Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 41

For the final time this season, we take a look at the Sky Sports game ahead of Sunday’s ten fixtures. As always,we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team.

Gameweek 40 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Southampton vs Aston VillaSadio Mane
Burnley vs StokeJack Butland
QPR vs NewcastleCharlie Austin
Sunderland vs LeicesterKasper Schmeichel
Tottenham vs HullDanny Rose
West Ham vs EvertonJohn Stones
Liverpool vs Crystal PalaceJason Puncheon
Swansea vs Man CityYaya Toure
Man United vs ArsenalAshley Young
West Brom vs ChelseaSaido Berahino
Arsenal vs SunderlandJohn O’Shea

The penultimate week threw up lots of differentials, with only Yaya Toure (9.9%) owned by a significant amount of managers. Arsenal were the real let-downs, with managers drafting in their assets in droves to take advantage of the double but were left frustrated by their lack of goals.

Gameweek 40 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed to pick up saves bonus this week. Costel Pantilimon was the real hero – he earned bonus for eight saves and also managed two clean sheets to pick up 16 points for Sunderland’s double. QPR’s Robert Green looks like earning the bonus equivalent of the golden glove, as he sits on 32 additional points.

In defence, six players grabbed bonus, five for tackles and one for passes completed. Pablo Zabaleta has the most bonus points(24) amongst defenders, whilst Cesar Azpilicueta is just two behind.

In midfield there were 21 beneficiaries in total: 15 for tackling and 11 for passes. Five players managed to earn both – all central midfielders, one of those was Nemanja Matic, who is the game’s highest bonus point earner with 54 points credited – almost the equivalent of 11 goals!

No forwards earned bonus this week but Wayne Rooney remains at the summit with 10 bonus points – all earned from passing.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Cesc Fabregas is banned for the weekend following his red card, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling’s form has been poor in recent weeks, Wayne Rooney is doubtful after a leg injury whilst Sergio Aguero is a victim of the acquisition of Arsenal players as we see below.

Arsenal dominate after being involved on Wednesday night and unfortunately it was the attacking assets that were targeted for their 0-0 draw. Fantasy managers (myself included) will be sweating on them featuring on the final day after Arsene Wenger looks set to shuffle his starting XI.

Notes

My entire week can be summed up by the word “Mane”. The Southampton winger came good with an astonishing hat-trick, assist and MoTM award to earn 25 points – long overdue after watching him tease me for weeks. Aside from him, only David Silva managed to deliver, picking up ten points away to Swansea. My captains, in particular, produced nothing but I imagine it was the same for many. On a more positive note, we’re in the penultimate week and I’m sat in 36th position overall, continuing my decent Sky game record – at one stage I didn’t think I would make it but the acquisitions of Schlupp, Dawson, Silva and Mane in the later weeks really helped my cause. My concern is going into the final week without Sergio Aguero. Considering that many will have him – and very likely as captain – there’s still a chance I’ll slip out of the top 100 if he racks up another huge haul. The sofa will be firmly in place!

Captain Plan
With all matches on Sunday at 15:00 and so many questions over final day line-ups, it’s a real lottery. Of course, those holding position will likely opt for Aguero but if you’re chasing, I fancy a punt on Romelu Lukaku or David Silva to try and make a late climb to victory.

The great thing about SKY and many other games is that you have the option to use any remaining transfers to dump rested players before the kick off.

I have Ki and two transfers so probably him out and 1 of the rested players.
So at least I'll have 2 starters. 😀

I was tempted, thinking I was throwing away an extra game but had Arsenal players a plenty any way.
Of course if all your players play and you're sitting there with two transfers then you think you should have got the extra game. Tough call and always going to be a punt.

Replied last page. It's the risk we are all taking. Sanchez, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil etc. could all be rested (and that's just Arsenal). Obviously not worth a transfer replacing bench players.

Would you go A or B?

Best thing is to improve your bench and cover more bases.

I'd do neither of those transfers as Boyd has a good fixture and Hazard will play more likely than not.

I'd probably do Bertrand to Terry or Kolarov and play a 4-4-2. That way you would have Kane and Boyd benched and could afford to lose 2 starters to rotation and/or injury.

The alternative for me would be Kane to Gomis or Austin.

Yeah maybe that's a logical move. Would you go for Terry or Kolarov?

        1. Ruth_NZ

I'd go for JT. Sunderland are not a goal machine even when they need points.

I listened to Jose's press conference. He wants to play Hazard, he expected to play Hazard and he only won't play Hazard if medical advice says not to. The procedure Eden has had doesn't usually require long recovery and there are still 2 days left. That's why I think Hazard will play more likely than not.

Hmm Nadal vs Djokovic in the quarters. Yum yum yum. Rafa could potentially drop out of the top 10 if he loses....
If it wasn't for Monfils in the 4th round, Roger would have the perfect draw 🙁

ML cup final this weekend, decent money at stake. I've already done Ramsay -> Bolasie. I'm worried about Hazard and Benteke. Anything here worth taking a hit for? Sub order look good? How about vice captain choice?

He's blanked 3 weeks in a row and Arsenal have been struggling to score.

So how many hits are you willing to take with a 35 point lead to consolidate at the top of your ML when the danger players are:

    Benteke
    Ivanovic
    Cazorla

Only need to worry about Tekkers, right?

Assuming you have Chelsea defensive cover, yes.

-8 worthy to take Hendo, Haz and Austin out??

    Maybe Bolasie, Silva and Benteke.

Or a -4 with Haz and Austin to Silva and Benteke enough??

defending 24 point lead.....he has hazard and benteke.

Is hazard and giroud to Silva and lukaku for a hit worthwhile....Or just do hazard to Silva?
    Cheers

I wouldn't take a hit. Haz to Silva sounds good enough.

Repost, due to posting on an old topic.

18pts ahead in my ML, not sure what to do this week so advice would be appreciated

    Schmeichel
    Kolarov van Aanholt Skrtel
    Ramsey Sánchez Silva Sterling
    Agüero Giroud Kane

    Myhill Grealish Bertrand Trippier

    1FT £1.2m itb

    A) Sterling > Eriksen (Would cover my rival, but think he will be getting rid of him)
    B) Sterling > Willian (Good fixture and will probably play, if Hazard doesn't)
    C) Ramsey + Skrtel > Willian + Bellerin - 4 (Take a hit but cover Bellerin)
    D) Sterling + Giroud > Mahrez + Lukaku (Go for pts)
    E) Skrtel + Ramsey > Bellerin + Hazard - 4 (Get Haz,differential as he can't afford him without getting rid of Sanchez and cover Bellerin)

    Cheers

D out of those options. I'd play Trippier ahead of PvA as well.
