Captains

Captain Poll – Gameweek 3

This morning we take a look at our latest captain poll, assessing the likely favourites for the armband in Gameweek 3.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the homepage on mobile. Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We predicted that Sergio Aguero (13.1) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) would slug it out at the summit of the Gameweek 2 captain poll. They not only dominated voting but both excelled, bringing in a brace, maximum bonus and a 26-point Fantasy Premier League haul to those who chose to captain them.

We expect more of the same this Gameweek as Manchester City’s Aguero hosts a West Ham side that has looked disjointed due to injuries so far this campaign.

Meanwhile, the Manchester United frontman, who at 51% ownership has overtaken the 50.2% owned Aguero as FPL’s most popular player, visits a Hull side that have won both their opening fixtures. In the big Swede’s favour, the Tigers have conceding the third highest number of shots in the box of any Premier League side to date.

However, there could be a third protagonist to upset this duo’s dominance, with the 22.9% owned Eden Hazard (10.1) bringing in attacking points in both matches under Antonio Conte. The Chelsea wide man entertains a Burnley outfit that have conceded more shots than any side this season.

For those eyeing up a differential armband candidate, Southampton midfielders Dusan Tadic (7.4) and Nathan Redmond (6.1) look ideally placed. Although Tadic has yet to register attacking returns, his strong underlying statistics suggest that could change when Sunderland visit. The Serbian’s ownership in FPL is now down to just 4.6% after being discarded by more than 42,000 managers.

Nathan Redmond, who sits in 11% of FPL managers’ sides, has a goal to his name already and looks set to profit from his out of position striker role in this potentially prosperous encounter.

Ibrahimovic’s team mate Paul Pogba (8.5) offers another intriguing alternative armband option, following a strong debut in Gameweek 2 at home to Southampton.

After two matches without a goal, the 16.4% owned Harry Kane (11.0) will be lucky to register significant interest. The Spurs striker has continued to struggle in front of goal without the suspended Mousa Dembele in the side and, in Gameweek 2, his star waned further when he was forced into a number 10 role to accommodate Vincent Janssen (8.0), who was Tottenham’s most attacking player against Crystal Palace. Visitors Liverpool have already shipped five goals this season, but it could be the 1.9% owned Janssen who prospers rather than Kane.

Another of last season’s stars to fall out of favour this term is Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, who has been jettisoned by 35,000 FPL managers already this Gameweek on the back of two relatively poor displays from last season’s champions. A home tie against Swansea, however, could be the ideal fixture for the 27.9% owned midfielder to prove he is worthy of a price hike to 9.5 this season.

Took a punt on Musa who made a late apperance and really messed my with Capoue 1st on bench....time to rework.

RMT and some suggestions would be welcome.

    Foster - Jaku
    Valencia - Stones - Mee - Friend - Amat
    Haz - Firmino - Tadic - Ramirez - Cap
    Kun - Ibra - Musa

Thinking Musa to Benteke but worried as my Musa punt last week went downhill, also Firmino to Barkley b/c form and fixtures, could use that extra cash to spend and upgrade a def for a -4 which I think at this point could prolong my need for a WC. Thoughts?

      Squad looks good.

Shift Musa on your free transfer for Negredo/Gray/Rondon/Defoe as Benteke is another unnessary risk at this stage.

Thanks, Firmino (entire liverpool attack) just didn't look good with Sturridge back and Mane out IMO so afraid of another price drop if he has another blank against a strong Spurs side

Oh lol that doesn't make sense.

Obviously no one knows, but I think Capoue's role will still be something of a box to box, with Doucoure/Behrami/Watson as the holding player, and Pereyra slightly further forward. So maybe he won't be making as many runs into the box, but Pereyra should improve the creativity of the team in general.

Capoue's still the best cheap option.

What do do? Most urgent change needed is a replacement for Carroll, but also unhappy with Baines, Stones, and Ibe. Keeping the faith with Tadic and Firmino for now.

    Foster/Jaku
    Valencia/Baines/Stones/McAuley/Amat
    Hazard/Tadic/Firmino/Ibe/Hojbjerg
    Aguero/Ibra/Carroll

    1FT, 0ITB

Would have swapped Carroll for Negredo, but his price rise means I cant. Any ideas?

A good shout, and definitely one I'm considering - the thing putting me off is having 3 West Brom players, which is kinda overkill for a team likely to be hovering in mid-bottom of table obscurity.

Good point on the fixtures. I was going to go Negredo pre-season because of the fixtures, but tried to be too clever by picking Carroll instead. Fixtures it is. Thanks for the help folks.

How has Donald Love played and does he have much competition at RB for Sunderland?

