Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 33

We roll out our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries, with City’s playmaker issuing positive news after being stretchered off during today’s win over West Ham.

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker is an early injury for the Gunners clash with Chelsea next Sunday after limping off on 63 minutes during the semi-final win over Reading. Arsene Wenger confirmed post-match:

“It’s an ankle injury. He limped badly so it doesn’t look too good really.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker was replaced early on during the midlanders’ cup win over Liverpool today. After the match, Tim Sherwood confirmed he expects the defender to be ruled out for the rest of the campaign:

“We’ve not too big a squad and we’ve lost Nathan Baker today, Ciaran Clark last week, so we’ve got two fit centre backs. They did really well today, Jores Okore and Ron Vlaar. They’re the only two we’re going with between now an the end of the season, so we’re not blessed in defensive areas. It looks like Nathan’s season is over. It’s a really bad knee injury, and we know how long that normally takes.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rolled out an update on Willian, after the winger was only fit enough to make the bench against United.

”Willian coming on was a bonus I wanted to give him, he’s been in bed for two days and today he came straight from his house, making himself available to give us some help, he was fantastic.”

Everton
James McCarthy is set to be assessed after sustaining an ankle knock in Saturday’s home win over Burnley.

Leicester
David Nugent was withdrawn from the starting XI as a precaution after picking up a calf problem during the warm-up prior to the Foxes win over Swansea.

Man City
David Silva was stretchered off during City’s win over West Ham after being elbowed by Cheick Kouyate. Refusing to blame the Senegal international. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Silva – who needed several minutes’ treatment before leaving the field – was set for hospital scans:

“At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek. I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player, the ref decided it was unintentional and I also think that.”

An hour later, though, Silva allayed fears of any injury by confirming he was given the all-clear:

“Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I’m already home.”

Post-match reports suggest Samir Nasri has sustained a leg problem after replacing Silva with quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock.

Southampton
Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off during the Saints loss at Stoke yesterday afternoon. The Belgian needed oxygen after sustaining a shoulder injury, with Ronald Koeman optimistic on his prospects post-match:

“Toby looks OK now. It’s his shoulder and we maybe have to wait until the scan or something else to know exactly what happened. It’s his shoulder but he’s back on his place and will be good I think.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that he is having to manage Peter Crouch’s pitch time over the run-in as a result of an ongoing groin problem. The big striker has failed to start the last three and was afforded just 15 minutes against Southampton yesterday, with his manager conceding:

“Crouchy is struggling with a groin problem at the moment and the likelihood is that he is going to need an operation once the season ends. At the moment he is probably only fit enough for 25 to 30 minutes at the end of games so we are having to be careful with how we utilise him.”

West Brom
Craig Dawson was replaced on 71 minutes during the Baggies win at Palace after picking up a knee injury, according to match reports.

Looks like Okore is nailed for the remainder.

Is he more of a threat than Vlaar?

Still think Sterling is the best (and most explosive) choice. Brom and Hull are both slow at the back.

Just looking at my GW history the decline of my season is easy to pinpoint

I went into GW20 with an OR of 34,114. 5 straight red arrows later I was 167,608

    A) Kane

    B) Ageuro

    C) Vardy

    D) Silva

    E) Hazard, Fabregas, Henderson (not real options)

Thoughts on leaving millions in the bank on WC?

Thinking about getting both Cambiasso and Vardy for DGW, and upgrade one to an Arsenal player the following week.

Undecided on Kane, so I might leave him on the bench for DGW and reassess.

I would keep some spare cash if you have Vardy. Would mean you can upgrade to a more reliable striker after the DGW.

        Vardy has NEW GW35

I think as long as you have an Arsenal attacker of some sort for GW35 you can keep Vardy for that, then look at getting Giroud

          9 years, 2 months ago

Thinking about leaving cash for Cambiasso -> Ramsey/Özil for GW35.
Will be tough to bench Kane another week and play 3-5-2 though.

Pick the players you think will score the most. If that leaves millions in the bank so be it. I have the same problem but have gotten my head round it.

Those without wildcards how far are you looking ahead?

If I go for my current plan for next week the only way I can get Ramsey, Sanchez, Giroud for just a -4 over the following 3 weeks is to get rid of Hazard.

If I want to keep Hazard things get a bit trickier and we start looking at multiple hits to remove players like Ivanovic, Clyne, Fabregas, Silva.

Have you looked that far ahead or just playing it by ear?

        1. Guidinho
          • 13 Years
          9 years, 2 months ago

No one should need any hits to get in 3 Arsnal as they have transfers in 35, 36, 37.

The issue will be who to captain

your assuming there are no other pressing matters and the ones you are removing are injured or not performing well enough to keep......... lots can happen in a week let alone 3

              • 13 Years
              9 years, 2 months ago

You can address pressing issues by buying Arsenal players. Plus most people already have Sanchez/Giroud so they only need to do two transfers in three weeks.

That what fantasy football is though. Well organised players who have accommodated for contingencies should not have problems getting 3 players by gw37.

Sanchez is 11.2m, he's not a straight replacement for any midfielders for me without a hit

Captain will be Sanchez or Giroud for me. Probably the former.

Depends, people should have budgeted well to accommodate the players they need. Also its likely Chelsea will have wrapped up the league by then so Hazard > Sanchez needs relatively little funds

well depending on silva injury i will do silva>henderson/sterling, azi>ivanovic and maybe aguero>costa (if fit) if silva not injured then i will do mane>henderson

if i do the first plan then i will do kane>giroud and bellerin> sunderland defender in GW35
second plan then aguero>costa then kane>giroud

i will take out hazard for sanchez worth the risk imo

I thought Toby because you have 3 Soton defence. Clyne could be an option. People may disagree because of attacking threat but he's only got a couple of assist I think (could be wrong) Extra cash could be useful if looking at Sanchez

    I need to be smart.

My rival is captaining the obvious choice...
He's also miles ahead of me...

Risks need to be taken to stand a chance.

I do love Manchester. People singing happy birthday to Gerrard in the streets. 😆

Is it reasonable to go with a double Chelsea defense? They don't exactly look like ripping teams apart atm and in the big games like Arsenal they're always likely to focus on defense first, no?

Yes. It returned me points yesterday and anticipate at least one clean sheet in the DGW.

Quite reasonable, especially with Remy and Costa "out"

Imagine being outdone by Tim Sherwood in a semi final. My head actually hurts, so much that my forehead will explode soon.

He might as well get ready to show Klopp where the coffee machine is

Will exploding make it a threehead or a fivehead?

Crazy to start Albrighton ahead of Kane ?

11 crosses, 2 shots, 4 chances created by Albrighton vs Swansea (first game in a while)
