Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 11

The Suspension Tightrope claimed a new victim this week as United’s Matteo Darmian earned his fifth yellow card of the campaign in yesterday’s goalless draw at Selhurst Park. Owned by 18% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, the Italian now misses the home clash against West Brom and with Antonio Valencia still injured, Louis van Gaal has decisions to make at right back.

The Tightrope welcomed four new faces over the weekend, with 14 players now standing just one caution away from a single-match ban. Palace playmaker Yohan Cabaye, Swansea skipper Ashley Williams, Watford’s raiding right-back Allan Nyom and Liverpool midfielder Lucas are the latest recruits. The latter was perhaps a little fortunate not to earn a second yellow in the 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge after a foul on Ramires resulted in no more than a warning and proved a major post-match talking point.

Whilst Jose Mourinho was reluctant to comment for fear of FA disciplinary measures, Lucas, unsurprisingly, commended whistler Marc Clattenburg’s decision not to send him packing:

”They [Chelsea] will probably talk about it, it’s normal especially when you lose a game. The first three fouls in the first 10 minutes of the game probably were just fouls that maybe wouldn’t be a yellow card. Sometimes in my position you make fouls but more to stop the game and I think it was a good decision from the referee. He controlled the game very well, all the situations with the Chelsea players I think he dealt with it really well and I think it was a fair game.”

In terms of other new suspensions, Norwich will be without skipper Russell Martin for the Gameweek 12 home encounter against Swansea. The versatile defender was dismissed at City for denying a goal scoring opportunity – his handball in the box handed the hosts their first penalty.

Southampton will be devoid of Victor Wanyama’s services for next weekend’s trip to Sunderland. The Kenyan international avoided climbing onto the Tightrope after he was dismissed for collecting two bookings in this afternoon’s home win over Bournemouth – instead, he remains on three yellows and has been handed a one-match ban, thus returning in time for the Gameweek 13 clash against Stoke.

West Ham’s James Collins is set for a three-match ban after being dismissed for violent conduct during yesterday’s surprise loss to Watford as Slaven Bilic’s side lost for the first time on their travels this term.

After qualifying for the Europa League due to their fair play record, the Hammers have now received four red cards in the first 11 Gameweeks under their new manager, with Mark Noble (rescinded), Carl Jenkinson and Adrian the other parties concerned.

Bizarrely, this was the eighth red in just 11 Premier League matches involving West Ham. There has now been a sending off in each of their last four league outings, with Sunderland’s Jeremain Lens, Palace’s Dwight Gayle and Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic all seeing red in the three fixtures prior to yesterday’s trip to Vicarage Road. Taking all competitions into account, there has been 12 red cards flashed over West Ham’s 18 fixtures with Bilic at the helm – the London club have been culpable on seven of those occasions.

Finally, reports this evening suggest Diego Costa could be set to escape retrospective action following another spat with nemesis Martin Skrtel. The Chelsea striker appeared to dig a boot into the Slovakian’s chest after both fell to the ground during the Reds’ 3-1 win but it’s believed that referee Clattenburg saw the incident and decided to take no further action.

Given that Costa has already served a three-match ban this season, this will be a huge relief for the under-fire Jose Mourinho if confirmed. Taking his previous ban into account, another stint on the sidelines for violent conduct would have earned Costa a four-match suspension this time around and forced him out of the upcoming league matches against Stoke, Norwich, Spurs and Bournemouth.

Waste of a transfer this week bringing in Barkley for Westwood. No involvement in 6 goals means I'm considering him straight out for Ozil - sensible move? I have the exact funds.

    Rest of the team:

    DDG, Butland,
    Azpi, Cedric, Kolarov, Nyom, Targett
    Sanchez, Mahrez, Ayew, KDB, Barkley
    Bony, Pelle, Vardy

I was also pondering the same transfer. With Arsenal scoring 3 goals a game in consistent basis and Ozil being heavily involved, this move would suit both short & long term.

Yeah I know it's a knee jerk move but no involvement in 6 goals is seriously worrying for Barkley. Am I right that he played deeper with Lukaku in the number 10 role behind Kone?

I only brought Kane in this week (in a toss up with Lukaku), and though it may prove to be the wrong move, it'd feel too knee-jerky to ditch immediately - particularly planning it before Kane has even played.

