn't really considered, but it is only one game. You don't just buy players for a single game, do you?

Well you do I suppose. GW33 was also a big draw card as he had a fixture, add in Austin's tough Chelsea encounter and you have a recipe for an obvious transfer.

I agree that there is probably a lack of thought and information regarding the DGW which is still a while away. However that is the risk that Remy owners were prepared to take. Unfortunately for them the full proof short term deal didn't work out as well as expected.

I know, I feel a bit bad for writing this now. I was also considering the Remy move because of the QPR game, but you could say I chickened out, because I was worried Costa might be back in the frame in a couple of weeks and I'd end up using extra transfers getting rid of Remy.

Nobody could have envisaged that injury. Most annoying thing that can happen in FPL!

I have to say I am usually boring though, and never do a transfer based on a single game fixture. Not even a double gameweek; I'll only get three players in from one team if they are good and have decent fixtures elsewhere. Boring.

There was no way people could've anticipated an injury for him. Transferring in Fabregas when he was on 9 yellows could've been called a risk, but not Remy.

Couldn't anticipate that injury, no. fair enough. but isn't there a risk that costa could be back for the double? At leats one game of it? If people were transferring him in for that, then they should have left it til this week (if possible)

Doesn't matter when you got him in, he got injured on Saturday the day after the press conference. Hardly any media knew about it until around 2 hours before the game.

Thoughts on this lot for a slightly different WC team?

    Myhill
    Baines, Terry*, Aldy
    Hazard*, Silva, Fabregas*, Bolasie
    Aguero, Bony, Murray

    Ospina, Henderson*, Moreno*, PVA*

    * DGWers

      Why not WC next gw?
Bony not worth it IMO, double palace is a punt, would try to get at least 1 Leicester in there (schmeichel or vardy are your best bets)

I'm torn between this week and next. My current team isn't in great shape so would need 1-2 hits to get 11 out this week. And my WC teams would be almost identical this week compared to next. What's your thinking on saving for next week?

Bony is a risk for sure, but Dzeko has looked rubbish and City do have great fixtures (WHU, AVL tot, QPR in their next 4), so if Bony starts (I guess this is the big risk) then he should do well.

Schmeical in for Myhill might not be a bad move actually.

No WC, 1 FT and need to make two transfers to field XI for GW33.

So double on Leic for the safe planning strategy. Unfashionable but scoring a plenty.
Already have 3 Chelsea and would look to bring in 1-2 Liverpool players on an FT/hi

Buy into the Palace goal machine, which has a massive spread of points from a weekly basis but excellent potential.

Split, one Leic + one Palace.

    WC Draft.

    Davis
    Terry - Clyne - Skrtel - Schlupp - Duff
    Silva - Hazard - Coutinho - Sanchez - Bentaleb
    Sturridge - Remy - Vardy

Exactly £2.0 left. Who is missing and who shouldn't be there?

Well I would rather have Aguero instead of Vardy.

Can bring in Aguero for Sturridge after the double, but could be one week too late.

I'd like to have Sanchez for his double but if I sell I'll won't bring him back. Would need to go the Ozil/Ramsey route.

            Terry Clyne Moreno Morgan PvA
            Silva Haz Fab Hendo

My lack of confidence in Sturridge is a result of a combination of fitness, confidence and form. If his price point prevents you from other prime acquisitions then its an unnecessary barrier as well.

For thos wc'ing in GW 34 I think almost as important as picking the DGW players - who will be pretty template across the board - is picking the single GW players to bring ove.- Personally I'd at least like to keep

Arsenal mid - to save FT
    Silva
    Aguero.
    Alderweireld
    Pantilimon

then picking the right two cheap budget defenders for the run-in.
What are your plans for the DGW34 single GW players?

    So....

    - Tottenham poor form
    - Tottenham out of top 4 contention
    - so many other's in form and still fighting for something
    - lots of teams with DGWs

Is Harry Kane no longer essential?

Who's transferring him out in favour of DGW or more in form strikers? now or later?

    1. Notorious

If he blanks for third time in a row I think many will sell him for a DGW player. It depends on his replacement, though. I personally don't think that Hull/Leicester forward or Remy are worth it.

Some people were suggesting last week that Spurs are still motivated because of europa and Kane's potential golden boot. Well I think we can put an end to that theory, their season is properly over and they will do well to be at 80% for the remaining games.

All up I would suggest that Kane is no longer essential. In saying that though, it would still be a brave call to sell him due to his price point.

The way players have been getting injured, I wouldn't be surprised if any DGWers get injured today or in the FA Cup for Pool. For non WC owners, is it wise to leave the transfers as late as possible for Pool and any other DGW players we want to bring in?

Am I alone in thinking that out of all the double teams Chelsea have the worse potential?

Can see Mourhino grinding wins out against United and Arsenal and doing what he did yesterday.

If Liverpool win tonight their top 4 chase is back on and Leicester are in fightback modes are they the better draws?

Well I have Ivanovic so it's not a case of Schlup being better, the point is (because you missed it) that Remy, Fabregas and all may not plunder the goals and points that is required.

I have Ivanovic and Hazard, struggling to see another option and think Liverpool and Leicester may offer better returns in their games.

Everyone will keep Hazard so its a matter of what other 2 Chelsea players you have. I think there is a lot of merit in doubling up in defence. They are ideal when Chelsea look to grind out results.