I have absolutely nothing to do with my 2FT so I'm considering Amat to Love as I can't see me playing Amat with Swansea's upcoming fixtures

Pointless. Amat is the most like of the 4.0 to play 90 minutes every week and at that price he should be bench fodder anyway.

Love is on my watchlist but nowhere near nailed as Billy Jones is out injured. Could also be replaced h

        Foster (Jaku)
        Valencia VVD McAuley (Friend, Amat)
        Hazard, Lamela, Redmond, Tadic (Capoue)
        Aguero, Ibra, Gray

Friend, Tadic and VVD are the only two who haven't performed (yet) but I don't want to get rid of Soton before Sunderland at home and Friend is good value for 4.5m

Its a great problem you've got. I do think two attacking SOT players is a lot but like you say they could both perform well with that fixture. You could spread that risk to an Everton player, who's fixtures i also like.

Or Gray to Rondon who probably has slightly better fixtures.

They all feel like just sideways moves though. Probably most reasonable to let it burn.

Pretty sure if the supply that Lukaku has now and he has pens that he will deliver big time. He has a great run of fixtures as well. I was torn between him and Benteke but just think Lukaku will have a lot more chances than Tekkers.

You did not mention it was the Captain for your team and that you do not have Kun ? Read as a 'general captain question' and as such the answer is always Kun when City at home, so none of the above was my answer

I started with hazard or Ibra as captain meaning it was a captain related question i didn't mention him because I didn't have him, I didn't mention Carrick doesn't mean I want a suggestion to captain him

Phrase your question more clearly then? ... who should I captain ...

Another reply said Aguero was the best choice.

Most on here have Aguero and your question, to me, seemed a general hypothetical question.

As done one else said, get Aguero 😉

For what it's worth I have Hazard, Kun and Ibra and I will captain Kun, Ibra 2nd then Hazard 3rd

I think he will after reading the Everton forums.

He had a very good debut.

    Everton Midfielders - Discuss !

    1. Are we now expecting Bolassie to start ?
    2. Lukaku back in = Deulofeu out ?
    3. Best option between; a) Deulofeu b) Mirallas c) Bolassie
    4. Most nailed to start = Barkley but is worth 7.5 ...

FYI, Barkley is 7.6, soon to be 7.7

      1) Not me, but many are
      2) Possibly
      3) Mirallas imo
      4) Barkley. Could be worth it, but not convinced

i see today they are linked with Brahimi

If they get him, its a game changer. Seen him 2 or 3 times live and always really impressive

Anyone brave enough to go without Zlatan for one more week? I'm leaning towards wildcard GW4 and will no doubt get him then

I am. Too much of a headache to get him in at the moment, had a decent start to the season.

Nope but it did happen to me once last season, ended up benefitting me though so I didn't complain too much

Kane - I am still stubbornly hoping he can be the differential vs all you Ibra owners. Someone's got to go against the template

Why though? The reasons behind him being a bad pick are strong now.

If you want to avoid Ibra, lots of options better than Kane - Vardy, Costa, Rooney, Lukaku, Giroud

      1. Cradders
        • 9 Years

I don't think Giroud is a better pick than Kane. Correct me if I'm wrong but Kane has probably scored more league goals in the last 2 seasons than Giroud has in his last 3. That's probably an exaggeration but if you check it out it's probably not far off.

How did Kane do on the weekend? I swapped him for Costa yesterday, I didn't want to take any chances on a potential price fall

Probably Amat, but I can see City shipping a goal to West Ham if Payet returns, so Stones is definitely worth considering.

Keep Sanchez or ship? Have 2ft so need to use one..

Who would you ship to? Already have haz Redmond Ramirez and capoue

I would keep for sure, won't be poor for long and Giroud should be back allowing him back to the flank where he performs better. Plus Ozil will be back to supply the ammo and nice fixtures.

Im on WC. How does this look?

    Adrian / Jakupovic
    Valencia / Stones / Shaw / McAuley / Amat
    Hazard / Nolito / Coutinho / Redmond / Capoue
    Aguero / Costa / Gray

    0.0 ITB

Double Utd defence is too risky, swap one for Walker?
No to Coutinho, too hit and miss
      Gray > Negredo
      Also you need Ibra imo

      Ibra instead of Costa
Foster or Heaton instead of Adrian
      Friend instead of stones
Valencia or Shaw for walker or baines
Coutinho to Lamela or bolasie or mirallas

I've crawled out of the woodwork again! Doing good mate thanks for asking, solid start to the season. How have you been? Do you still enjoy a bet?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, I was looking at Nolito and Stuani. City look so good already and Nolito's settled in quickly.
