Scout Notes – Gameweek 36 – Monday

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son fire Spurs into a two-goal lead at the Bridge. Eden Hazard emerges from the bench to trigger a Chelsea comeback as Tottenham’s bid for the Premier League crown ends in chaos.

Supersub Hazard sparks Chelsea revival

Chelsea displayed great spirit to salvage a point against Tottenham and deny their London rivals the title.

Eden Hazard emerged from the bench for the second period as a replacement for Pedro and altered the complexion of the tie, delighting 15,000 new owners with his third goal in two outings. Ahead of a pair of double Gameweek trips to Sunderland and Liverpool, Guus Hiddink explained why he opted to name the Belgian amongst the subs last night:

”Eden has had a difficult season, we can’t neglect that fact, he’s had a lot of injuries. There’s been a lot of frustration and it’s good to see him back. He played 90 minutes at Bournemouth, a less intense game. My plan was to play him there for an hour and then he could be of use in this game. This game was more intense so it was wiser to bring him on later and have him at full speed in the second half. He did very well and we saw, as we have before, what he’s capable of.”

Elsewhere amongst the Chelsea attack, Willian and Diego Costa also picked up the points with an assist apiece. Costa has now produced attacking returns in nine of his 13 appearances under Hiddink and, at a time when Sergio Aguero’s minutes and Harry Kane’s morale are in question, he could be worth considering with a mere 5% ownership for the last two Gameweeks.

In defence, John Terry and Gary Cahill returned to action after stints on the sidelines, allowing Branislav Ivanovic to switch back to his favoured right-back berth after a number of matches at centre-half. Cahill notched his second goal of the campaign, yet we have little faith in a Blues defence that’s mustered a solitary clean sheet in 11 match-ups.

Spurs lose the plot

Tottenham Hotspur’s slim title hopes dissipated as they surrendered a two-goal lead at Stamford Bridge.

Harry Kane struck first with his ninth goal in eight outings, before Heung-min Son – who came in for the suspended Dele Alli – doubled the visitors’ advantage nine minutes later. The former’s rich vein of form should deter sales ahead of a home tie against Southampton and trip to Newcastle United, though in light of Spurs’ capitulation, question marks must be asked over their state of mind for the final two fixtures. In saying that, the chance to remain above arch-rivals Arsenal should prove motivation enough for the Lilywhites to finish strongly.

Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen supplied the assists. The former has delivered attacking returns (one goal, three assists) in three of his previous four starts, while the latter hasn’t drawn a blank in seven outings. With Alli out of the picture following his three-match ban, both men represent enticing differentials heading into Spurs’ concluding pair of match-ups, though non-owners will be happy to shop for double Gameweek alternatives instead.

Spurs’ trip across the capital was a fractious affair that descended into anarchy by the dying embers. The North Londoners earned nine yellow cards in all, setting a new Premier League record. Astonishingly, no reds were dished out on the night, yet there’s a strong possibility that the FA will take retrospective action regarding Mousa Dembele’s eye gouge on Diego Costa, potentially ruling him out for the season. Moreover, the governing body might look at Erik Lamela’s apparent stamp on Cesc Fabregas, further diminishing Tottenham’s pool of available players.

On the injury front, Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld were both withdrawn at different points in the second period. It remains to be seen how serious the complaints are, with Ben Davies and Kevin Wimmer primed to earn call-ups in the event that either is sidelined. With a resurgent Southampton attack up next, though, Tottenham’s clean sheet chances look to have taken a turn for the worse, with Alderweireld’s 41% owners perhaps set to cash in if he’s ruled out.

    Thoughts on this team?

    DDG, darlow

    pva, TFM, simpson, lovren, monreal

    Firmino, payet, lanzini, sanchez, townsend

    Deeney, Kane, Sturridge

What I do really depends on Liverpool on Thursday, but even then it's all guesswork as to who plays. I want to get Defoe, hazard and maybe another DGW defender? Any ideas?

