Digest

The Digest – Gameweek 3

On a busy transfer deadline day, we bring the curtain down on Gameweek 3, pondering the prospects of City’s renaissance man, whilst surveying the options in the light of yesterday’s FA bombshell.

The Player

Alexis Sanchez deserves a mention but, for his continued ascent under Pep Guardiola, we have to doff our caps to Raheem Sterling.

Having simmered with a pair of assists in his opening two Gameweeks, Sterling’s contribution in Sunday’s win over West Ham United was emphatic.

An extra yard of pace, a renewed willingness to take on his defender – Sterling was already rekindling past performances from his bygone Liverpool days.

Now with two goals to his name, the City wide man will surely be flowing with confidence ahead of the biggest stage of all – a Manchester derby.

We should have reservations when discussing what is still a developing talent.

Sterling can go missing, he could quickly swing back to mediocrity but the underlying numbers and the role he’s playing in Guardiola’s system certainly provide room for optimism.

Now priced at 8.2 and rising, Sterling’s form is out of the bag and the masses have caught on.

Experienced heads may resist being turned by a unpredictable talent, but Sterling appears to be key component of Guardiola’s plans and in a fluid attacking system, is producing statistics to rival even the top bracket strikers.

The Team

After picking up one point in the first two Gameweeks, Arsenal finally found their mojo with a 3-1 destruction of Watford on Saturday.

Alexis Sanchez’ 16-point return, courtesy of a goal and two assists, served a timely reminder of his talents as the Gunners prepare for an inviting run of fixtures that will surely invite investment.

Mesut Ozil also notched at Vicarage Road and looks the likeliest to rival Sanchez for our affections. His consistency on his way to a 19 assist return last season is still fresh in our memory – he’s the plodding Fantasy talent to Sanchez’ explosive but unpredictable returns.

In a season where new grappling laws have already boosted the number of spot-kicks, Santi Cazorla – as evidenced on Saturday – may also emerge as a viable option if, as expected, he cements his start.

Then we’ve got the impact of new signing Lucas Perez to consider – a potentially intriguing option as an 8.5 forward.

Suddenly the Arsenal attack is alive.

At the back, there’s also room for optimism, with fellow new boy Shkodran Mustafi expected to shore up an uncertain and unsettled rearguard.

We remain sceptical on their title credentials given the strength of the opposition gathering, but Wenger’s side are certainly back on the radar as a source of Fantasy talent.

That begins in Gameweek 4, where Sanchez and Ozil present viable captain options.

The Talking Point

Whilst deadline day is a major distraction, news of Sergio Aguero’s FA charge for an “alleged” act of violent conduct is still sinking in.

It seems likely that the charge will be upheld and that Aguero will accepted a three-match ban which will see him sit out the Manchester derby and the Gameweek 5 Etithad clash with Bournemouth.

His 51% ownership must now consider their options.

Benching Aguero over the next two Gameweeks is one route available, but having his funds in reserve is surely debilitating when there will be those re-investing his millions back into their squads.

In addition, Aguero’s price will likely drop, possibly by 0.3 or more by the time he returns for Gameweek 6. By benching him, we would be turning down an easy route to making perhaps 0.2 in funds; even that little could prove precious over the season.

The Wildcard looks the way to go. Without it we can swap out the Argentine but we can’t maximise the funds he liberates without a second free transfer or by taking a points hit.

With a Wildcard active, Aguero’s cash can be used to perhaps land Diego Costa or Romelu Lukaku, with change available to upgrade a mid-price midfielder to either Sanchez or Ozil.

That’s an intoxicating possibility that’s hard to resist which perhaps also offers up a new Gameweek 4 captaincy option.

The only danger is that we will get used to having Aguero’s funds distributed throughout our squads, paving the way for us to start questioning re-acquiring the Argentine for Gameweek 6.

Well he's been charged with violent conduct. I can't imagine there's anything he can say that would make them reverse their decision.

    Foster - (Jaku)
    Shaw - Stones - McAuley - (Mee) - (Amat)
    Hazard - Ozil - Lamela - Redmond - (Capoue)
    Aguero - Ibra - Gray

Should I WC? If not, who should I put in for Aguero with my 1FT?
    Thanks...

No need. You have Hazard, Arsenal's cover (Sanchez or Ozil), Ibra. The best cheap midfield Capoue, two solid mid price midfields and 1 FT to get rid Aguero. I don't think you need to do WC. Just take Aguero for either Lukaku or Costa.

Just to put my mind at rest before I pull the trigger - quick thoughts on WC team?