Baines is back in training, so although he may not be match fit yet, I'd guess Galloway may only have 1 more certain game. Likely to be dropped after internationals.

We have, our lack of depth in defence has been exposed slightly - we were quite lucky that Sunderland were so awful yesterday, because we looked shaky at the back. Should be much better when Baines and Jagielka are back.

Yeah, agreed. You were real light at the back, fortunately Mori is not really bad and Stones can stay injury free (what a season he's having). Big fan of him.

Really different situation upfront; all of them been firing this season, including Naismith.

Mirallas looks like a lost cause tho.

He is not consistent at all. He just pops up with scores randomly. I think I'd get Ozil for sure. He does have good fixtures but they scored 6 against Sunderland and he got nothing

Exactly, does not get into box as well and most of the shots are from out of the box.

            Cheers for reply.

For those of whom I asked opinions last week.

I played my Bench boost this week. Got me 18 points extra but that included 15 from a benched Mahrez.

If I'd have played AOA with Korolov benched for Mahrez I'd have been better off with only 4 points less and still have my Bench Boost but I have 80 points this week so far with Toby to play and just hit the overall top 3k!

Should have played your AOA so.

Would you really have benched Kolarov?

I was considering using my AOA but I played Koscielny instead, who got like 15 points, so Mahrez on the bench wasn't too ahrd to take. I would have played Kolarov all day long anyway, if he'd scored the peno it'd be a different story.

You didn't fluke your BB, but it would very likely have been better spend in a DGW, even with hits to get the correct players in

I figure theres only two DGW ops and thats gonna be used for more attacking players and a triple captain from a heavy hitter so I'm not ruing the loss of bench boost too much.

Decent bench booat. No one would have benched Kolarov at home against Norwich

    Benching issues here as well:
    Bellerin TOT
    VVD sun
    ---
    A Dawson mun
    B Williams nor
    C Ward liv

I thought this was an easy Williams, but looking at how bad United are at scoring; Dawson pops up on the radar.

Lottery who out of A B and C are gonna get >2 points.
Dawson highest chance of CS, but lowest of attacking points.
        Ward opposite of Dawson.
Who knows with Williams. He is prime for a YC at least. Swansea could get a CS if they get an early goal, and shut down

average gameweek but better then my cash rival so not too worried. Richards left to go this evening but expecting 0 from that.

Thinking of putting in Simpson for Richards or Francis, good move or should I be looking at something else?

    Bego / Mccarthy

    Willaims / Bellerin / Kolarov / Richards / Francis

    Sanchez / Mane / KDB / Mahrez / Westwood

    Bony / Pelle / Lukaku

Richards >> Simpson and (next GW) Williams >> Toby gives you +0.4 ITB.
I'd to the Richards >> Toby this weekend as step one to fixing your defense

    Butland (Gomes)
    Bellerin Dawson Moreno (Francis Targett)
    Sanchez KDB Payet Mahrez (Westwood)
    Pelle Vardy Ighalo

I've already used my FT this week
I still have 7.5m left in the bank, is it worth upgrading westwood to Barkley or even Ozil for a hit, or should I save the money till aguero comes back

    2FT, 3.2M ITB

    Gomes
Bellerin - Cedric - Jones (UTD)
    Mane - Sanchez - KdB - Ayew
    Vardy - Pelle - Lukaku

Bench: Souare - Simpson - Ben Watson

    A) Ayew + Watson > Mahrez + Ozil
    B) Gomes +Watson > de Gea + Mahrez
    C) Gomes > de Gea
    D) Ayew > Ozil
    E) Save

Worth saving my FT here or getting Moreno/VVD?

    Vardy, Lukaku

    Lloris, Ayoze, Gabriel, Morgan 1ft

Yeah I'll be downgrading Lloris for Aguero funds. Just thinking should I do that as part of two free transfers next GW? Or use my FT on either transferring Lloris out or Zouma/Gabriel. At least Zouma is playing. Could have done with that Arsenal cs this week

Who though I want to get Gabriel out because of rotation. Followed by Zouma. And also need to Downgrade Lloris soon for Aguero funds. This week seems ok though.
