Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 41

For the final time this season, we take a look at the Sky Sports game ahead of Sunday’s ten fixtures. As always,we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team.

Gameweek 40 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Southampton vs Aston VillaSadio Mane
Burnley vs StokeJack Butland
QPR vs NewcastleCharlie Austin
Sunderland vs LeicesterKasper Schmeichel
Tottenham vs HullDanny Rose
West Ham vs EvertonJohn Stones
Liverpool vs Crystal PalaceJason Puncheon
Swansea vs Man CityYaya Toure
Man United vs ArsenalAshley Young
West Brom vs ChelseaSaido Berahino
Arsenal vs SunderlandJohn O’Shea

The penultimate week threw up lots of differentials, with only Yaya Toure (9.9%) owned by a significant amount of managers. Arsenal were the real let-downs, with managers drafting in their assets in droves to take advantage of the double but were left frustrated by their lack of goals.

Gameweek 40 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed to pick up saves bonus this week. Costel Pantilimon was the real hero – he earned bonus for eight saves and also managed two clean sheets to pick up 16 points for Sunderland’s double. QPR’s Robert Green looks like earning the bonus equivalent of the golden glove, as he sits on 32 additional points.

In defence, six players grabbed bonus, five for tackles and one for passes completed. Pablo Zabaleta has the most bonus points(24) amongst defenders, whilst Cesar Azpilicueta is just two behind.

In midfield there were 21 beneficiaries in total: 15 for tackling and 11 for passes. Five players managed to earn both – all central midfielders, one of those was Nemanja Matic, who is the game’s highest bonus point earner with 54 points credited – almost the equivalent of 11 goals!

No forwards earned bonus this week but Wayne Rooney remains at the summit with 10 bonus points – all earned from passing.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Notes

My entire week can be summed up by the word “Mane”. The Southampton winger came good with an astonishing hat-trick, assist and MoTM award to earn 25 points – long overdue after watching him tease me for weeks. Aside from him, only David Silva managed to deliver, picking up ten points away to Swansea. My captains, in particular, produced nothing but I imagine it was the same for many. On a more positive note, we’re in the penultimate week and I’m sat in 36th position overall, continuing my decent Sky game record – at one stage I didn’t think I would make it but the acquisitions of Schlupp, Dawson, Silva and Mane in the later weeks really helped my cause. My concern is going into the final week without Sergio Aguero. Considering that many will have him – and very likely as captain – there’s still a chance I’ll slip out of the top 100 if he racks up another huge haul. The sofa will be firmly in place!

Captain Plan
With all matches on Sunday at 15:00 and so many questions over final day line-ups, it’s a real lottery. Of course, those holding position will likely opt for Aguero but if you’re chasing, I fancy a punt on Romelu Lukaku or David Silva to try and make a late climb to victory.

Infection is a big scare word.
As someone who's recently had dental trouble and probably going to have their Wisdom teeth out you can have some minor infection and not even know or feel it. You can just take anti-biotics and not have to worry.

    1. BeachBadger
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 27 days ago

      true but couple with

'I would never have allowed him to have the surgery if I thought this would happen. I don't know if he can play".

makes it sound a lot worse than just a few anti-biotics

      1. Sif
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 27 days ago

I think that with regards to the overall situation. I just don't think 'infection' should be treated as extra news. He had his teeth out as opposed to he's had his teeth out AND got some extra infection.

So Wenger said he will rest 2 or 3 players. We expect 3 or 4. Who are the likely candidates? For me,

    1) Koscienly (Gabriel needs a start)
    2) Giroud (Has played many games and is out of form. Walcott or Sanchez can take his place)
    3) Ramsey (Hasn't been training regularly for the last 10-14 days. Wilshere will definitely start)
    4) Cazorla or Ozil. (Cazorla more likely as he looked tired recently)

Other candidates are Sanchez and Bellerin. However, Sanchez doesn't like rest and if Wenger rests Giroud, Sanchez is likely to start in the middle. Bellerin could be rested for Chambers who hasn''t played for a while.

    Sounds right?

