The Scout Mission – Gameweek 32

Next up, we turn our attentions to the weekend’s ten fixtures. With many Fantasy managers preparing to wildcard next week, we’re monitoring the form of Arsenal, Liverpool, Sunderland and Newcastle’s strikers, whilst City’s fit-again Belgian and the battle of West Ham’s budget midfielders are also on the agenda.

Welbeck’s form ahead of the double….
As we prepare to reassemble our squads for the upcoming doubles, there’s promising signs that the former United man has nailed down a regular role under Arsene Wenger. Welbeck has been named in the Arsenal first XI in three of the last four Gameweeks and led the line in back-to-back clashes against Spurs and Everton, heightening his appeal at a price of 7.3 in FPL. With his opener against the Toffees taking his tally to three strikes and an assist in just five appearances, Welbeck may well find his way into more wildcard plans if he produces the goods at home to Watford.

Iwobi’s minutes….
Handed a surprise start away to Barcelona in the Champions League, the youngster retained his spot for the Gunners’ trip to Goodison. Iwobi vindicated his manager’s decision by netting the second in a 2-0 win and looks to have edged ahead of the likes of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell for a role on the flank. At a price of 4.5, his value for money will be hard to ignore for many wildcarders if Wenger unleashes him from the off against the Hornets on Saturday.

…and Sturridge’s….
Liverpool’s fit-again frontman highlighted his goal-getting capabilities by bagging his fourth goal in just over 400 minutes of pitch time this term against Southampton in the previous Gameweek. Encouragingly for any would-be suitors, Jurgen Klopp chose to start Sturridge at St Mary’s just three days after he was named in the first XI United in the Europa League, which suggests that the striker’s fitness is on the up after numerous stints on the sidelines. With nine fixtures in the final nine Gameweeks, including a couple of doubles, Sturridge – with a mere 1% ownership – could prove a deadly differential if Klopp can keep him out of the treatment room.

De Bruyne’s return to the City fold….
After a couple of months on the sidelines, the Belgian’s return to full training earlier this week has Fantasy managers on alert as we start to firm up our wildcard plans. De Bruyne’s average of 5.5 points per appearances is greater than any City attacker this season and with Manuel Pellegrini’s men set for a double Gameweek 34, his fitness will be eagerly monitored. Now down to 4% ownership, the summer signing could be a devastating differential if he can prove his fitness from this point onwards.

Mitrovic’s momentum….
The Serbian seems to have won the race to lead the line under Rafa Benitez at Newcastle, starting both matches since the new manager was installed at St James’. Mitrovic’s equaliser against Sunderland backed up his recent improvement since the departure of Steve McClaren – he’s joint-top with Harry Kane for efforts inside the box over the last two Gameweeks, with seven apiece. At a time when Georginio Wijnaldum has been moved to a deep-lying role in the double-pivot, Mitrovic could emerge as the best route into the Magpies attack for the double and beyond.

Lanzini as the Hammers’ budget option….
The Hammers midfielder threw his hat into the ring ahead of their pair of double Gameweeks by netting in the 2-2 stalemate at Stamford Bridge last time around. With many looking to acquire Dimitri Payet for the run-in, Lanzini and Michail Antonio could be set to battle it out for our affections as the Hammers host struggling Palace this time around. Priced at just 4.9, Lanzini could barge his way past the former Forest flier if he can start to replicate the form that served up three goals and two assists in six appearances between Gameweek 8-13.

Mahrez and Kane’s pre-wildcard form….
As we start to plan for the impending doubles, the popular Fantasy pair remain in fine fettle as Leicester and Spurs battle it out for the title. Mahrez has bagged the winner in two of the Foxes last three, whilst two goals and an assist against Bournemouth helped Kane produce back-to-back double figure hauls for the first time this term. Owned by 68% and 46% respectively, can we really afford to cash them in at this point?

Martinez’ wide men….
With a trio of double Gameweeks to contend with, the Toffees look primed for wildcard investment over the run-in. Although Ross Barkley’s security of starts ensures he remains the favoured midfield option, his lack of form – ten blanks in 12 appearances – has been anything but convincing. Aaron Lennon has now started the last six and racked up four goals and an assist over that period, though with the likes of Kevin Mirallas now back from suspension and big-money signing Oumar Niasse getting amongst the goals over the international break, Martinez’ penchant for rotation could still scupper our plans for investing in the Toffees options out wide.

Bolasie’s chance to shine….
It’s fair to say that Palace’s form could barely be more unconvincing as they prepare for back-to-back doubles in Gameweeks 33 and 34. Having conceded in each of the last 11, many may baulk at Scott Dann’s 5.7 asking price, whilst at the other end of the pitch, the uncertainty surrounding Connor Wickham’s fitness is enough to deter investment. In the centre of the park, though, there’s hope that Yannick Bolasie may spring into form just in time. Granted, the wide man has been anything but consistent but, as ten and 15-point hauls against West Brom and Newcastle attest to, he’s capable of explosive returns on his day. We’ll be keeping a keen eye on his Upton Park showing, particularly with that pair of home clashes against Norwich and Everton in Gameweek 33 in mind.

