The Digest – Gameweek 12

Romelu Lukaku’s ascent up the Fantasy standings brings the Everton forward onto many a radar ahead of some kind upcoming matches. Palace find their form at Anfield, whilst Sergio Aguero’s imminent return is set to have a major say in our winter planning.

The Player

There was almost an air of inevitability about Romelu Lukaku’s leveler at Upton Park last Saturday.

The Everton striker does, after all, love playing against the Hammers. Lukaku had netted six times in as many matches against the London outfit prior to the weekend and delivered the goods yet again, bagging a goal and two bonus points to climb to second in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forward standings.

Encouragingly for Roberto Martinez and Fantasy managers alike, the Belgian international seems to have developed some consistency to his top-flight displays in recent outings. Lukaku produced points in just two of his first six matches but has since blanked just twice in the subsequent six – only United and Arsenal have kept him at bay.

Already, he’s closing in fast on the previous year’s attacking returns. Lukaku has scored seven times – only three less than 2014/15 – whilst his tally of four assists is edging towards last term’s six.

One look at the next seven Gameweeks (AVL, bou, CPL, nor, LEI, new, STO) underlines just why he’s the most sought-after striker in FPL this week. Over 67,000 managers have acquired Lukaku’s services since that Upton Park strike and with his confidence on the up, the Belgian’s perfect blend of form and fixtures is looking hard to resist.

The Team

A 2-1 win at Anfield on Sunday brought Jurgen Klopp back down to earth as Palace chalked up a third straight victory against a resurgent Liverpool outfit.

Ahead of back-to-back home matches against Sunderland and Newcastle, Alan Pardew’s side served a timely reminder of their options at both ends of the pitch.

The 4.0-priced Wayne Hennessey continues to look secure between the sticks and with Joel Ward benched for the Anfield clash, Scott Dann showed just why he’s the priciest defender at Selhurst Park. The centre-half bagged a second goal of the season to climb to fifth in the defender standings – only Aleksandar Kolarov has earned more bonus points (11 to nine) at the back than the 5.1-priced Eagles centre-half.

Yannick Bolasie’s second goal in the last five also brings him back onto our radars. Handed a role up top against the Reds, the DR Congo international’s appeal is boosted by the fact that Yohan Cabaye and Wilfried Zaha are teetering on the Suspension Tightrope, with four yellow cards apiece.

Connor Wickham’s return off the bench also bodes well for Palace’s attacking midfield three, with the former Sunderland man offering a real physical focal point up front. There’s no doubt that the Eagles have toiled without Wickham’s presence in the final third – they won 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in his last start and had scored just four times in seven matches prior to their weekend win.

If Sunday’s showing is anything to go by, then, it seems that the Eagles are starting to finally return to form in time to take advantage of a kind upcoming schedule which also hands them clashes against the likes of Everton, Stoke and Bournemouth in the next six rounds of fixtures.

The Talking Point

After seeing his side fail to find a way past Villa last Sunday, Manuel Pellegrini sent Fantasy managers’ plans into overdrive by revealing that Sergio Aguero could be in line for a Gameweek 13 return against Liverpool.

Only yesterday, the Argentine’s tweet on his recovery from a hamstring injury afforded further reason for optimism as we prepare to welcome him back into the fray.

Since Aguero limped out of action in the previous international break, most of us have restructured our squads and used the money to strengthen our attacks. Plenty have opted for eight strong options in midfield and up front, leaving us weekly headaches when it comes to decide who to bench. Aguero’s return could change all that as we look for ways to free up cash to acquire his services.

Yesterday’s confirmation that Dimitri Payet will be sidelined for around three months will be seen by many as the first step in restructuring, with the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Gerard Deulofeu offering cut-price alternatives to the Hammers playmaker. Furthermore, Mesut Ozil – at 8.8 – is challenging the 11.6-priced Alexis Sanchez as our go-to Arsenal option, having delivered points in eight of his 11 appearances. In a season where the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and Odion Ighalo all offer exceptional value for money, finding a route back to Aguero shouldn’t be too difficult.

