FIFFSA – Five-a-side World Cup Update

Welcome to the latest update on the FIFFSA Five-A-Side World Cup. We are delighted to announce we already have 41 complete teams and nine more managers actively recruiting. This is a really impressive turn out already considering there are still two more weeks to sign up. We want to thank all of you for your participation and especially those who have already got in to the spirit of the tournament and have been making press conferences in the articles and making new gravatars for the occasion. The Tournament Format

As some of you have already been asking, we’d like to elaborate a bit on the tournament format, which we have previously said would follow a World Cup Format as closely as possible.

This means we want to stage a final 32 team World Cup in Thailand, staying true to this years amateur five-a-side World Cup’s location. To get to Thailand there will be a qualifying format not dissimilar to the FIFA World Cup’s qualifying process with qualifying groups and playoffs for best losers. The qualifying process will last between five and eight weeks to ensure that no teams leave the competition too early.

The exact format of the qualifying is yet to be worked out as the number of teams is still growing but we will finalise the process shortly after the registration deadline on November 11th.

How do the matches work?

The Five-A-Side World Cup is a tournament open to squads of six players, who will field a team of five players each week, with one player on the substitute’s bench. A team’s score each week will be the sum of the FPL scores of the five players the team fields.

Each week, teams will go head to head against another team and the team with the highest aggregate score will win that match.

Can I still join?

Anybody in the FFScout community with an official FPL team is eligible to join,Whether this is your first season or your tenth.

IF you want to join a team that is still recruiting, please check this spreadsheet to see which captains still have space and  then contact them either here on FFS or via email should you wish to join their nation.

For individuals who wish to participate in the tournament but not are unsure who you want to join, you can fill out this form for players looking for a team. Your details will then be included on our unaffiliated players list that will be passed to the team captains to recruit from. A post on this article may also attract the interest of a captain.

If you are interested in captaining your own nation, please email fiffsa.exec@gmail.com to confirm the nation’s availability and allow us to track team numbers. The countries to be represented will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis as captains volunteer themselves.

Once you have a team together, with at least five players but preferably six, you should fill out this form to register your squad.

For the new managers amongst us, FIFFSA have put together a brief guide on the captaincy role and what the job entails.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

As a final request, please do try and keep FIFFSA 5-A-Side chat to the comment sections of our articles.

Enjoy the tournament; this is the FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup. Accept no imitations.

The FIFFSA Executive Committee – President Sepp Balders, VP BabyB,  VP Jaffalicious!, VP Diva, VP Blue Lion and Secretary General Jerome Cheeseoid.

FPL is a simple game made complicated by double gameweek planners.

FIFFSA and Switzerland have been rocked by the recent defections. Fortunately for Diva he no longer needs to fall on his sword to make space for BSLOE Badger. But what is this the organisers are down to 5 men in the 11th hour?

Expect an emergency press conference later today and trust in the president.

mialJust to let you know there are still 47 names on the unaffiliated list. I have just cleared out any claimed players. If you are still on the list and should't be or have changed your mind please let me know.

If you would like to captain a side there is still time to do so. It should be easy enough to put together a team.

And captaining a team should not involve much work. See the guide in the link above for an idea of what is involved.

Press release from Team Finland: There has been a lot of speculation on the whereabouts of the Finnish national team in the last couple of days. As everyone probably have noticed, Team Finland never arrived in Rio for the friendlies. Solely because of the neccesity of acclimatisation, we`ve chosen a one week training camp on a small island outside Surathani, Thailand, called Koh Phangan. We`ve played a couple of friendlies against the locals, and are still unbeaten. The squad is fully fit and performing well every on every session. There has been some sunburn-related niggles, but nothing serious to report. Finally, there is no truth in the rumours speculating that some team members have attended full moon parties on this particular island. Our only focus is the ultimate preparation for the tournament. As well as getting our scuba diving licenses.

    - Jari Litmanen, Team Finland VC

    Hi guys,

As some people have been asking me about my FPL data pulling for the World Cup, I've made this viewable Google Sheet that can pull a players GW History, Chip History, Yearly History, Every Gameweek Starting XI, Gameweek Points (Live) and Gameweek Transfers (including hits)

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L2Xdx_1O_dx8lPkrh7PfffKSbWzY4xtiFxICcMf4usw/edit?usp=sharing

If you want to have a play around go to "File" -> "Make a copy...". This will make your own copy in your google drive that you can then edit.

    German press conference...

Team Germany arrived home to continue their pre tournament penalty taking training after a typically efficient performance against North Korea. A solid effort led by King Ozil and backed up by Jurgen Rukawa, Franz Zombieeaten, Lothar Skipdipper, Gerd Meghan and Karl-Heinz Dmhomag despatched the collection of Kim's back to their small island with tales suitably between their legs.

Karl-Heinz Dmhomag interviewed after the game said "Ze Koreans have been dealt with. Ze Germans need only reach second gear. Zere is much more to come"

Rumours in the North Korean press abound that they fielded a girls team but nobody in Brazil was being fooled by that collection of hastily thrown together dog haired wigs.

King Ozil told Die Zeit that "Football is a simple game. Many men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win".

The team now leaves for Thailand and their World Cup headquarters to begin acclimatisation.