    1. Sif
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 27 days ago

Can be quite subjective, I thought Ozil looked the more tired and Cazorla quite lively.

    2. DVassell
      • 12 Years
      9 years, 27 days ago

      4) Cazorla and mayb Belly

    3. Dr Dream
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 27 days ago

Giroud would be the least likey of those. Ramsey for certain needs a rest. Ozil looked knackered and Wenger has a history of "over playing" him.

I have to admit that I am a bit biased about Ozil because he is my differential and I want a haul from him. But he also missed half of the season so he must be in less need of a rest than Cazorla who rarely misses a game and is 31 or 32. Also Ozil is Arsenal's most natural no 10. Cazorla can be replaced easier by Rosicky.

Everton and West Ham are both on same GD and same Points. So both will be playing for a win with maximum goals they can score to gain that extra place in the league and presumably lot's more money. It's also Position 10 vs Position 11 i.e. Finishing top half or finishing bottom half.

Not sure about the Leicester fwds...Vardy may need a rest as he's been playing on empty for several weeks...and/or...Ulloah may give way to Kramaric. Funny old things these final GW's

Same team that's kept us up will start, imo.

Based on what ?....We have no idea how the manager might view it. I definitely wouldn't sell one but picking one to bring in isn't really that safe.

That's the same case with every manager, though. It's all a guessing game.

      Mignolet
      Ivanovic, Bellerin, Vlaar
      Hazard, Sanchez, Hendo, Cazorla
      Kun, Kane, Benteke

      Krul | Boyd, Bertrand, PvA

      1FT, 1.5ITB

Thoughts here? Initially thinking Hazard -> Silva or Yaya but Mourinho didn't rule Hazard out, so now I'm thinking Boyd -> Bolasie/Young and play him over Kane. If Hazard doesn't play I'll get Kane off the bench.

What would you do in my situation, though?

I'm very tempted by Miralles, he will play because Lennon can't play against spurs.

Although i do think the Leicester game will be a party like many have said you can also look at it differently and say all that massive effort to get to safety they could take their foot of the gas and relax - so many games hard to call this week.

I am struggling to call any this week.
Now back at thinking Newcastle with something to play for.
But one point in ten games seems stupid to bring them in.

          This.

We're looking to end the season on a high, and that's by smashing QPR.

You are ignoring the psychological factor.

Relaxing immediately after objectives are achieved is very common behaviour, almost a reflex, especially when the objectives have required high effort.

That can play both ways, if Leicester get on top in the game they could conceivably blow QPR away. But QPR have just appointed Ramsey for 3 years and will be looking to the future, Ramsey will play the core of his 2015-16 team. If QPR get the jump on Leicester early it is also possible that Leicester will fold.

Impossible to call on tiredness or hunger for the last result and the number of rotations and injuries.
I can see an awful lot of "woe is me" comments on Sunday after the team sheets and again after the games.

Interesting ... I included a tag like construct with a greater than and a less than sign to indicate "insert player" - the validation must have tag removal code!!

Lots of games are very difficult to call. I still have Naughton and I'm considering bringing in somebody to ensure I have a full squad.

      A) Larsson > Milner (or other 6.3 or less mid) and have him as first sub in the most likely case that at least one of Hazard, Sanchez or Ramsey don't play (possibly keeping the likes of Haz might pay off if he does play? unlikely though now due to "infection"?)

      B) Hazard > Yaya or Silva and assume no chance for Eden

farrrrk Haz why did u have to go and get an infection...dry socket?!?!

Mourinho expected Eden to play and still hopes he will.

Recovery from the procedure Hazard had done is usually only a few days and he still has 2 days before the game.

Personally I won't be removing Eden and I think having a good 1st sub is more important given that Arsenal will rotate some players as well.

Puncheon, Montero or Mane could be other mids in that price range worth considering.

word, thanks for the reply, good shouts for the other mids. Montero seems an interesting proposition i hadn't considered. Him or Mahrez are now on my radar

Mane is a form pick. Montero is one I like, with Routledge injured he's starting regularly now and has been looking good. Plus Palace are not a defensive team.
