The ScoutCast – Episode 166 – Patsy

It’s Jonty’s time to curry sympathy this week and he’s on the receiving end of a barrage of cyber-bullying from co-host Granville.

Determined to the belittle Jonty’s Wildcard performance following Callum Wilson’s hat-trick, Granville takes to Twitter before roasting him live on air on the ScoutCast. He seems to have totally missed the fact that I too sold on Wilson as part of my own Wildcard; I’m quite happy for Jonty to play Patsy on this one.

Jonty rolls with the virtual punches to join us as we look back on the Gameweek that saw all three of us refresh our squads. We score our Wildcards out of ten, before scanning the community for Gameweek tales in “Rough with the Smooth”.

We then take on your questions, as we assess Pedro’s pedigree, the lure of Aleks Kolarov and the merits of a well-rounded squad in the light of the FPL chips.

This ScoutCast was first broadcast live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday. Be sure to subscribe to our channel for news of upcoming live Casts. You can view the broadcast in full via the larger player below but, if you prefer the edited audio version, you’ll need this link or the smaller player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Aguero may have a 60% scout captain poll vote, but i bet a lot of the 1.3million people above me don't even have aguero. From the disgruntled comments around here, i reckon few of them use this website. They have all just got lucky so far.

Aguero will drag the FFS community out of our awful starts this week. Mark my words.

Sergio Aguero has scored in each of his last five Premier League home appearances, netting seven times in those games.
If last year's best defense (Chelsea) hasn't been able to get hold of him, just imagine what Watford will be up to!

Coz they've been facing team without the teeth to bite until now!
Soton has not been able to score against a mediocre Midtjylland team.
West Brom is out on his own. The only attacker they've faced is Lukaku who ran havoc in their defense!

    OPTA FACTS

    LFC vs W.Ham

    - Liverpool have won nine and lost two of their last 14 Premier League games at Anfield, with only one team (Sunderland) keeping a clean sheet in that run.

    - West Ham have won none of their last 42 league visits to Anfield, losing 31.

    - In top-flight history, the Hammers' 42 game winless away streak at Liverpool is only lower than Stoke's 52 game winless run at Liverpool (which is also current).

    - Swansea City won both Premier League meetings with Man Utd last season, ending a run of eight league games without a win over them (D2 L6).

    Man Utd vs Swans

    - Manchester United have failed to score in three of their last five Premier League games on the road.

    - Swansea have won three of the last four meetings with Man Utd in all competitions, all by a 2-1 scoreline.

    Man City vs Watford

    - Sergio Aguero has scored in each of his last five Premier League home appearances, netting seven times in those games.

    - Watford have won just three of their 39 Premier League away matches (W3 D7 L29).

So, any prediction for the clash peeps?

Can't see United scoring two, they couldn't make one against Newcastle at home. Agree with the other two.

Yeah, I fancy a 1-0 Swans victory in this one! Swans have looked the real deal, front and back. United have had some good chances, but otherwise look somewhat average.

It is history when you include Watfords away record from the EPL 8 years ago! And most of those results include stats from last season which are irrelevant now. West ham's stats go back 42 games with different managers/players(and same with Pool) during that period hence making that irrelevant too.

There was someone on here season start saying you GOT to start with Fabregas because historically he has always done well against Swansea or something. Said that Simon March told him to follow fixture trends or some thingamajig term. People consider anything to be stats these days.

Anything worth a hit (1.2m ITB)/bench all in order chaps?

    Courtois
    Kolarov, Darmian, Gomez
    Alexis (vc), Yaya, Mahrez, Payet
    Aguero (c), Gomis, Wilson

    (McCarthy)(Ayew, Richards, Oxford)

You should swap Ayew with Payet - he's got more chance of doing something as the hammers are away to Liverpool.

Ayew is very expensive to be on the bench but it's necessary given the strength of your team. You're good to go, no hits needed. Congrats on that team!

Wolfsburg's director of sport Klaus Allofs says Manchester City have made an 'astonishing' salary offer to Kevin De Bruyne.

"He's had an astonishing, astonishing offer from City and we can't compete with that," he said. "We had to take it seriously and that is the way we react with our players and finally we decided to start negotiations with City.”

Not sure what Everton are playing at, I'm all for clubs standing their ground on a player, but it's not like Stones makes the difference between Everton finishing top 4 or not, £37m could transform the whole team if invested wisely.

        Many options out there;

Van Djik, Jonny Evans, Lescott just off the top of my head, I'm sure any of those players would be available before deadline day.

..and then you have £30m in the bank for the next window.

Anyone else think Pool will play 2 upfront this week hence why Ings had the first 11 training bib on?. Easyish home game and no henderson.. can see Milner alongside Can/Lucas with Coutinho, Firminho, Benteke, Ings ahead of them. good practice for this system for when sturridge returns next week

Thinking of this to be your WC team?

Nah, Markovic is a long term pick. Had glimpses last year that suggested his potential.
Part of the "problem" with all of the buys from the Suarez money was that most were development players, not necessarily an instant impact.

Except for Lolatelli. Screw that guy 😛

fair enough, he might come good, but for £20m I'd want more certainty than that. On top of Balotelli you also have £25m for Lallana, which will always be a terrible waste, and Lovren for £20m..

        1. Polo

Lovren could still come good. 3 clean sheets from 3 as starting cb this season. Lallana was overpriced but still worth his place in the squad.

Targett. But it's very close between him and Darmian.

Southampton looking a bit soft this year, and Utd looking surprisingly strong at the back, but up against a strong attacking team in Swans

I'm considering the stupid/maverick move of going with Coutinho on my WC over Sanchez, but keeping enough money ITB to cover a direct transfer. It will probably be done immediately the following week, but I can always wait or direct the money elsewhere if needs be (e.g Gomis>Costa)

    1. Ruth_NZ

The only "stupid" thing about that is keeping money in the bank for Sanchez. You don't need him.

Coutinho + Costa is a miles better proposition than Sanchez + Gomis in my view.

    Thoughts on my WC team?

    Ruddy - (Rudd)
Kolorav - Shaw - Gomez (Richards - Steven Taylor)
    Sanchez - Silva - Pedro - Redmond - Mahrez
    Aguero - Gomis (Graham)

With nothing in the bank, any improvements that need to be made?

Uh-Oh. A 3-5-2 WC team. Run away before they tear it apart 😆

I think its a great team, but I would downgrade Gomis to Wilson to upgrade Redmond

Somehow seems a bit weak in attack with both Redmond & Graham.

I'd go Redmond>Westwood & Graham>Wilson personally and play Wilson every week and have Westwood as perfectly decent attacking coverage on the bench

How about Wilson for Gomis and Ayew for Redmond?

    Last descision on WC:

    A: Butland, Azpi, 4.0 def.
    B: Courtois, Muniesa, 4,5 def.

With both Kolarov and Gomez also in defense I find B more safe.
    What do you think?

    1. Puyol Pants Up
      • 9 Years

Yeah, I would go with B.

matter of time before Gomez gets benched. look a weak link out there, losing the ball and making bad decisions.

Are we expecting both Swans and United to concede? Considering playing Richards instead of Williams & Darmian

We Can...Swans always manage to get past United Defense...Gomis/Williams will give Blind a tough time with Headers on corners...

Alessandro Matri will be in London today to undergo a medical at West Ham, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

It is reported that the striker, 31, will join the English side on loan from AC Milan.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Fiorentina, scoring five times.

It seems that those teams who have done more than one transfer during GW3 have not seen their points reduced for the extra transfers..Am I right?