Everyone is saying Payet and I may go with him to block - but he hasn't done that much lately
Carroll is potentially more explosive but not nailed for minutes
Ditto Sturridge and he may be playing with a reserve team
      Firmino - minutes
      Smalling - don't be daft
      Defoe - dull
Hazard - looking myself but he's away both games and there's the minutes he'll play. back looking himself again though. In a normal season no-one would look beyond him and Sturridge

Morning all - hope you're enjoying the sunshine (in London there certainly is) and not in work like me 🙁

Any ideas for the -4 this week? Already did Alli --> Payet as soon as he got through the game this weekend. Payet will be my TC.

    Robles*
    PvA* Morgan Toby
    Coutinho* Lanzini* Payet*(TC) Townsend
    Deeney* Kane Lukaku*
    Darlow / Sanch Bellerin Gabby
Loads in the bank (No Kun!)

    I guess my options are:
    A) Toby out for Cresswell - play Morgan (depends on Poch I guess!)
    B) As above, except vice versa for Toby/Wes
    C) Coutinho out for another mid (Khazri? Barkley!?)
    D) Lukaku out for another striker (Defoe? Studge?)

Which is best? Don't want to take more than 1 hit as I have a 23 point lead in my ML 🙂

    Thanks in advance!

HI Individual, I made the same move as you and are debating very similiar moves for a -4! Our teams are pretty similar too, so best of luck 🙂

I'd probably lose Toby for Cresswell in your situation. Spurs could fall apart now, and I cant see clean sheets in either of their next two games. Cresswell looks a great option, do you have any funds for Smalling? Hes another I am considering.

Rest of the team looks great!

Hiya AZ! Sorry, had to do some work!

Yeah I think you're right with Toby. I don't know if Morgan will keep a cleanie vs. Everton (kinda hoping he doesn't because I have Lukaku!) but if he's at all a doubt come the end of the week I will consider it.

Yes I can also afford Big Chris. Not sure about him, though, nor United in those fixtures generally - think Norwich will score against them, as will West Ham with Payet TC 🙂

        Thanks for your reply!

Hello there Individual! It was pretty average but still managed to get a greenie. Townsend in for Milner paid off but Darlow on the bench instead of DDG really hurt me :/.
I know you're hit aversive but considering it's DGW time you have a lot to win if you bring in the right players. A -8 paid off big time last DGW for me. Maybe I'm doing the same now. Could you give me some feedback on below? Would be greatly appreciated! Looking to get inside the top 5k.

How far should I go? Looking good for a -8?
          Transfer 1: Özil > Fab/Haz.
          Transfer 2: Aguero > Carroll/Defoe
          Transfer 3: Sakho > PvA

Yo buddy, yeah no worries. Glad you got a green. I had a monstrous week because of bringing Deeney in plus Darlow/Townsend paying dividends.

Liking your transfers, but I'd be probably minded to double down on west ham rather than getting in Chelsea players who aren't playing for anything specific. PvA in is fine, as is Carroll. I'd be tempted to get Kouyate or Noble in instead of Fab/Haz for Ozil. Maybe Kouyate is looking like a good punt, seems to be marauding forward quite often!

              Hope that helps 🙂

Thank you mate! Wow that's a huge one! Darlow forever your darling I suppose? 😉 I like your thoughts! I have to choose between Carroll or double WHU mid, if I go Noble then I will get Defoe in for Aguero. It's just that I think Hazard could explode with his form and with the Euros coming up... Are you TCing now?

I already have Reid and Payet. Who would be your third choice? Ah nice, it is a safe choice. I wasted my TC on Trollkaku in GW33, so I will try to cover everyone's TC with having the main captain candidates in my team and captaining an explosive option.

Ah sweet! Didn't realise. Solid players then; worth getting Defoe as you're covered for hammers 🙂

I'm actually coming round to the Hazard idea now. Would be a -8, guess it depends on Liverpool this week as he'd come in for Coutinho. But idk if it's worth the hit. I'm 23 pts ahead in my cash league so a -8 would mean I start the weekend on 15 ahead. Pretty slender.

