Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 5 – Monday

Dimitri Payet scores both West Ham’s goals as Slaven Bilic’s men earn a first home victory of the season. The Hammers also earn a third clean sheet of the campaign as visitors Newcastle fail to find the net for the fourth successive league outing.

Payet at the Double

West Ham secured their third win of the campaign courtesy of a brace from Dimitri Payet. The France international steered the ball into the top corner from 20 yards for the Hammers’ opener, before claiming his second with a rebound from a Victor Moses strike. Payet now boasts three goals and one assist in five outings, having contributed to 11 goals (four goals and seven assists) in his previous 13 league appearances (including Ligue 1).

Priced at 7.6, Payet is sure to enjoy an increase on his 8.4% ownership in the wake of his double against the Magpies. Although the Irons next face a Manchester City rearguard that’s yet to concede this term, a strong trio of fixtures (NOR, sun, cry) beyond Gameweek 6 look more conducive to attacking returns. Certainly, many Fantasy managers will be eager to source coverage from Slaven Bilic’s outfit, given that they rank joint-top – alongside Man City and Leicester City – for goals scored (11) this term.

Victor Moses (5.3) and Mark Noble (5.5) served up the assists, with the former making his debut for the club. Moses looks to have edged ahead of fellow new boy Michail Antonio in Bilic’s first-team plans but Noble is making a strong case for investment in light of his recent productivity (two goals and one assist). The newly instated West Ham captain benefits from penalty duty and has tallied the same number of shots inside the box (four) as Payet.

Having conceded six goals in their two match-ups at the Boleyn Ground, the Hammers were much tighter at the back this time around, registering their second clean sheet on the trot and third of the campaign. A shut-out on the Sky Blues’ home turf will likely be a step too far, yet their trips to Sunderland and Crystal Palace offer encouragement on the defensive front, considering they’re one of four sides not to concede on the road.

Magpies Woes Continue

Newcastle slumped to their fourth successive defeat on Monday night, underlining their current irrelevance on the Fantasy scene. The Toon have now lost eight of their last 10 away clashes and – with Man City next on their road schedule – that inglorious statistic is unlikely to change any time soon. Furthermore, the Tynesiders have tasted victory just three times in 24 matches this calendar year.

Next on the agenda for Steve McClaren’s beleaguered troops is a home tie against Watford. The Hornets have proved to be a tough nut to crack on their travels this term, conceding just 14 shots inside the box and two big chances, and arrive on the back of three clean sheets in the last four matches – only City have scored against them over that period. Given that the Magpies have now failed to find the net since Gameweek 1, those holding Watford defenders will fancy their chances of earning another shut-out.

I'm actually getting a headache deciding between Darmian (sou) and Francis (SUN)?
I guess I could play it this way, if United prevent PSV from scoring, play Darmian?

    Ruddy Butland
    Huth Mertesacker Williams Coates Gomez
    Hazard Mahrez Lens Yaya Bentaleb
    Aguero Costa Deeney

Potential WC team would look something like this:

    Butland McCarthy
    Dawson Kolarov Williams Nyom Gomez
    Sanchez Mahrez Ayew Yaya Westwood
    Aguero Benteke Diouf

    Thanks!

    Benching dilemma -

Sanchez (che) - Ozil (che) - Silva (WHU) - Mahrez (stk) - Hoolahan (liv)
Aguero (WHU) - Gomis (EVE) - Wilson (SUN)

Atm I am actually considering benching Hoolahan, but any differing opinions?

Francis is coming in this week, deffo! Need rid of Richards, and that Sunderland tie of his is tantalising for both his defensive and attacking prospects...

But now I see Huth is about to drop in value, and I'm struggling to allow that to happen! I was hoping I'd have a week or two to worry about that.

    Curse my early TV focus!!!

Why get rid of Richards? He's doing fine for a base 4.5

No need to worry about Huth either

      1. Jøssy ⭐
        • 9 Years

No need to worry about Huth in what respect? I wouldn't be as keen to draft him out if he wasn't gonna drop in value. But Sherwood defenders are never going to be strong options and there are better ones out there... such as Francis.

The issue I have, is that I drafted Richards and Guzan in as make-weights to a GW3 WC, with a specific plan of a Bench Boost in GW4 when al my cheap bench defenders would have great fixtures (notably AVL v SUN). I bailed on this idea (very wisely) as I realised home teams were not keeping clean sheets, or even winning, their "easy" games. But now I'm stuck with a double-up on Villa defensively. Not good!

I'm playing two big defenders, with a three-way rotation for 3rd spot:

        Kolorov, Azpilicueta, Gomez, Huth, Richards

And with Azpilicueta barely keeping a clean sheet I need to ensure my 3-way rotation is stronger.

    My benching dilemma

I currently have Hoolahan, Williams and Bellerin and McCarthy benched in that order.

    Butland
    Gomez | Kolarov | Richards
    Sanchez | Mahrez | Silva | Payet
    Benteke (C) | Wilson | Aguero

Is that the bench to have this GW?

Is it time to get rid of Sanchez? Even though his underlying stats are good... Arsenal don't have the best fixtures and he just isn't getting the returns.

I'm posing the question having looked at Chelsea's up-coming fixtures (after the Arsenal game) and not being a Pedro owner worries me... even with Chelsea acquiring points as fast as old people fu**.. ahem... copulate...

I'm planning on downgrading - given that so many cheaper options are firing now what is the point waiting for him to "explode"?

But not for anything in a Chelsea shirt.

        Who you looking at instead?

I've already got Mahrez, Silva, Hoolahan, Payet.... The only one that seems in contention is Ayew but having Gomis as well, I'm not 100% on doubling up...

Have Ayew and very happy with him and Gomis for now. I probably want to do sanchez to Payet given the damage he did to me last night, but will wait till after Man City.

Otherwise Barkley is tearing it up - form over fixtures.

I don't worry about doubling up by the way - IF you think Swansea will do well, no reason not to get two attackers.

Barkley is a good shout for form, but the fixtures are a bit a of a concern.
