Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 3

We move onto Gameweek 3 and, as always, take a look at the Sky Sports game, assessing the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 2 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Aston Villa vs Man UnitedDaley Blind
Southampton vs EvertonRomelu Lukaku
Sunderland vs NorwichNathan Remond
Swansea vs NewcastleJonjo Shelvey
Tottenham vs StokeStephen Ireland
Watford vs West BromOdion Ighalo
West Ham vs LeicesterRiyad Mahrez
Crystal Palace vs ArsenalSanti Cazorla
Man City vs ChesleaSergio Aguero
Liverpool vs BournemouthChristian Benteke

Six midfielders and four forwards claimed the awards last week. A number of budget/mid-price options in midfield are staking a claim for a spot in our squads. Riyad Mahrez now has back-to-back MoTM awards and is the top scorer with 29 points, all for just 6.0m – with a kind fixture list to come, he’s the stand out option at this point. Nathan Redmond, at 5.5m, is also looking a great option – tipped as a MoTM magnet in our previous article, he seems to have also added more goals to his game and looks another good acquisition. Jonjo Shelvey, at 6.3, also looks great value – at 0.2 less than Andre Ayew, he also has the potential for bonus points in his locker and is in fantastic form right now.

Gameweek 2 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers picked up bonus this week – Boaz Myhill was the only one to also manage a clean sheet and brought in nine points for his owners.

In defence, 14 players grabbed bonus, nine for tackles and five for passes completed. Ashley Williams managed a staggering 102 successful passes and was just one tackle short of picking up both bonus points on offer. His team-mate Kyle Naughton can count himself unlucky as he just missed out on both by six completed passes and one tackle – at 5.3, he is currently looking the best budget defender on offer.

In midfield, there were 14 beneficiaries in total: nine for tackling and seven for passes. Cesc Fabregas and Aaron Ramsey were the two to pick up both and are always in the mix for bonus to help them tick along.
Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

AdrianWest Ham4.81.97%

Adrian’s three-match ban and Ryan Bertrand’s ongoing injury have seen both subject to heavy sales. A lack of form from Eden Hazard, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney has persuaded their owners to look elsewhere.

Fantasy managers are clearly keen to acquire City’s in-form pair Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany. Bafetimbi Gomis has netted in each of Swansea’s opening fixtures, whilst Liverpool left-back Joe Gomez and Leicester’s Mahrez offer budget-friendly options further back.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Notes
It’s taken four transfers but I’m happier with my team now and getting it right early is important, so I always afford myself extra changes at the beginning. There’s more to follow in the coming weeks before hopefully – injury permitting – it settles down. With some nice fixtures to follow, David Silva will be coming in for Christian Benteke as the little Spaniard has continued where he left off last season. Sadio Mane and Max Gradel will stay in for now until their schedules turn for the worse and then I’ll reasses the pair, with Swansea assets, Yohan Cabaye and Xherdan Shaqiri on my radar. Adrian managed to pick up a red card against Leicester and is now banned for three matches but I’ll stick by him and just take the hit as I don’t want to use a transfer on a goalkeeper if I can help it.

Captain Plan
I’m undecided whether to bring Memphis Depay in as captain for Benteke in United’s clash against Newcastle. If I do, it gives me two captains for this week but at the expense of a transfer and I’m not sure I would want him long term, so potentially that’s two transfers and I have already used four. It’s one for me to ponder on Saturday morning but at this stage I’ll likely just opt for one captain – in the form of Sergio Aguero – for Man City’s match away to Everton on Sunday. This works out nicely as Aguero will then be my skipper next week on Saturday at home to Watford.

I've the same (horrible) choice. I'm going with Coates, slightly better chance of a CS according to the bookies.
There is a worry he won't play, after Dick's comments, however, if he doesn't there's less chance of him coming on for 1 pt as he is a CB.
      Both similar goal threats.

They'll both score 1 or 0 anyway but that was my thinking 🙂

Mahrez a must, esp for v good price rises. If anything, I'd go Mahrez and Depay.

    My team is currently:

    Butland, McCarthy

    Kompany, Darmian, Gomez, Richards, S.Taylor

    Sanchez, Silva, Payet, Mahrez, Westwood

    Aguero Pelle, Gomis

The only thing I'm not sure about it Pelle, although he's at a nice price to downgrade if I need the funds in the near future.

    Would you rather

    A) Leave it as it is

    B) Pelle > Diouf, Kompany > Kolarov, Taylor > Azpi

    C) Something else?

With Benzema/Carvani -> Arsenal rumors, I am on WC and thinking about leaving some fund to get them straight into my team if it happens next week. Anyone on WC thinking about the same? assume you would want to have Aguero, Which big hitter will you sacrifice then?

I'd want to monitor them for a few weeks first anyway, wouldn't let it put me off spending all my budget

Benzema doesn't hurt Sanchez's value quite the opposite imo, he is more of a supportive striker used to play with a shark (CR9) on his left - should work well for Sanchez who I currently have in my WC team.

With Cavani that could change the situation, but Cavani would come in at 12.0 at least and would rather wait and see what I'm getting for that dolla

difficult to afford sanchez + benzema/carvani tho

what i mean is that if Arsenal get Benzema, which seems to be the case, I won't bother with getting him as I have Sanchez. Benzema is not a premium fantasy striker, he does not score that much - unless Arsenal would play more around him that Real.

If they get Cavani, I would consider dropping Sanchez and getting Cavani in after I see what Cavani brings to the table. His for has been questionable for quite some time.

At Real, he plays for Ronaldo. Nowhere else will he play that much of a support role. He will be more target and less source of passes at everywhere else. Everywhere. Even at Arsenal? Especially at Arsenal.

This is my 5th season playing yet I'm having the worst start yet this year so I opted to play my wildcard

    http://i.imgur.com/QdKbHMo.png

I picked Kompany and Kolorov because I knew both of them would rise this week, now I need to remove one of them.. who should I choose ? If you could spare 10 seconds to rate the rest of my team as well I would highly appreciate it ☺

Kompany is the long term pick, provided he stays healthy, with a new defender and Clichy coming back soon Kolarov might be rotated, especially when CL starts.

I went with Kompany in my WC team, as I won't be able to afford the rotation headache, but Kolarov is surely the higher risk higher reward pick

I always try and avoid city (and chelsea) defenders because of rotation but this time they seem pretty solid at the back and have a couple of good fixtures coming up

I would go after centre backs, all wing backs are risks right now including Ivanovic.

Good team in my opinion but do you trust Lukaku with those fixtures?

What an absolute farce from FPL.

Just straight priced both of those players out of the game.

RMT Bit risky without Sanchez or silva? Not sure where to free up the funds for either

    Myhill Butland
    Darmian Gomez Richards Kompany Williams
    Mahrez Yaya Ozil Payet Depay
    Aguero Gomis Diouf

Quite template but any tips welcome!

Inler priced at 5 is definitely one to watch for a budget midfielder. Good amount of assists and pops up with the odd goal.

Cambiasso was 4.5 if I remember. Inler is not as good.

Nah, Cambiasso was 5.0 too but lost value during the season.
