Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 33

We roll out our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries, with City’s playmaker issuing positive news after being stretchered off during today’s win over West Ham.

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker is an early injury for the Gunners clash with Chelsea next Sunday after limping off on 63 minutes during the semi-final win over Reading. Arsene Wenger confirmed post-match:

“It’s an ankle injury. He limped badly so it doesn’t look too good really.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker was replaced early on during the midlanders’ cup win over Liverpool today. After the match, Tim Sherwood confirmed he expects the defender to be ruled out for the rest of the campaign:

“We’ve not too big a squad and we’ve lost Nathan Baker today, Ciaran Clark last week, so we’ve got two fit centre backs. They did really well today, Jores Okore and Ron Vlaar. They’re the only two we’re going with between now an the end of the season, so we’re not blessed in defensive areas. It looks like Nathan’s season is over. It’s a really bad knee injury, and we know how long that normally takes.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rolled out an update on Willian, after the winger was only fit enough to make the bench against United.

”Willian coming on was a bonus I wanted to give him, he’s been in bed for two days and today he came straight from his house, making himself available to give us some help, he was fantastic.”

Everton
James McCarthy is set to be assessed after sustaining an ankle knock in Saturday’s home win over Burnley.

Leicester
David Nugent was withdrawn from the starting XI as a precaution after picking up a calf problem during the warm-up prior to the Foxes win over Swansea.

Man City
David Silva was stretchered off during City’s win over West Ham after being elbowed by Cheick Kouyate. Refusing to blame the Senegal international. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Silva – who needed several minutes’ treatment before leaving the field – was set for hospital scans:

“At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek. I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player, the ref decided it was unintentional and I also think that.”

An hour later, though, Silva allayed fears of any injury by confirming he was given the all-clear:

“Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I’m already home.”

Post-match reports suggest Samir Nasri has sustained a leg problem after replacing Silva with quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock.

Southampton
Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off during the Saints loss at Stoke yesterday afternoon. The Belgian needed oxygen after sustaining a shoulder injury, with Ronald Koeman optimistic on his prospects post-match:

“Toby looks OK now. It’s his shoulder and we maybe have to wait until the scan or something else to know exactly what happened. It’s his shoulder but he’s back on his place and will be good I think.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that he is having to manage Peter Crouch’s pitch time over the run-in as a result of an ongoing groin problem. The big striker has failed to start the last three and was afforded just 15 minutes against Southampton yesterday, with his manager conceding:

“Crouchy is struggling with a groin problem at the moment and the likelihood is that he is going to need an operation once the season ends. At the moment he is probably only fit enough for 25 to 30 minutes at the end of games so we are having to be careful with how we utilise him.”

West Brom
Craig Dawson was replaced on 71 minutes during the Baggies win at Palace after picking up a knee injury, according to match reports.

I think he's a good bet too. Should start with Zouma featuring in midfield.

I can see him playing there again perhaps once in the DGW. Possibly against Arsenal

Nope, he played there specifically cause of Fellaini. Arsenal are a team that plays the ball on the ground and Ramires will be deployed in that position instead

fg asked for my thoughts yesterday on the pool mids. everyone still asking same questions so I'll rp here

well I still think there is feck all between them. hendo is cheap as chips, a lot of set pieces and a much improved playmaker these days. his price makes him a keeper I reckon.
sterling is back in good form, giving defenders nightmares again. still lacks final product but constantly making chances for himself and others.
coutinho, he can have my babies. love him. have him just behind sterling because of sterlo's more explosive potential and high ownership. its a lottery which will do better on any given gameweek. I'll go hendo and sterling for 34 then probably lose sterlo after 35 as I want two arsey mids

in short I watch em every week and its a lottery in terms of fpl. so hendo's price and sterling/coutinho's ownership should factor. or just go with your gut. all good picks.

ryan has a good point about hendo without lucas last page. that should be short term though

I think I'll be going with Sterling and Coutinho. Ryan's point steers me away for Henderson, and I'm only concerned about the short term DGW with my Liverpool players.

Weird timing to have a Wildcard & DGW with two of the expensive & explosive materials for the DGW are out injured. With Remy,Hazard,Ivanovic & Skertel in the team & 2FT ,plan was to save this GW and Wildcard in GW35.

But Remy & Silva injury have added to my indecision.
    🙁

Thoughts on the current WC draft please? 🙂

    Schmeichel(Ospina)
    Terry Moreno Schlupp (PVA, Yoshida)
    Hazard Sterling Coutinho Silva (Birdcutt)
    Aguero Remy Vardy

    2.3m in the bank.

Not quite sure on Remy, but he could easily become Giroud/Rooney(Roo only if I downgrade Ospina though)

    Cheers

Busy with life 🙄 Have been really busy the last few months, would've liked to have had more time for FPL, but only just managed to squeeze in my transfers before the deadline each week, sometimes not at all. Got a little more time on my hands now though, so hopefully I'll be able to fight back to the top spot in my ML. 🙂 OR's gone down the drain.

How's it going? Part of team NZ again in the Cricket world cup? Missed out on that.

Gone from from 210k to 70k in 3 weeks despite losing 16 points on transfers. At this rate could very well end up with a decent rank despite the ultra casual season

Yeah he's a n option, but is also that bit more expensive which makes things tricky elsewhere

Think It won't be before Friday,I will make any move.
Lot of permutations & combinations involved.Depends upon answers of following question. I hope Mou & Manuel are clearer with their info in the presser this week.

    1) Remy FIT or UNFIT?
    2)Costa FIT or UNFIT?
    3)Silva FIT or UNFIT?

Not quite the first time it's been asked though.

FWIW I'll go for Sterling and Henderson.

    RMWCT please:

    Schmeichel
    Ivanovic Terry Skrtel
    Hazard Sterling Henderson Sanchez
    Agüero Giroud Vardy

    Myhill McShane PvA Cork

This would give me 8 DGW players (plus McShane and Cambiasso on the bench) and the non-DGW would be Alexis, Giroud and Kun.

Does this make sense to you?

Or seeing that I have double Chelsea defense should I bench Giroud and Sanchez and play McShane and Cambiasso instead to get 10 DGW on the pitch?

Cork should be Cambiasso on the bench, sorry.

Always more fun having players play twice with more chance of hitting that elusive 100+pts, doesn't always work out that way but that's what I'd do.

There is also the added complexity of playing Giroud and Sanchez against Terry and Ivanovic. Therefore it would tempt me to bench them.

I'm sure many will think that's madness however.

Would you play Bertrand at home to Spurs or Kane? Only one slot available.

Very tough one. But when in doubt play the attacking player.

Not a pool fan but think Rodgers doesnt rate GJ. So that pretty much leaved him to play Lovren.

I got him to chase mini league leader. A put but no more than 2 Chelsea defender with 2 away games.
