Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 12

Tottenham’s Erik Lamela become the latest player to topple off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth caution of the campaign during this afternoon’s north London derby at the Emirates. The in-form Argentine – whose absence could pave the way for fit-again Heung Min-Son to stake a claim for a starting berth – misses Spurs’ upcoming home match-up against West Ham United but will be available when Chelsea roll up to White Hart Lane in Gameweek 14.

With five new arrivals over the weekend’s fixtures, the Suspension Tightrope is drawing quite the crowd – there’s now an 18-strong band of wrongdoers on four bookings as we head into the international break.

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle is certainly the most pertinent of the new recruits from a Fantasy perspective. The Saints’ leading marksman currently sits at a hefty 34% ownership – having bagged four goals and as many assists in seven starts – and will be wary of committing further indiscretions ahead of a home tie against Aston Villa in Gameweek 15.

The Italian was joined by James McCarthy, Chris Brunt, Glenn Whelan and Cheick Tiote. The Newcastle enforcer has now chalked up more yellow cards (53) than any player in the Premier League since he made the switch to St James’ Park in August 2010.

In terms of new bans, West Brom defender Gareth McAuley received his marching orders for denying Anthony Martial a clear goal scoring opportunity at Old Trafford, making him the only recipient of a red card throughout the weekend. The Northern Ireland international has been handed a one-match suspension and misses out when Arsenal pay visit after the international break, returning for a trip to West Ham in Gameweek 14.

After the 2-0 defeat, Baggies boss Tony Pulis was somewhat critical of the centre-half and acknowledged McAuley’s challenge left referee Mike Dean with little alternative:

“Gareth McAuley (for the red card and penalty) should have stayed on his feet and if the kid scores the kid scores…It’s difficult for Mike. You could feel, with a couple of minutes to go, that he might look at it differently. But the letter of the law says that if he’s last man and he brings him down he has to send him off.”

Aside from McAuley, James Collins is the only other player serving out a suspension during the next round of fixtures. The Hammers’ seasoned centre-back has two fixtures remaining on his three-match ban, ruling him out of a road tie against Tottenham Hotspur and a home clash against West Brom. With Winston Reid back in the frame, however, it’s unlikely that Collins will reclaim a starting berth upon his return.

United’s Matteo Darmian is now available for the upcoming trip to Watford after he fell off last week’s Tightrope. Norwich skipper Russell Martin and Southampton’s Victor Wanyama are both back in contention after they were dismissed during last week’s matches.

As always, mainly thanks to our resident Tightrope expert Anorak, who has been keeping us up-to-date via his twitter stream.

Bony or Pelle out for Kane?

On Bony atm, although Pelle hasn't been great Wilfried has been stale. In an ideal world would have Lukaku too but fixture-wise I'm leaning towards Kane in this Poch setup. A more clinical finisher who you'd expect to outscore Lukaku from now until end of the season.

      Also...

      Villa (H)
      Bournemouth (A)

In Everton's next two is likely to be much harder fought contests than people would assume. Villa had time to further solidify and regroup over int. break under new manager and Bournemouth improving every week in desperation for that elusive win. Playing better than results suggest.

    Early thoughts on this lot?

    de Gea Hennessey
Kolarov Bellerín Moreno van Dijk Simpson
Surman De Bruyne Sánchez Payet Mané
    Pellè Kane Vardy

2 FT, £0.6m in the bank.

Main issues are Mane, Payet and Pelle

What do we know about Mane international games. The last time there was a huge discussion about him not playing in the league after Africa trips. Maybe it is safe to get rid of him not Payet unless Payet is confirmed injured.

That's true. If Payet's injury looks like it'll keep him out for a couple of weeks than he's the first to go in my opinion.

I have same keepers & defenders except Sagna instead of Kolorov
I also have Mane and wish I hadn't but I'd be shipped Pelle first.
Depends on Payet fitness but perhaps Pelle & Payet to Ozil & Lukaku

You and me have the same issue which is Kolarov game time. Clichy is due to start. Transfer out Kolarov and one between Pelle and Mane to get the $$$ to buy Aguero on gw14. This is what I would do. I can't suggest any transfer options as I don't have any clue now. Wait till the International games are done then we start thinking.

Depends what you are looking for... Saving money or playable defender. If saving money Bennet and Simpson. If quite reliable option maybe Ake or Wollsheid.

Wolly @ 4.3 is looking appealing. Any issues going forward with Wolly?

He is in quite good shape, at least he played well against Chelsea. I'm afraid it is not a type of offensive threat. You have to rely on his CS. Excluding City in few weeks time their fixtures may be not so bad.

A few musings again from the world of Junior football management.

The first week of November and in the North West of England our first batch of postponed games due to flooded pitches...

It's not just another wasted weekend for me and the lads from my team but it means those pitches will no longer be fit for purpose until the spring. Forget about any notion of a passing game or tekkers from the lads, from here on in it's now all about slogging in the mud and rutted wobbly pitches for months on end in the freezing cold and rain...or at least for the games we actually get to play...which won't be many.