The question for most, though, is when to make the move? Much could depend on the City situation. Given that Wilfried Bony limped off on 24 minutes at Villa Park, the league leaders currently boast youngster Kelechi Iheanacho as their only fully-fit striker. If Bony is ruled out for any length of time, Pellegrini will certainly be tempted to call upon Aguero quicker than he previously anticipated as he looks to reignite his side’s title bid.

In saying that, there’s no doubt that Pellegrini will court caution with his star striker’s fitness and it’s unlikely Aguero will be afforded 90-minute run outs on his immediate return.

Having signed off for domestic duties with a five-goal haul against Newcastle in just 64 minutes back in Gameweek 8, though, Aguero’s explosive potential looms large. Down in price to 13.0, owned by just 10% of FPL managers, he now has four home matches in the next six. If he’s passed fit for the Liverpool encounter, dare we go without him?

Has anyone here ever been to Sicily? Looking at it as a holiday destination for next summer, wondering what the best places to stay may be.

Also open to any other destination suggestions, just heard great things about Sicily.

Sardinia has really nice beaches if that's your thing and a few old Mediterranean towns, but not a huge amount else. I've been to Alghero before which was nice.

I've also been to Trapani in western Sicily before, which also has nice beaches but with a bit more history, with more old towns and also some big Greek temples scattered around. Also visited Palermo while we were there which is a big historical city. Ryanair fly very cheaply to Trapani, which was part of the attraction. Eastern Sicily probably has even more history and Mt Etna.

I've been to Barcelona and absolutely adore it, it's very tempting but I'll probably look at somewhere I've not been before. San Sebastian is on my list of potentials, bit of a headache to get to I think (couldn't find any direct flights from London) but it looks beautiful (and it's a place I've always wanted to go primarily for the food).

why lukaku, just because of fixtures and form? What if it only takes aguero a couple games to get back into fitness, he must still be feeling confident from his last match, as soon as his fit he'll be dangerous imo.

No, friday afternoon after the pressers. We all know Payet is injured, but anything can happen with the replacement in the next 2 weeks.

What do you mean it's strange? What if his main centre forward gets injured? Or he loses a GK as well? Then at the very least he may prioritise a different transfer if he can afford to bench Payet for a week? Or he'll have loads more money as part of a 2 transfer strategy and choose another pair altogether.

            1) He might well be, but he won't be rotated for a few weeks at the very least with his current form.
            2) At that price your either going to get a defensive midfielder who will go about picking up 2 /3 points or someone who may well get rotated but can deliver attacking returns, I personally prefer the latter.

Is Lingard going to be dropped the next game? I don't see why. He's practically playing as a forward. If he scores he can make a heap of cash. If dropped easily dealt with because ownership so low. It's a no brainer for me

Well, with these injuries coming thick and fast, I think I'll be forced to use my FTs rather than by my choice. So I guess, I need some help here.

      Team currently looks like.

      Butland, Ruddy,
van Dijk, Dawson, Janmaat, Nyom, Huth,
Sanchez, de Bruyne, Mahrez, Payet, Westwood,
      Kane, Pelle, Vardy.

Thankfully, have 2 FT and have £3.7m in the bank.

So, Payet out has to be one of the transfers, but I am reluctant to get Ozil because I have Sanchez, and would rather downgrade, because of the Aguero factor. The options I am looking at are Willian, Bolasie and even Deufoleu.

Other than that, I am keen to keep Kane and Pelle for another week, though I really want Lukaku for sure, though. What would you do there?

Finally, I want to get rid of Dawson, for a defender below £5.5m. Rojo maybe, but he is on 4 yellows? Also, feel United are likely to concede one soon.

      Cheers for the help. 🙂

        Hi Saniul!