Defoe as a third forward….
Back-to-back goals against Southampton and Newcastle in the last two Gameweeks took the Sunderland forward’s total to 12 for the season – a tally bettered by only five other frontmen. Despite his key contribution and a very kind 5.1 price tag, Defoe remain in just 4% of FPL teams as the Black Cats prepare to host West Brom this weekend. With a double Gameweek 37 also to follow, another goal-getting display could earn him a place in some wildcard teams as he becomes increasingly vital to the Wearsiders’ survival bid.

    Defoe

    Could easily get overlooked IMO

Come GW37 what we all need is players from teams with things to play for. Sunderland are likely to still be battling to stay up, and to do so they need goals. Defoe is the source for that. Lukaku, Sturridge/Costa and Defoe could be the strikeforce to be on come GW37

I'm WCing in 36 and Defoe is on my radar.

A lot could change between now and then though.

But Watford have nothing to play for and if they win the SF by GW37 we could see them rest key players with an eye on the final

yeah he may come in for me GW36 or 37 if I don't get a Watford striker

The idea of selling Kun for Defoe 😆 😆

But if Sturridge isn't available for GW35 then I may have to get Defoe then

            Costa all on my radar

a lot depends on whether Sturridge survives the next 3 GWs

Defoe looks the only Sunderland attacker worth having, Could get Willian or Cesc for Chelsea.

      No brainer.

Spurs have scored almost twice as many goals as Watford this season.. And Watford's scoring record is worse now than earlier in the season. Ighalo has blanked many times in a row, Alli is on fire. Liverpool are also conceding more than Arsenal.

      WC wk 32

      DDG, Darlow
      Bellerin,Gabriel,Rojo,Sakho,Coleman
      Sanchez,Payet,Barkley,Bolasie,Firmino
      Aguero,Lukaku,Martial 0.9m itb

Wk 33 Save FT (4 DGWers) maybe TC Lukaku
Wk 34 Bolasie > Milner Roll the other FT. 15 DGWers
      Wk 35 Coleman,Barkley,Martial > Ivanovic,Fabregas,Defoe -4 (11 starters.)
Wk 36. Save FT or Aguero > Costa/Rooney/Martial/Deeney
Wk37. The above transfer if not made in wk 36 and roll the transfer if no injuries to other DGWers. ( TC Payet/Lukaku/Rooney/Costa if not used) 11 DGWers.
      Wk38. 1 or 2 FT for punts.

    Robles darlow
    Bellerin Gabriel Simpson Reid sakho
Ozil mahrez bolasie firmino (coutinho if not fit) mahrez

I have a stupid question a "techie one".
How in the name of jayus do you get back to the home page without going into the "My Account" section and clicking "home"?
Where has the home button gone?
I feel a bit lost and homeless (despite the my account section)

Trying to plan ahead and it's down to Firmino or Payet... Not both.

    Payet Fixtures:
CPL, ARS, (lei+WAT), BLANK, wba, (SWA+MUN), stk

    Firmino Fixtures:
Injured, STK, (bou+EVE), NEW, swa, (WAT+CHE), wba

Who's better from now until the end of the season? Currently on Payet as I'm planning on getting Sturridge

Not sure if polls are a great way of doing things. Not like we can make sure mobile users are the ones voting etc.

Seen far more positive than negative feedback from mobile users. Overall I think the experience is better for a large % but was never going to please all of course. That's impossible.

I'm not sure a poll will get anywhere. It's best you communicate your key issues and we try to address them.

Use on mobile should be far more friendly - that's my experience but if you're not feeling that, then please mail me at support@fantasyfootballscout and we'll chat.

Hi Steve. Ipad on portrait or landscape?

If you're on landscape on Ipad, you can actually get the small desktop resolution which, in my experience, is excellent on table.

            Do you think?

I'm using iPad right now and think the experience is great. Everything fits to screen, no zooming. Just turn it landscape if I want to see comments etc.

Thanks for the interest in my comment. It's great that you are all taking an interest and helping. I'm using it in portrait. Landscape helps with the recent comments and I've noticed that additional navigation options open up when in landscape, this seems a nice touch. It does still feel a bit zoomed in though. I'll try an iOS upgrade as suggested by Tm

The desktop view is just as crap I'm afraid.

As someone said earlier on Facebook this looks like something from 1999 and Windows 98, not 2016. Just truly a horrible new format totally user unfriendly.

I'm trying to figure out what thought process actually believed this was a good modification.

Windows 98? Not sure about that.

What needs to be changed on desktop view? It looks fine on two different Windows PCs I've used, different OS and different size monitors/resolutions.

Not tried it outside of chrome much mind you.

Sorry, I'm being a bit mean there.

However, this is now a totally joyless experience for me. I liked being able to open up the ticker on the right side and see comments going up in real time.

Now it feels like I have to enter a different 'room' for every different function I want. If I make a comment I have to refresh or go the homepage and then click on the loudspeaker thing to find out if anyone has replied to it.

