Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 5 – Monday

Dimitri Payet scores both West Ham’s goals as Slaven Bilic’s men earn a first home victory of the season. The Hammers also earn a third clean sheet of the campaign as visitors Newcastle fail to find the net for the fourth successive league outing.

Payet at the Double

West Ham secured their third win of the campaign courtesy of a brace from Dimitri Payet. The France international steered the ball into the top corner from 20 yards for the Hammers’ opener, before claiming his second with a rebound from a Victor Moses strike. Payet now boasts three goals and one assist in five outings, having contributed to 11 goals (four goals and seven assists) in his previous 13 league appearances (including Ligue 1).

Priced at 7.6, Payet is sure to enjoy an increase on his 8.4% ownership in the wake of his double against the Magpies. Although the Irons next face a Manchester City rearguard that’s yet to concede this term, a strong trio of fixtures (NOR, sun, cry) beyond Gameweek 6 look more conducive to attacking returns. Certainly, many Fantasy managers will be eager to source coverage from Slaven Bilic’s outfit, given that they rank joint-top – alongside Man City and Leicester City – for goals scored (11) this term.

Victor Moses (5.3) and Mark Noble (5.5) served up the assists, with the former making his debut for the club. Moses looks to have edged ahead of fellow new boy Michail Antonio in Bilic’s first-team plans but Noble is making a strong case for investment in light of his recent productivity (two goals and one assist). The newly instated West Ham captain benefits from penalty duty and has tallied the same number of shots inside the box (four) as Payet.

Having conceded six goals in their two match-ups at the Boleyn Ground, the Hammers were much tighter at the back this time around, registering their second clean sheet on the trot and third of the campaign. A shut-out on the Sky Blues’ home turf will likely be a step too far, yet their trips to Sunderland and Crystal Palace offer encouragement on the defensive front, considering they’re one of four sides not to concede on the road.

Magpies Woes Continue

Newcastle slumped to their fourth successive defeat on Monday night, underlining their current irrelevance on the Fantasy scene. The Toon have now lost eight of their last 10 away clashes and – with Man City next on their road schedule – that inglorious statistic is unlikely to change any time soon. Furthermore, the Tynesiders have tasted victory just three times in 24 matches this calendar year.

Next on the agenda for Steve McClaren’s beleaguered troops is a home tie against Watford. The Hornets have proved to be a tough nut to crack on their travels this term, conceding just 14 shots inside the box and two big chances, and arrive on the back of three clean sheets in the last four matches – only City have scored against them over that period. Given that the Magpies have now failed to find the net since Gameweek 1, those holding Watford defenders will fancy their chances of earning another shut-out.

Is it crazy if I'm benching Pedro AND Sanchez for Darmian and Francis? Team looking like this

Darmian (sou) - Francis (SUN) - Kol (WHU) - Liverpool (NOR)

Chadli (CRY) - Ayew (EVE) - Mahrez (stk)

Wilson (SUN) - Aguero (WHU) - Gomis (EVE)

        You don't bench 9.5 & 11 M players.

If you want to bench them you might as well not get them. Just my opinion though

Thought I may get a reaction like that. But Chelsea vs Arsenal is a type of game that will only be 1-0 as the highest scoring score line especially as it's played at 12:45 where scores tend to be low. Could work out...

I see your point, but the ceiling for these players in much much higher than the ones you're considering replacing them with. You pay the money for the hauls, you never know when they might come.

Risky move but can pay off if your defenders keep clean sheets and the attacking players you bench blank. I played Francis + Kos over Benteke + Pelle for the last 2 GWs and I think it sorta worked out... kinda. Still left points on the bench.

I don't really understand the idea that players can share points . People just seem to use it to rule out players they don't like and completely ignore it when they want to justify a player . Someone a few pages back said Diouf is going to share points with the Stoke mids but I guarantee no one is going to say Payet is going to share points when though he is playing with Moses , Sakho and Kouyate ? I think it applies in certain circumstances but it is over used

    1. RustyBz

It depends on how dominant the player is within the team. We all want to get the main guy but sometimes its hard to know who the main guy is when there are 3 or 4 others within that team that are just as capable of getting goals and assists. There are only so many goals and assists to go around generally. Its better to get the guy who will have the lions share of that.

For teams that do not focus on just a particular player to score they usually share points. Or fluid attack where players switch position frequently.

Benteke at villa u can see every ball is aimed at him..and surely he will be involved in most of the goals

    Butland/Ruddy
    Kolarov, Nyom, Francis
    Ayew, Mahrez, Yaya Touré, Sánchez
    Wilson, Kane, Agüero

To the folks languishing between say 500k to 1.5m, do we still think there is a chance we can finish inside top 1k? or is top 10k or 20k more realistic now.

top 10k would be good enough for me now. top1k is definitely out of reach.

Was 1k last season but i worked off a solid base where i was looking to improve my team with every FT...

This season, it's fighting fires and getting rid of deadwood with FTs.

Might be a silly question, but if you're trying to make the most of a TV boost with your Wildcard, do you activate it as soon as the GW starts?

Or it's still OK to wait and play it early ish (E.g Today/Tomorrow)?

I see. What I'm thinking about is that I'm not sure if I should use the WC not, waiting on a few injuries. Does the waiting mean it makes sense to push the WC to next week?

        Catch those early risers..

The only reason to wait, in my opinion, is if you're still unsure if you want to do it. Once you're committed to a WC for TV purposes you need t be maximising the week. You would have presumably decided it's a viable option because you're expecting some rapid rises, and you get in those players that are set to rise as early as possible.

I'm not sure I see any double rises this week, so unless you're thinking of buying Wilson, Yaya and Pedro (he's going to rise tonight honest, FFF says so!! 😆 ) and keeping them all longer term, I'm not sure there's any TV to be gained this week.

While Payet may become a bandwagon, surely not the week he has City next up??

      1. Jøssy ⭐
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 8 months ago

Just to clarify... When you confirm the WC itself is irrelevant, but you'd want to initiate the actual transfer activity sharpish if you feel there are some good price rises you can jump on.

        1. RustyBz
          • 9 Years
          8 years, 8 months ago

Thanks this makes sense. Yeah I understand but would like to avoid taking numerous hits if in case I end up not playing the WC!

Completely agree mate. So if you think it's a good idea, and you start the process, you're all-in from the moment you make multiple transfers, so no point in waiting to use the WC.

If you wait and miss a few price rises, may as well not bother.

The FFS way would be to keep Sanchez and Hazard through the blanks til they finally explode.

When they could have got more points weeks earlier by selling and spreading the funds.

To be honest, he has been unlucky. He started the season unfit, but is gradually getting better. He should have had a goal this weekend, and if Walcott put away his miss he at least would have gotten an assist. Hit the post after that so I guess you could say he has been unlucky. His shooting stats look promising and it seems to be more of a question of when he will start performing to his level than if so I would hold for now.

Swapping him for another Arsenal midfielder seems wasteful because it's hard to predict who will play and hit form and get the points. I wouldn't get him, not with Chelsea anyway, but if you have him (and I have him) I would hold him for sure.

The regular captain choices haven't really performed, Sanchez included. You might be right that he is poor value at the moment, but swapping him out (and for who) seems unneccesary at the moment.

          • 12 Years

You certainly make some great points there. Yea, in terms of goal threat and number of shots, he is doing fine.

I might be just frustrated from the lack of point gained from a player with such a huge value.
