The Community Round Up

With the launch of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game now imminent, the community has been busy predicting prices and guessing which players will propel them to mini-league glory next season. Our hot topic posters also talk tactics, real life football skills and team names, while our Members have been busy delving into the underlying statistics of last year’s best midfielders and forwards. Finally, we issue a call for those organising mini-leagues next season to contact us and find out who finished Euro 2016 on top.

The Hottest Topics

On Thursday Hazardous Conte broke the news that the Fantasy Premier League game launch is just days away and is set to launch on the week beginning Monday July 18.

Predicting who will be 2016/17’s top performers has been a popular pastime while the community awaits. Spineless Weasel got the crystal ball gazing started with a look at the players who should excel, while we also listed at those we have high hopes for and those moving Premier League teams who could be set for an upturn in fortunes.

United fan wondered just how successfully this year’s batch of newcomers, such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will settle. Pompeyfan has high hopes for Spurs new recruit Vincent Janssen, while Trigg urges investment in newly promoted Middlesbrough’s defensive assets.

Finding next season’s successful premium defenders, who offer points returns at both ends of the pitch, emerged as a key task for Niel and Lateriser12 looked at which of Manchester’s two new managers, Jose Mourinho or Pep Guidiola are set for bragging rights at the end of next season.

The search for next season’s best goalkeepers was a top issue for Tadic is the new Eriksen to consider, while we also took a look at West Ham and Crystal Palace’s chances of success, after their markedly different 2015/16 campaign.

Meanwhile, FPL Price prediction also dominated discussion as Andy85wsm canvassed your views on the cost of midfielders and forwards.

Pre-season form can be a good indicator of potential success, but as Disable’s hot topic points out caution is needed in placing too much emphasis on these friendlies.

FPL  strategies also came under the microscope, with Jim Jam assessing the merits of opting for a triple defensive rotation policy that makes best use of budget friendly players. Meanwhile, weaknesses in Fantasy management and how to correct them were AK’s key consideration as he prepares for the new campaign.

Getting the right strategy in place for double Gameweeks is also crucial to FPL success. Jarvish has already started looking ahead to next season’s potential blanks and doubles.

Elsewhere, Sutt456 ran the rule over the player list for the Daily Telegraph Fantasy game, which launched this week, while Lateriser12 asked where our community’s real life football talents lie.

Finally, no Fantasy Football preparation is complete without a good team name. Dr Kenneth Noisewater took time to find out what some of the community’s best and most well crafted team names will be next season.

The Members Tables

Winwoodfc has been looking at the per minute statistics of midfielders last season, meanwhile Bowstring92, has contructed a pair of tables looking at 2015/16’s best midfielders and forwards.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

We were delighted to find out that one of our community, DucksFly2gether, won the official Uefa game for Euro 2016. We also caught up with the others who did well in this competition, including Milanista, who claimed top spot in our league, while Andy85wsm emerged as champion of the FFScout moderators and contributors league.

Looking ahead to the FPL launch Az has already started looking for recruits to join his cash leagues.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Anyone else think that 3 city players are must this season ?
I think that city will easily win EPL with at least 15 points advance on the end of the season...

Only if they are scoring well and keeping CS. Could win by 15 and not have many CS.

Peps teams are wide open at the back and very vulnerable to pace on counter attacks

    Bottomed 🙁

    Note from the first-half.
    DCS United 0-1 Southampton
    James Ward-Prowse goal (no
    assist)
*Southampton set up with a back 4, a diamond midfield and two up front who often drifted wide. Without the ball Tadic playing at the of the diamond moved up into an advanced position with austin on the left and Redmond on the right. It often turned into a 4-3-3 formation without the ball.
    - With Southampton playing a narrow diamond formation both full-backs have a lot of space to exploit. Bertrand or Cedric would be a steal at 5 million.
    - Oriel Romeu was excellent in the way he broke up the play in the first half. He may be a decent bench fodder ecspecially with his threat from corners as well as potential bps from CBI (clearances, blocks & interceptions).
    - Dusan Tadic looks a major goal and assist threat in the number 10 position. He also took inswinging free kicks and corners from the right hand side. He is also expected to be on penalties. He would be a very enticing option @7-7.5 mil IMO.
    - If Nathan Redmond can nail down a place as part of Southampton's front two he has great OOP (out of position) potential, and could become the choice 4th mid to own. However even if he was a regular starter I would expect that long/austin could be subbed on fire him at some point late in the games.
    - There likely to be only room for two of long, austin, Redmond and jay Rodriguez. Southampton's last friendly before the season starts will be an indicator of who is likely to get the nod up front.