I'm not as tech savvy as most on here and I'm currently typing this on an old Dell desktop with Chrome on Windows XP (I rarely use the desktop but my daughter is on the macbook) but it's just as bad for me on my Galaxy S4.

I'm glad you guys like it, but it really doesn't work for me. Sorry.

Guess that's an issue related to your OS. I have every single fecking thing visible and available to be opened on the right side. No problems with the site's functioning at all. Even the captain poll that didn't use to be there is now available at ease. Not that I give a rat's arse about that, in particular, but still.

It's totally cool to not agree, no need to be sorry 🙂

On desktop you should still be able to see ticker, comments on the right. On iPad and potentially other tablets you can go landscape to see it.

On mobile you will have to go homepage though. It is a bit more of a pain granted but should give an overall easier posting experience as it fits to screen. No zooming etc

Aha! Apologies are in order guys.

Clearly its my operating systems. My macbook charger broke on Tuesday and the battery ran out yesterday morning so I've been using my old Dell Desktop which is so old it has windows XP on. Other than that I've been using my mobile.

On both those devices I can't get anything on the right side and its a nightmare to navigate regardless to whether I use desktop or mobile version on my phone.

Literally just sent my daughter to bed (she's been on my macbook all evening since the new charger arrived this morning) and logged onto the site on Firefox and I have all the good stuff on the side.

This may also explain why Twitter has gone all funny on my mobile now.

Its my phone and desktop that are completely and utterly sh*te (they are both old, mind).

We'll regardless of age the mobile won't show comments and ticker etc unless you're on homepage. Mark will see later if we can make changes to that.

But for desktop you should be good.

Just shout if you need any more help - takes some getting used to.

                      Ah, OK.

I can get the side stuff on my tablet too as long as I turn it to Landscape (I always like to use my tablet in Portrait), it disappears if I go Portrait. I've been on it (Go-Tab 9.7) but because I never go Landscape I only got the same content as the mobile version.

My desktop OS clearly is too old to support the new changes, which is what I've been using since the upgrade.

Sorry to have been mean to you gys, the problem was with my systems not yours. I'm a happy bunny now.

                        Good stuff 🙂

I prefer portrait on tablet too. I literally make my post, turn it landscape, wait for next comment To reply too and then switch it back to portrait to type 🙂

I understand that but I personally felt that the majority of users needed a better experience on mobile for reading articles and posting and reading discussions. That's what the design on mobile is aimed at.

I can see that you're now deprived of viewing everything at once but you were surely zooming in constantly and scrolling across the page to read and change view.

You had effectively got used to using a site which wasn't designed for mobile and were getting around the shortcomings to get what you wanted.

I can see why you feel it's taken a step backwards given how you used the site but I think you're an edge case. The majority will be using the site to read the articles and comments, and some will post comments. That is now far far easier and effective on mobile.

I do plan to try to make the ticker available on article pages so folk can view it without dropping back to the homepage. I'm also wondering if we can slide it in as we do the menu to make it more available.

I do plan to tweak and hopefully improve things but we had to get the first iteration out there now to test with an audience in the season.

Keep feeding back and try to bear with us while we tweak leading up to next season.

I can understand that the look and feel won't be everyone's cup of tea - Will designed this site and the previous FFS and is a very successful and is a hugely accomplished web and graphic designer but I won't go into the ins and outs of modern site design - obviously it's a taste thing.

However, I'd like to know what you're struggling with in terms of usability? What's your biggest issue?

Hey Mark, one small thing for mobile, overall it's great but when I go to a comment from home page and then go back,is there any chance it could be setup to automatically go back to comments. At the moment it's just normal home page. Something small but just my little suggestion.

Hi. When you say comment from homepage, you mean from an article?

Are you saying that when you post a comment, it doesn't refresh at your comment?

No, just when I view one from live feed and then go back to home page I have to select comments again from the tab menu. Would be better if it remembered that I was looking at comments instead of having to select tab again

I see - so you want it to store the last selection on that menu selected on the homepage. Should be possible.

That's it,and if I may propose a simple solution. Instead of featured articles being the default set comments as default as I'd guess majority of users spend most of their time viewing /posting comments 🙂

Mobile and tablet is excellent for me, but desktop doesn't seem to work properly. I used to love desktop view.

For me the menu bar doesn't follow when I scroll down, but the FFS logo does and gets in the way. From what I hear it's not supposed to do that though, so must be a bug.

Woah...that's a bizarre bug. Can you mail me at support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We'll try to recreate that but I've never seen that reported.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I guess we were always going to upset some with the changes. My view is that the HD desktop mode is an improvement and the mobile view is far easier to use but I respect your view and can only hope you become acclimatised.

Out of interest, how are you viewing the site and on what resolution?

I thought the same first, but it mostly just looks very different, which makes it hard to grasp at first. I'm sure we'll get used to it in time, it's mostly just the conservative nature of liking what we are accustomed to as it feels easy and practical.

In fact, I have been warming up to the new looks ever since I realised that the tweets can now be scrolled further on site, which is handy. That's advance from the old site, which already made me approve more the things I didn't like at the first glance.

      Give it a better chance.