I think you'd have to lose Kane by the time Aguero is back anyway, I have him and my team's setup in a way that'd enable me to keep both Kane and Aguero.

What's your TV? It looks a bit low to me.

I'd recommend Rojo, I got him and was very pleased to get a CS out of him immediately, also maybe an Arsenal defender if you can push your budget up? Great fixtures still.

        1. Saniul
          • 11 Years
          8 years, 7 months ago

My TV is £104.1m, I am never an early-transfer guy, so suits me that way.

And as for Kane, I never had him marked as someone I would keep for long, when I got him in GW11. But 5 goals in 3 games, a captain hattrick, obviously I am reluctant to sell now. Would you simply do Pelle to Lukaku then?

What would you think about a Payet replacement?

          1. AK ⭐
            • 11 Years
            8 years, 7 months ago

I have a TV of 104.0 myself and I wait it out until Fridays to do my transfers. So I can relate.

Pelle is the obvious one, his conversion rate has always been pretty low, at least if you compare it with the League average. Could go either way this week, but Stoke are in some form now.

As for Payet, I'd have my eyes on Ozil or Mata. United have some decent looking fixtures and although they aren't really scoring at all, I think they'll be in the goals in the next 5 and Mata has been involved this season. Ozil is killing it this season too, don't know how long we could go without him

1FT? If so it depends if you want to bring in Aguero soon. Then get a cheap bench player for Payet and bring in Kun for either Lukaku or Vardy.

      Hi all

Stephen Davis at Southampton - has he been picked because someone else has been injured, or is he first choice now?

      Thanks!

He has been one of their most important and most played player since they got promoted, plays at a couple of positions, but a very important player. I would say he's nailed on.

Apologies for the basic question but can anyone explain how/when price freezes occur due to injuries? Ie will Payet become price protected, have had a fair old look around and can't find the answer? In advance my thanks

4.5k have transferred Aguero in for GW13. He will rise 0.1 before he's confirmed fit to play GW13!!!

This is complete lunacy from managers!

4.5k and we're only on the 2nd day of the international break. I would say he will rise at this rate.

It wont be 4.5k per day for the whole international break, activity is generally busier at the start and at the end of the break.

Those that still have there WC, are you playing it now, or waiting till after the City/Pool game to see more of Kun?

Ok, this probably isn't the best time to be asking this question because I know Lukaku is hot property given his current form and decent upcoming fixtures... I would ask you to look past that and try and be objective - The long and short of it is I'm in a draft league.

Who would you prefer to have from now until the rest of the season?

      A - Anthony Martial
      B - Romelu Lukaku

      Thanks in advance!

Romelu Lukaku, absolutely. Atleast he is nailed on for the season, and his position is nailed too.
Martial is a 19 year old, and at the rate he's playing games, is prone to a burnout like Sterling had couple of seasons ago.

        Got to be B.

Nailed on, main striker for the team, not playing in Europe at all and isn't shy from taking shots away.

A player who we can guarantee will disapoint us when we least expect it (or maybe we do nowadays) with the potential for a large haul over the season vs a player who will often be played not in his best position over the season. Gotta be Lucky Luke....

I ask because scoring is different on fantrax.

I may have to go against the grain and say that I wouldn't want to lose Martial if that's who you own. Its a tricky one though
Utd fixtures just as good and I only see Utd improving attacking wise and Martial will be at the heart of that. Lukaku is notoriously inconsistent, despite his good start to the season.

I think if you ask the a me question in a month the answers would be very different because Lukaku is the man in form. People say Lukaku as they are transferring him in at the moment, but as someone who plays in 4 different draft leagues, I would be wary.

all of them. Lukaku has plagued me for the last two seasons but can't knock his current form and fixtures coming up. Team now stands at

              Hart
Kolarov - Van Dijk - Smalling
              Ozil - KDB - Sanchez - Cabaye - Mahrez
              Vardy - Lukaku

              Igloo - Dann - Williams
