The ScoutCast – Episode 166 – Patsy

It’s Jonty’s time to curry sympathy this week and he’s on the receiving end of a barrage of cyber-bullying from co-host Granville.

Determined to the belittle Jonty’s Wildcard performance following Callum Wilson’s hat-trick, Granville takes to Twitter before roasting him live on air on the ScoutCast. He seems to have totally missed the fact that I too sold on Wilson as part of my own Wildcard; I’m quite happy for Jonty to play Patsy on this one.

Jonty rolls with the virtual punches to join us as we look back on the Gameweek that saw all three of us refresh our squads. We score our Wildcards out of ten, before scanning the community for Gameweek tales in “Rough with the Smooth”.

We then take on your questions, as we assess Pedro’s pedigree, the lure of Aleks Kolarov and the merits of a well-rounded squad in the light of the FPL chips.

This ScoutCast was first broadcast live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday. Be sure to subscribe to our channel for news of upcoming live Casts. You can view the broadcast in full via the larger player below but, if you prefer the edited audio version, you’ll need this link or the smaller player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone who watched the Soton match yesterday here?
Can you advise if it would be wise to keep Pelle in my team for the clash against Watford or ship him out?

Watford seems solid at the back and I can't see Soton scoring given that they failed badly against a mediocre team of Midtjylland (never heard of it before).

I still have a FT, which I was planning to save, but I fear I lose more point holding to Pelle, after a poor start to my team.

If I am to ship him, any potential striker in mind?
I already own Kun and Diouf!

    Thnx

Considering Watford v Southampton finished 0-0 last week, I'd probably say no!!!

Does that mean you'd have stick to Pelle or ship him for another in-form striker?
If so, who would you prefer?

        Thnx

I had Pelle from the start and just got rid of him. He looks ok but Southampton are struggling to score at the moment. I can't see this going on all season but there are much better options out there for the same price at this stage.

Not sure who to play out of these guys:

    A) Shaw (swa)

    B) Francis (LEI)

    C) Ayew (MUN)

    D) Gomis (MUN)

There are places for two of them, including one of the defenders.

He was on the bench last next if he was fit you would've expected him to come on for the last 20 minutes

Koeman said he didn't bring him on because he wasn't 100%..and they need him for more games.check "mane news now for source" not sure why he would bench him if he wasn't at least capable of 20 mins..I'm sure he be OK Sunday and they do need him desperately

I'm keeping Pelle for one more game and banking the 1 x FT to then have options to bring in Sanchez....

As for Mane I heard good chance he'll play and rated at 80%

Pelle has zero supply atm.. Literally zero supply! Tadic has a mystery injury, JRod looks rusty still, the likes of Davis/JWP just do not create enough
And Even though Soton were losing 1-0(and leaving Europe!) Koeman dint put Mane on. Admitted post match that Mane is not fit and that it would have been too risky to put him on(why he even put him on the bench is another question altogether). Make of that what you will

According to the pre-match report, Soton knew they don;t have a solid squad to compete in European and EPL, so I guess they didn't played with ambitions.

        To quote Targett interview;

When asked about Southampton's chances of qualifying for Europe again this season, the 19-year-old said: "I think it will be much tougher this season.

"Obviously we've lost [Morgan] Schneiderlin and [Nathaniel] Clyne, they are two very key players who played a big role in last season's success.

"If we get into the group stages in Europe, it will be a lot more difficult [to secure another European spot] because we haven't got as big a squad.

"So there'll be a lot of tired legs but it will be good for the club to get to that stage."

They were trying to progress as far as they could in Europe. Even the interview with Targett(who is not Koeman and is the 2nd choice LB) ends with him saying itd be a good thing for the club to go through. Saints are just poor atm with injuries and poor form affecting them. Tell any Soton fan that the Saints dint want to stay in Europa any longer and they'll prob throw a beer mug at you 🙂

I know they wanted to be in Europa League but they have been realistic.
They've got priorities and their priority seem to be EPL and domestic cups. Do well and hopefully get back to Europa with a hopefully better and deeper squad.

They don't want to ends up like Everton last year I guess, finishing 11th I think!

I`d say they will be very happy to end up like Everton and finish 11th this campaign. Even when they are not in EL anymore.

Yes. Chelsea want him and will pay big money.

As usual, Daniel Levy has an iron in the fire, though. He doesn't bother about getting Spurs ready, he's mainly interested in screwing the maximum cash in the last week of the window.

Juventus want Eriksen - that is most likely the root of his "knee injury". They almost certainly won't release Pogba till they get him. Levy will play the game till the last minute as he did 2 seasons ago when Bale to RM was delayed as long as possible in the attempt to get maximum bucks and prevent or delay Ozil to Arsenal.

Maybe. But they will have a lot of cash to spend. They'll probably get around €75m for Pogba.

I think Mourinho would be willing to lose Oscar to get Pogba but he doesn't really want to. Chelsea would prefer a cash deal (or something including Mikel).

How do you'll believe everything you'll read?

        Eriksen is going nowhere.

Pogba is staying too - he has a release clause = someone would have paid it a month back if they actually wanted him - Juventus, last years CL finalists won't sell him for anything below that.