        1. Däzzy
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

Looked reasonably lively often drifting out wide. Looked to often get in behind the DCS defence, and was in the brink of going one-on-one with their keeper a few times. Linked up well with Martina and Tadic in particular. Not many signs of a good partnership/relationship with austin tho. Got into the box a few times when Cedric and Targett were in cruising areas but little feel to him. As I said above situations last friendly is likely to be the most accurate indicator of whether he will start gw1 out not.

Interesting thanks, wasn't aware of this - will certainly be keeping a close eye.

Perhaps if he partners Long that could improve things.

I'm definitely looking at Tadic anyway, like that number 10 role.

I would look at him at that price, but wouldn't pay any more.

Koeman should shore them up somewhat but if young Stone is off and Jag picks up quite a few injuries these days I'm not sure I place their CS potential particularly high. No pens and few FKs. I dunno...I paid 5.5 for Shaw last year in a far more miserly defence and I'm kinda hoping there's similar value out there this time around.

I am ready to pay 6.5 for him. Top scoring defender in my opinion this season. Probably will cost 6.0. but it's cheap for a defender with penalties, offensive duties, great crossing, free kicks and corners, just like bertrand at sto, and we all know that baines is set pieces master. Old school, just like a footballer from the 80ies, my safest choice with gylfie.

    Guys,

Has anyone ever done any analysis on picking 1st and 2nd choice GK's from a single team versus two GK's from different teams and rotating them? I.e, whether over the years it has yielded more points to rotate GK's? Or is the money saved better utilised elsewhere? I'm sure it will have been covered at some point, if anyone can link me to it that'd be awesome!

baines would be a great pick if he is on penalty duties. But wasn't lukaku taking them last season. People seem sure here that baines will be taking penaltys

Koeman could well revert back to using him for pens. Don't know whether Lukakatroll has committed his future to Everton.

It's for Koeman to decide so anything that came before doesn't count. Fact is Baines is the best pen and fk taker at the club so if he gets them back it's happy days. If not I wouldn't bother.

Baines took one in GW38 with Lukaku on pitch. Maybe Big Rom has given them up after the FA Cup Semi miss among others

Giroud and Koscielny are going to miss the start of the season. Means that Ozil isn't worth starting with as there will be no recognised striker and focal point. Maybe Iwobi and Gabriel would be good under the radar picks.

Opinions on doubling-up on defence, just using two teams?

    e.g. MUN
    ARS MUN ARS

Does anyone ever do this? Would it be considered too expensive? Is relying on clean sheets from just 2 teams too risky? Is it better to cover 4+ teams instead, maybe focusing on defenders that have higher potential for attacking returns?

    1. George Sillett
      • 8 Years

Non affordable imo but a good idea in a perfect world. Would be very restrictive money wise elsewhere.

Wouldn't do it until at least GW5, too risky before we know which teams are keeping cleanies

This, people did this with Chelsea last year and tanked the opening quarter of the season.

Just pick the cheapest defender from arsenal, man city, man utd and Chelsea, ride that out form the season and your good.

      E.g

      Hart
      Azpilicueta Shaw Montréal/Bellerin

As the season goes on, these teams will get clean sheets and theres so much a defender can do so target teams most likely for a CS and stick with them.

14 of 20 PL clubs have an MUFC academy player in their squad

    Arsenal - Welbeck
    Bournemouth - King
    Burnley - Heaton, Keane
    Crystal Palace - Fryers
    Everton - Gibson, Cleverley
    Hull - Bruce
Leicester - Zieler, Simpson, De Laet, Drinkwater
    Stoke - Shawcross
    Sunderland - O'Shea
    Swansea - Gorre
    Watford - Cathcart
    WBA - Evans, D. Fletcher
    West Ham - A. Fletcher

I know there's only 13 teams there, the 14th should be obvious

I mean that from a Utd supporter that always liked Welbz it's a shame to see him in another club. That's it.
Of course it's understandable he left on an intelectual level but football is a game of passion and I will never get used to see him in that Arsenal shirt.

Mendy is a good one and once he signed it was pretty much a dead cert Kanté was on the way. I just think it's a shame that he couldn't commit to one more season with them after what they'd achieved.
