Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 36

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the number of new injuries picked up over the weekend’s fixtures, with United nursing a number of concerns in the final third.

Chelsea
Kurt Zouma was selected ahead of Gary Cahill for this afternoon’s draw with Liverpool but lasted just 35 minutes before being subbed off through injury. Petr Cech missed out altogether with a slight neck problem.

Everton
Leighton Baines is set for scans after being forced off through injury 74 minutes into the Toffees’ 2-0 home loss to Sunderland. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We are going to assess his ankle. He was really suffering, it was very painful so at that point we couldn’t take any risks. We are going to assess him over the next 48 hours and find out if he is going to be available for the rest of the season.”

Leicester
Nigel Pearson is sweating on the fitness of Matty James, after the midfielder was stretchered off during yesterday’s clash with Southampton. Post-match, the Foxes boss seemed pessimistic over the midfielder’s injury before also revealing that substitute David Nugent picked up a problem in the 2-0 win:

“We had to deal with a couple of injuries throughout the game. Matty James picked up what looks to be quite a serious knee injury then Nuge (David Nugent) going on as a sub and not being able to finish the game at full tilt. It potentially gives you a few problems. Credit to the players though, they dealt with what they had to today. [For Matty James] It really is a case of getting the scan done and taking it from there. It doesn’t look to be at all encouraging. It could be a serious knee injury, but we’ll wait and see what the scan tells us. With Nuge it’ll be a case of having a scan and seeing where we go.”

Reports also indicate that Leonardo Ulloa sustained a hamstring problem before making way for Nugent.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were both withdrawn due to injury during United’s trip to Palace. After the 2-1 win, Louis van Gaal played down the pair’s problems:

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance. Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time, but still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace. Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.”

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria missed out at Selhurst Park due to illness and injury respectively, whilst Chris Smalling was subbed off after suffering cramp. Van Gaal admitted the defender wasn’t playing particularly well prior to being hauled off:

“[Smalling] was stumbling and I don’t think he played his best match so that’s why I changed. He had cramp, you could see it because he was pulling at his toes.

Newcastle
Vurnon Anita was withdrawn late on after sustaining an injury during the Magpies draw with West Brom.

QPR
Sandro was unable to feature in today’s trip to City due to issues with his UK Residency visa.

I have no fookin idea. Injured for the Hull game, not fit enough yet for the QPR game, can only presume not trusted for the Chelsea game. Yet Glen Johnson starts again 😕
Yes he's prone to some shocking moments defensively (in true Liverpool fashion) but no worse than GJ and he's a machine bombing up the touchline. Been improving his defending and positioning over the season too imo.
Don't even mention Manquillo to me. What a waste 🙁

I fully expect him to start v Palace fwiw. If he doesn't then some sh1t's gone down behind the scenes, which I assume is the case with Manquillo.

Skirtle by far Pool's best defender. Just thin 2 years ago when he was considered the carthorse that had to be replaced.

Given how bad QPR were last night I think a wee punt on Kane > Leicester forward in gw 38 might be a good idea. Ulloa seems to be yellow-flagged. Is it serious, does anyone know?

    OSPINA

    Vardy / Aguero / Kane

    Schmeichel - Schlupp - Moreno - Siggy

      Vardy. Easy decision.

Sunderland will be resilient and Vardy is unlikely to score more than once anyway.

Hull are forced to go for it, they absolutely must win. Spurs are still creating lots of chances at home. The chance of a Kane brace is quite good I'd say. I'd certainly back him to outscore Vardy and might even bring him in on a FT instead of Wickham.

I'm not sure it is - Hendo could easily get 6 points and can't see Sunderland getting anything at Arsenal. 2FTs going into the last gameweek could be big

    Pantilimon - Schmeichel
    Skrtel - Terry - PvA - Smalling - Morgan
    Hendo - Rambo - Silva - Sanchez - Albrighton
    Giroud - Benteke - Aguero

what should I be looking at for GW38? maybe bringing Hazard back in?

He will want to. Mourinho may or may not let him. Bringing him in to your team would be a big risk, Jose will probably be non-committal even at the press conference.

I think the tendency at the club is to want to put him in wraps until next season.

    Afternoon DZ

Chuffed with a massive DGW 34 (93) and then Aguero C last night and i am up to 27K (88) with ospina, bellerin and ozil to play tonight... also happy to see there are still 4500 people ahead of me in the ffs league...

this really is an elite fpl website

Anyone else feel the sunderland DGW this week is a trap with them playing leicester and arsenal... definitely 2 of the form sides of the league. And with the clean sheet on the weekend to tempt people.

See below, I only have PVA, and may stick with that.
unless I get rid of Adam, but he is on fire!

Assuming you have a defender, I'd only consider one if you have dead wood.

Not expecting anything from Sunderland defence but already have Panti and Pva so will play them.

From Sunderland defence Panti is only one to consider.

Sunderland just beat one of the other form teams of the league, away from home. They were fortunate yes, but maybe that's a good sign too. Anything can happen in an open game of premier league football. And LEI SUN has a LOT riding on it for both clubs.

      1. bluetiger

Leicester Sunderland could easily be 0-0, a draw would likely see both teams stay up if Hull don't beat Spurs

Got a free transfer; but may save it?

    Ospina
    PVA Terry Skrtel (Morgan, Vlaar)
    Hazard Henderson Adam Sanchez (Cambiasso)
    Kane Aguero Giroud

Given that Kane has Hull, Adam is playing Burnley, save?

I've got 4 DGWers - should I hold a FT this week so that I'm in good shape for GW38?

    Migs