Just by coincidence I rang one of my relatives in Washington state over the weekend who told me her son's junior football league was just about to finish for the season and wouldn't start again until spring...

Mmmmm....I know which one has got it right...and it's not us...

Been saying something similar about Irish leagues for years. Summer leagues really are quite simple to sort out, and I do some solo training down in my local park 2/3 days a week over Summer, all pitches always empty. Such a waste.

The good folk of the South East have no idea how bad the weather can be for Ireland, N Wales, Northern England and Scotland....It's a joke at times trying to play a football league in our conditions...

          • 14 Years

Aye, it is an absolute joke, and very frustrating. I recall a couple of years back working really hard to win the ball back and beat a couple of men, knocked the ball ahead a bit to run onto it and wound up entirely jammed in the mud, as in frozen to the spot while I watched the ball roll away and the defender collect it nice and easy 😛

Even now in the college set up where there are numerous artificial/composite all weather pitches they still get too flooded to play on.

At least you can actually play football on artificial once they have drained. On grass piches they do sometimes drain but the pitch is left like a farmers field....Rubbish...

With you there, it has made a world of difference to me.

But I had years before it in those exact conditions, Gaelic, Hurling and Football, and really some days were just utter misery looking back on it. Farmers field is a great way to describe it, and when the Brent Geese arrive the mounds of poo compound the desire to be anywhere else.

We might not get it as bad, but we still get it bad too. My Uni's top 4 teams play on a 3G pitch to avoid such horrible football, I feel bad for the 5th-8th XIs though.

We do quite a few five a side tournaments throughout the summer at various festivals and events...The kids and parents love it...That's the time we should play our leagues.

yep, played for 20 seasons, slipping and a sliding around wet, frozen pitches.
It just seemed normal back then but the a change to summer seasons for junior football in Britain/ Ireland looks a no-brainer.

By the time kids are 14 or 15 years old a lot start to pack in because they really can't be arsed getting up at 8.00am to get to a mud bath of a pitch for 10.00 am in the freezing cold and rain...and I don't blame them...

Hah, made me remember back to my days.
3 ponds - one in each goalmouth and one in the center circle seperated by 2 quagmire mudbaths, happy days.
Of course we did play on a lot of ash or gravel pitches and you know what they did to your legs.

            WRONG.
+ this is also utter nonsense.

Wilshere was doing it to the away fans.

Disagreeing with officials happens dozens of times every game. If FA suddenly declare you get banned for saying FO towards an official the pitches will be empty next game week.

Besides the FA rule is if an official saw the action then the FA can not take retrospective action. Most definitely the Linesman saw that.

Bony's injury is annoying. It leaves me wondering whether to switch him now to Lukaku for a couple of weeks (basically until Agüero is definitely fit for that forward berth), or hold Bony for now in the hope either he or Agüero is fit to start the next game (if the latter, I would switch Bony to Agüero later this gameweek).

Thanks but if I ship him to Lukaku I'll need to make another transfer to get Agüero in - if Agüero is fit to start the next game it would make sense to make the swap immediately. But I won't know for two weeks, by which time Lukaku will be .2 more expensive probably.

It's more about managing my free transfers. I don't need Aguero immediately, but I will want him by GW15 probably (if fit). In the meantime I have Payet, who may be out for a while, Vardy, who could get a ban, Williams, who needs to go, and Ayew, whose time is done, not to mention Mane and Sanchez, who have done nothing for a while. Bony to Lukaku means another FT will be used to bring in Aguero which could be useful elsewhere.

Another damned, faking, stupid, idiotic, awful international break.

Can't those UEFA mafiozes just put this sh1t when season is over? I want to watch PL.

Wish I could give this a few more +1s. International breaks are literally the worst.

I mean, PL is a meaning of football and watching any other football after PL is awful.

You can't imagine how frustrated I am when there are int. breaks or when there is no early kick off and games at 17:30, 13:30 or 16:00.

The internation break is even worse coming of the back of a shocking score just want to get back out there and get a good score

Ok, so this is a bit tough-play Williams (BOU Home) or Kolarov (LIV Home). I have no idea what Swansea side we will see after the break. Replies appreciated.

Arsenal's next 4: wba, nor, SUN, avl and people want to sell Sanchez for Aguero money? Madness.

    Any thoughts? 🙂

    KDB---->Ozil
    Bony--->Lukaku

2FTs. I know its early, but I'd really like to catch the price rises. TV is horrendous.

I like them both if you're not concerned about Aguero for next week.

I'm planning on waiting until he looks likely to start/get the full 90. Hopefully, just in time for stoke. Praying he doesn't hurt me too much until then. Gives me time to prepare for his arrival as well. 🙂

        Cheers

Do you have Payet? Lose him instead if so. Three tough fixtures but looks like he's going to be out for a while injured anyway.

I'm guessing people arent doing Pelle > Lukaku right now?

As there are 2 weeks until next game and there may be injuries to come
