FA Cup Scout Notes – Fourth Round – Sunday

Oscar hits a hat-trick and Eden Hazard breaks his goalless streak as Chelsea thrash MK Dons to set up an FA Cup Fifth Round clash with Man City. Elsewhere, Ross Barkley grabs another cup goal and Aaron Lennon weighs in with a goal and assist as Everton breeze past Carlisle.

Oscar treble eases Blues through

Chelsea put on a dominant attacking display as they ran out 5-1 victors over Milton Keynes Dons. Oscar scooped the match ball with a hat-trick, while Eden Hazard netted his first goal in 29 outings from the penalty spot and claimed an assist. Oscar piques our interest as a differential route into the Blues’ resurgent offense ahead of a trip to Watford, but Hazard remains a peripheral concern in light of his dreadful form.

After the match, Guus Hiddink boosted the Brazilian’s Fantasy potential by confirming he is the club’s number one for penalties:

“We have a hierarchy of penalty takers, with Oscar first, but they gave it to him (Hazard) and it’s good he scored. He’s coming back now after a long absence and he needs the rhythm of these games. He played more than an hour and it’s important for the upcoming multitude of games.’

Passed fit following the knee issue he sustained against Arsenal, Diego Costa earned an assist during his 57-minute stint. Willian joined the action in the 64th minute but suffered a late knock, rendering him a doubt for the Hornets encounter, according to Hiddink:

“I was worried a bit, someone stepped on his foot, but I asked him and he said it is no big worries. But we have to see in the upcoming time because we are playing a lot of games and I hope he will recover in two days.”

Meanwhile, Pedro was afforded a second-half cameo on his return from illness. On the rotation front, Kurt Zouma dropped out for Gary Cahill, and Cesar Azpilicueta was usurped by Baba Rahman.

Rounding off the key contributors to Chelsea’s triumph, Burkina Faso international Bertrand Traore etched his name onto the scoresheet. Elsewhere, Cesc Fabregas and Ruben Loftus-Cheek bagged an assist apiece.

Barkley strikes again in Toffees victory

Everton coasted through to the fifth round – booking a trip to Bournemouth – courtesy of a 3-0 win at Carlisle. The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Gerard Deulofeu were unused substitutes, but Ross Barkley was named among the starters and went on to net the Toffees’ third goal. The 7.3-priced midfielder hasn’t scored in a league since Gameweek 14 but, having notched in the midweek Capital One Cup loss to City, now boasts two goals in as many cup outings over the past week, augmenting his appeal at a time when Everton’s schedule looks promising (NEW, sto, WBA). That being said, their blank in Gameweek 27 deters investment in any of their Fantasy assets.

After Kevin Mirallas failed a late fitness test because of a knee knock, Aaron Lennon and Steven Pienaar were tasked with providing the width. The former grabbed a goal and assist, boosting his chances of more league starts. Arouna Kone – who’s fallen down the pecking order and played in just three of the Merseysiders’ previous four league ties – notched the other goal, while Leon Osman and Bryan Oviedo popped up with assists.

Is E. Valencia likely to stay nailed even with the returns of Sakho, Carroll and Lanzini?
If not, can anyone identify first choice when everyone is fit?

Arsène Wenger has revealed the latest team news ahead of the Southampton game on Tuesday night:

    - on the team news
The team news is that we have all the players that played on Saturday available again. The only problem we have is that we lost Rosicky through injury. We have to assess one or two. Overall the situation looks quite good for everybody else.

    - on Tomas Rosicky
He has a thigh problem - a muscular tendon problem, but we don’t know how bad it is. It happened three or four minutes after he came on and we have to assess him today. He’s not available for a while. We will know much more tonight.

    - on Jack Wilshere
He is looking good. I had a short chat with Roy Hodgson about him and reassured him that he is progressing well. I’m cautious but I will say four weeks [until he is back].

    - on Danny Welbeck
Danny has not played since April 2015 and will have to go through a game or two with the under-21s, where we can monitor him and leave him free to play at his level of commitment. That looks to be very soon, maybe this week.

    - on Mathieu Debuchy
Debuchy [leaving] is also a possibility. It will be a loan to a Premier League team because it’s impossible to conclude a permanent move now. At the moment it doesn’t look likely but it is still a possibility.

    - on Serge Gnabry
Serge will go to the Championship but we have to decide where today. I know approximately but I wouldn’t like to make a wrong announcement. It’s between two clubs and I want to give him some competition because he didn’t play at West Brom. It will be like what I did with Francis Coquelin last year and, if possible, I might call him back after.

So several interesting striker options are now available.

Doumbia, Afobe, Naismith in NOW and also Austin.

Cheap guys who can bring in some good points. Will be even harder to choose 3 fowards.

But for differential u must think and make some changes. Heck i have costa in and he scores when Lukaku hasent, very good differential.

It will be hard, but i lean into Austin and Doumbia side, depends on Doumbia price also.

    Question regarding GW30

    Only guaranteed games in GW30:

    Stoke-Southampton
    Leicester-Newcastle
    Bournemouth-Swansea (most likely) or Sunderland-Everton

Which players do you fancy from these teams?

    Players on my watchlist are:

Stoke: Butland, Stoke def, Arnie, Shaqiri
    Saints: Saints def, Austin
    Leicester: Simpson, Mahrez, Vardy
    Newcastle: none/Wijnaldum(?)
    Bournemouth: Daniels
    Swansea: Williams, Ayew

Any thoughts regarding how many players you want for this week only without destroying your team for the weeks before and after?

I'll try to field 11 bang on but if I get 9 or 10 I'll be happy. Assuming Bournemouth and Swansea play

Current players: Simpson, Mahrez, Vardy, Daniels, Gosling, Williams

I'll be bringing in a Stoke defender, possibly Targett which will give me 8

If City beat Chelsea I'll have Aguero, meaning I can bring Hart in for my 10th player

Seems good for them, he's quality, but this is a dodgy player now. Wonder how much they end up paying for him though, and if he will stay here either. He may end up being another player who will be sold from team to another so the agency (Doyen sports) can pocket transfer money.

Deadline day is boring without fans doing inappropriate things outside the training grounds.

Sorry to mention the upcoming double gameweek but there's not been much mention of it being in GW26 as oppose to GW25 for City and Newcastle.

Liverpool have a euro game that week so unable to have a double gameweek once again.

Anyone got any thoughts on that being more likely than GW25?

No one can have a double gameweek when euro matches are scheduled.

That's not strictly true. It's more correct to say that no-one can schedule a match on the same night as a Euro one without some sort of sanction.

But there are situations where a game could feasibly be played on a Monday or a Friday, and also a possibility of going ahead and playing it Tuesday to Thursday but by paying a fine. So you CAN have a double gameweek when Euro matches are scheduled - but it's reasonably unlikely and also very naughty.