    Foster / Heaton
    Valencia / Williams / McAuley / Friend / Amat
    Hazard / Ozil / Sterling / Lamela / Capoue
    Ibra / Lukaku / Benteke

    0.1 ITB

Could downgrade Heaton to Jaku and free up an extra 0.3 but not sure... Cheers in advance for comments

Jaku not nailed with Marshall signing. Leave it as it is.
Lamela could be challenged if Sissoko goes to Spurs.
      Friend is injured atm

Never thought of Sissoko impact. I'd say he'd be nailed in the right wing position he played so effectively for France. Lamela should be OK on the left until Alli and Eriksen gain form

      Template WC team and solid

So ... Ozil and Sterling to get injured or blank for the next 4 games whilst Tadic, Redmond and Barkley to get back to back braces ... and of course Lukaku to troll you to distraction 😉

Goes without saying. Not least because I have Redmond and Barkley in my current team! Plus Townsend, who I have a sneaky suspicion might do me some damage once I ditch him.

      Thanks all.

That's my instinct with the keepers as well - I always want two playing ones, and Jaku/Marshall both seem too uncertain at the moment.

Sissoko's threat to Lamela I hadn't thought about. Ideally wanted a Liverpool mid in that slot but figured I can get one in a couple of weeks when their fixtures improve.

Friend injured now but think it's only a knock and I can't see much better value at his price (have had him from GW1).

Aguero... god knows. Obviously if Ibra dips in form then it's relatively easy, otherwise getting Kun back might involve downgrading one of the strikers to a 6.5 and either Ozil (maybe to Cazorla, or even cheaper) or Sterling too.

    Techie question guys...

Anyone got any idea how the season ticket calculates?

We have a difficulty for Hull as an away game of 950 and a difficulty of Burnley as a home game of 930. Yet the ticker shows a very strong blue for Burnley.

I'd expect this, but the numbers don't intuitively allow that calculation.

As some of you will know, I've built and shared an FPL spreadsheet planner with the community and it now includes a ticker element, but I can't refine the calculation.

    Help!

        Really???

So Leicester may be considered a tough fixture and is therefore considered of equal toughness even when City are set to play them.

This makes sense now! Kind off... Cos MID may be considered and easier game, but should be termed easy to Burnley.

        Thanks though Billy! Really helps

I know transfer plans can go to pot etc etc but what are peoples thoughts on these:

    Option (A):
For Next GW: Aguero and Redmond -> Lukaku and Ozil +0.5 mill ITB (-4)
For GW 5: Firmino -> Sterling

    or Option (B): Just WC

My team at the moment (1FT):
    Foster Jaku
    Valencia Terry Stones Friend Amat
    Hazard Firmino Lamela Redmond Capoue
    Aguero Ibra Rondon

Redmond and Gray to Snodgrass and Negrado, and Fletcher to Cupoue (if you can afford it)

      WC

      Foster
      Valencia Evans Williams
      Hazard Ozil Barkley Capoue
      Lukaku Costa Zlatan

      Jaku Stones Fer Amat

0.4 on the bank. Quick thoughts on my WC team? I'm not too sure if rotating Capoue, Fer and Evans are a good idea.

Isn't anyone worried about Lukaku's lack of form? Looking at his fixtures he'd be my first choice Kun replacement but his lack of form and tendency to not perform during a plum set of fixtures is worrying.

He looked OK at the weekend. Though it would have been better had he scored.

Really surprised with the Luiz > Chelsea rumour. Just doesn't seem like a Conte type of player especially a defender.

Choose two between Kane, Lukaku and Benteke

Choose two between Redmond, Bolasie and Pereyra

I hope Bony settles in well, Stoke's fixtures from GW8 onwards are pretty nice.

I'm assuming Aguero ban will be upheld so going to replace him with Lukaku. Also wanting Ozil in so would you replace Firmino or Lamela?

      Thanks

That's what I was thinking but his slight increase in ownership was worrying me, going with him + Aguero to Luk + Ozil thanks.

Any reason why you are not getting Sanchez in?

Sorry, just a toss up between those 2 so I think I'd rather go with Ozil once an out and out striker comes in for Arsenal (Giroud or Perez)

Similar question but would you replace Lamela or Redmond?

Since Everton attack consists of only trolls , makes sense to pick the cheapest one in Mirallas instead of lukaku or barkley?

i would say yes. its so uncomfortable for me to have lukaku, never had ross because of this troll factor, had lolofeu when he was denied 2 assists last season.

There aren't any other 23yr old trolls with 60prem goals behind them, though.