That's rough with the TC 🙁 I was tempted but held back luckily. Hopefully Payet will reward my restraint haha

    Milner Firminho Sanchez Payet Mahrez
    Defoe aguero Kane

What to do with this bunch,
    Gabriel out PVA in?
Leaves me on -0.4m, want to make some more transfers for hits anyway. any suggestions who to get out and who in?

    Fresh crowd.

    A) Ozil -> DGW mid (Have haz, payet, lanzini, alexis)
    B) Bellerin -> DGW defender (Have PVA, Creswell, Smalling, Kirchoff)

You'll want both of them GW38 so neither? Looks like you have the best DGW midfielders/defenders anyway

      B is pointless
A depends on who you have up front and the formation you intend to play. You'd have to bench Alexis.
      What's your front 3?

I guess depends on what's going on in your team, but I assume you're bench boosting and money is now no object.

I'd be tempted to go A - you have Alexis and Bellerin to "cover" you in the City game from both angles. Wait to see what happens with Liverpool but there's a wealth of options in the midfield and you have the best defensive options already imo.

Hey guys, your help would be appreciated and you honestly haven't let me down yet...

Should I swap Eriksen out and bring in Fabregas for a -4 (I already brought in Hazard last week 🙂 ) ?

I am chasing the leader in my ML and want to maximise DGW players but Eriksen's form is great (attacking returns in the last six games).

keep eriksen, he's in great form and spurs will definitely bounce back against Southampton and secure 2nd

Chelsea have nothing to play for however and that spurs performance is one of the best they've had all year and probably a one off, I can see them batteling with that same heart and desire in the next matches

Thanks mate- you've confirmed my gut feeling. One Chelsea is more than enough and I don't have Kane, so Eriksen stays. He'll be on my draft for next season too!!

    Robles
    Cresswell, Rose, Simpson
    Sanchez, Payet(TC), Lanzini, Coutinho
    Aguero, Kane, Defoe

    Darlow, KDB, Bellerin, Gabriel

    1ft, 0.5 in the bank.

Will do KDB to Hazard/Fabregas and bench Sanchez

Should I take a hits to get rid of Kane or Rose?
Kane to Deeney/Sturridge and Rose to Valencia maybe?

Morning all! How is everyones teams for DGW 37 shaping up?

7 DGWers here (Sturridge, Payet, Lanzini, Milner, Clyne, Cresswell/Smalling, Robles) for a -4/. Also debating Aguero --> Costa for -8.

    Payet TC which is exciting!

Ok, back to the drawing board thanks to everyone who replied.

So is this worth it for this week?

Sanchez, Otamendi, Simpson to Cresswell, Cathcart, Hazard -8.

    It leaves me with this:

    Robles
    Cresswell, PvA, Cathcart
Lanzini, Payet (3C), Hazard, Milner, Townsend
    Sturridge, Kane

    Mignolet, Kun, Monreal, Fosu

It allows me to bring Sanchez back GW38 with no hits. Yes or no?

I wouldn't sell Alexis but seems like you have no other option.

So yes. Though Kun on the bench would make me very nervous.

I feel the same way, but it's a choice of Townsend, Kane or Kun on the bench this week and a great deal of hiding behind the sofa.

nah. I like Lanzinis prospects. Wait to see what happens in the CL with Aguero, if they make it to the final he'll be wrapped in cotton wool and i'd likely get rid.

if you get rid surely carroll with his fixtures is the one to go to? and i already have 3 west ham so lanzini would be the one to go? why do you like lanzini so much?

good question. He missed a sitter at the last DGW, and he knows how to get a goal, think hes been unlucky with a lack of returns and they could come this week.

Carroll is a good option but i already have 3 WHM (cresswell, payet, lanzini). Would probably go for a bit of a punt with Costa.