"back to their small island with TALES suitably between their legs"

__________________-There are many different kinds of tales__________________

Tales of sorrow, tales of gust,
Tales of intrigue and tales of lust
And though I mention just a few
There's still too many there for you

For tales to you are but tails of dogs
Or the curly ones on piglet hogs
No doubt read between your legs
Eating out of date pies from Greggs

Your tales are fails like pulling tails
No balance on your rotten scales
As I read your howling bloomer
      Germany fails again in humour

Ah the German sense of humour is far too complex and high brow for the North Koreans. The play on words of tales between their legs inspired by the Korean's ability to spin many a tale in their national news clearly went over their heads. Quite like the numerous "metaphorical" goals that flew over their heads in crushing defeat.

Nice to see that you've a career in creative writing going though when the Korean team is knocked out early doors 😉

Team Zambia is recruiting for high caliber individuals to represent it in the upcoming FIFFSA world cup. If you can point to Zambia on a map, or more importantly, know what you're doing in FPL (will be forensically verified by an fpl dullard), you owe it to yourself to answer the call. Are you a chipolopolo?

The continued investigation into FIFFSA’s affairs in Switzerland had us all feeling uncomfortable. Diva had been forced to wear a cone around his head to prevent the incessant licking of his private area. A tell tale sign well known from when he plays poker with the rest of the dogs. President Balders had cut down to only one Bunga Bunga party per day. I found myself drinking heavily from the now slightly less well stocked bar.

Then the hammer blow came. The news that Jaffalicious and BabyB were both deserting.

How could things get any worse? With the the tournament looming on the horizon. Team Switzerland was in disarray. Forced to flee our nation and go on the run to avoid investigation. Fortunately we had picked up a sturdy extra man in BLOE Badger along the way.

Only Blue Lion seemed unaffected. He had a steely determination about him the kind which is forged through adversity. Not the soft lives that the rest of us enjoyed.

“We’re going to see the president” he said

“But I am here?” Responded Sepp Balders confused.

“Not you, the other president. He owes me.” Responded Blue Lion

So off we went baffled in our golf carts. BSLOE Badger seemed to be making a good recovery. He was starting to build some simple phrases and achieve some basic tasks. Just yesterday he had made a picture of his time in the cave using mud and twigs.

We followed Blue Lion around the island until we came to a large white building with wrought iron gates.

There were guards there, we drove straight up to them.

“We are here to see the president”

“Go straight through sir” They saluted.

“Strange” I murmured to BSLOE Badger. “Has Blue Lion been here before?”

We drove up the long drive to the white house ahead. There were flags flying and it was obvious this was the home of the President of the Seychelles.

Word had gone ahead of our arrival and we were ushered straight ahead.

“The president will see you immediately Mr Lion” said a guard saluting formally.

We walked on through glancing at the opulence surrounding us. Clearly this man knew how to live much like ourselves.

Straight ahead was a tall tanned man. With an easy look on his face as he clearly welcomed an old friend. It was President Jawain the 4th of the Seychelles

“Pleased to see you again Blue Lion” he said warmly “I haven’t seen you since “the incident”. Your friends need no introduction. Our nation has always been a friend to FIFFSA”

Talk of “the incident” intrigued me but I decided to let it slide. If they wanted it made known I am sure it will come out in time.

“I am already aware of your plight” he said confidently “I have people everywhere on my islands and i think I may be able to help”

“Firstly do you like the resort you are staying in?”

There was a chorus of approval

“It is yours, you now represent The Seychelles, FIFFSA can run from here”

“Secondly, how are your current banking arrangements?” I think you will find we can come to a very favourable arrangement”

Again positive murmurs came from throughout the group.

“Thirdly, I believe you are looking for a player?, how about me?I play hard and I play to win”

We had all heard of the mythical Wain’s Wonders and their top 10 finish in 2015 and we knew in one swoop this ravishingly handsome man had solved all of their problems.

Even Sepp forgot himself and his bank balance for a moment and said simply. “Thankyou”

The chase for the trophy could now begin.

    Typical Seychelles beliefs:

    - A Rooster that sings during the day, announces a visitor
    - Dropping a fork during dinner announces a male visitor, dropping a spoon announces a female visitor.
    - If you eat from the pot, it will rain on your wedding day.
    - Do not start a project on a Friday, you will surely fail.
    - Do not play with fire, you will wet your bed.
    - Do not give someone money through the window or you will be ruined.
    - Do not allow a baby to stare into a mirror, he/she will not grow teeth.
    - Do not lend your broom to anyone, it will rob you of your luck.
    - Do not count stars, you will get warts.

😀 The principal requirement of the captain is to send us a short email at the end of the week telling us who your bench player is that week. After that it just depends how much you and your team mates want to put into it.

"how much you and your team mates want to put into it." - this is the key here. I would imagine a captain should have a definitive and aspiring role in getting a healthy group discussion, making the final call, playing veto if needed, etc.

I'm Riquelme type of player. I don;t do discussions 😛

I don't normally ask these kinda questions but I have a strong front 8 as per a lot of people for this week and I'm unsure who to rest. Also dilemma with 2 defenders.

either MORGAN (v WAT) or FUCHS (v NEW)

MAHREZ (wat) BARKLEY (whu) SANCHEZ (tot) OZIL (tot) STERLING (ast)
    VARDY (wat) PELLE (sun)

As you might have heard, the Finnish team is on spectacular form, albeit against the locals. However, we wouldn't want this to go into our heads, especially seeing as we weren't in Brazil for the last round of friendlies. This week could be the perfect time for us to assess how we size up against more serious opponents. Our director of matches is back in Helsinki though, probably in a sauna with his laptop, but not to worry, I'm Skyping him right away so that he could get in touch with Team Malaysia and organize a friendly with you guys. We're very much up for it 🙂