See the other large problem that people haven't thought about is the Euro depreciating. This makes most continental clubs pretty un-competitive now.
How many clubs can afford to pay 40M for Eriksen?

Spurs might be so, but juventus aren't.

The only clubs in Europe that can probably afford and need him are: Juventus and Wolfsburg - and both can only buy once they sell.

Obviously PSG, Barca etc can go for him - but he's clearly not at their level.

Juve will know that Pogba to Chelsea is a done deal as soon as they OK it. I think they just don't want to lose him till they have secured the replacements (they have to replace Vidal and Pirlo as well).

Pogba to Chelsea may also involve Cuadrado's loan being made permanent.

An Arsenal fan, but LFC did impress me with their new look defense.
W.Ham lack fire power and seem to be going without Sakho also.

Only Payet is not enough to beat LFC.

Well you can't argue that Wilson has form and fixtures so there are justifications for the hit. That said you have a great defence so playing 4 at the back (+4) seems reasonable.

Not a bad time to get Wilson in with a view to upcoming fixtures mind

        Kolarov Gomez Richards
        Sanchez Mahrez Ayew Yaya
        Aguero (c) Gomis Wilson

With a Solid United defence, I don't think that the Swans would be scoring more than a goal..

Not only is it not slavery or anything of the sort, it is an example of the free market offer and acceptance contracting mechanism at play.

Everton acquired the commitment of a talented youngster who they could utilise to serve their footballing purposes and Stones gained the attention of a footballing club and all their apparatuses geared towards making him better.

He also gained the security of being paid faithfully should he have both knees shattered and being paid if his level dipped and no longer justified his salary.

To even mentions words like slavery and imprisonment is obscene.

Do some resrach about the African players trafficked from their homes to play 'professionally' in places like Cambodia & Laos. Then tell me that slavery does not exist in football.

But anyway, at the top level, and with people like Stones' example. Of course it's not slavery as we all think of the word. But they are bonded to a club like none of us are in our normal lives. If I work for Tesco, and I want to go work for Morrisons then aside from a Months/weeks notice, I am free to do that. That's all I meant. No intention to offend 🙂

First, I didn't claim that. I dealt with Stones. I don't pontificate about things I don't know about.

Wrong. Lots of people sign professional contracts for specific lengths and if you fail to perform the agreed duties laid out in the contract without the express consent of both parties to mutually terminate it you are liable for damages in civil law.

Naturally this doesn't apply to stacking the shelves in Tesco because the labour is so simply replaced.

As I said, If Stones has terrible injuries he is paid in full. Upsides to both which is why he freely signed.

No offence taken mate. There are a lot of people in positions of actual slavery and it's something I'm active in, so I don't like seeing these words being incorrectly bandied about

That's the reason why only rich owners and rich football club are successful today.
Because they just don't let the others grow!

See the number of players Arsenal lost..

But it all finally depends on the players. I think Release clause should be compulsory in all contracts..
If the others really want him, they just have to pay the cash, so the 'victim' team can get a good replacement and some profit upon it.

But I firmly condemn players who sit out or under-perform purposely to force a move away! They are paid to play, its a work where they are dearly paid..

      Nice team. Save.

Looking forwards though, I'd be worried about Payet just because of how poor they've looked since the West Ham game. It's going to be hard for Payet to prosper in those conditions

My plan going forward would be to ditch Darmian for a cheapie(utd fixtures), do Payet>Ayew & Gomis>Tekkers if funds allow.

Can anyone answer these chip related 'what ifs' please?

    A) What if I play my AOA chip, but then one of my attacking 8 doesn't play?
    B) What if I use my triple captain and my captain doesn't play?
    C) (Not a what if this one).... A wildcard is counted as a chip in terms of I can't play my WC and a chip in the same GW right?

A: Then your first DEF sub will come on
      B. Triple vice captain
      C. No, I don't think you can play WC and an extra chip in one GW

Thx. And in the case of A), then your chip will still have been used I take it even though you weren't technically All out attack

Have you seen Paul Merson's write up on Yaya from 2010?

Why would a team need Yaya when they have De Jong and Barry anyways..

Currently considering getting the BAPs magnet Kolarov, worried about his rotation risk though, should I invest more funds and get Kompany instead?

I have 4 other nailed on defenders should Kolarov get dropped any given week.

    Hi fellas, tidy problem..

Thinking Mane isn't fit enough to start since he wasn't used from the bench yesterday when they needed a goal. You reckon I should start Sinclair(SUN) over him? Keep in mind Sinclair isn't guaranteed a start, but should start after his cup hattrick earlier in the week and with Agbonlahor out of form.

Tricky one, I think its 50/50 whether sinclair starts the game. Agbonlahor & gustede will start, its a question of who starts with them maybe even traore

Grealish? Sinclair has two hattricks this month and 5 goals in his last 8 home appearances. Agbonlahor has been crap to thinking he will be the one who drops to bench for Sinclair.

Why not, it's not like we will get 15 DGW players for a DGW so don't understand why most want to save this for a DGW..

And you'll probably want to use triple captain chip in one of the DGW's. What's more, at this point, most of your players should be playing, whereas later in the season, a couple will always be injured
