Suspensions

Aguero Suspension Confirmed

Sergio Aguero will serve a three-match ban after the FA upheld their charge of violent conduct issued on Tuesday.

The verdict arrives as a result of a meeting of an independent panel at the FA, following Manchester City’s decision to contest the initial charge.

Aguero will now miss the next two Gameweeks, ruling him out of the Manchester derby on September 10, plus the plum Etihad meeting with Bournemouth in Gameweek 5.

Now we must make our own decision.

For some, this was made by activating the Gameweek 4 Wildcard.

Already a hugely popular window to carry out the refresh, Aguero’s troubles will have prompted greater numbers to hit the button.

Those with Wildcards active can now go about disposing of the Argentine’s services and distributing the funds over two players – potentially bringing in a midfield heavy-hitter as their Gameweek 4 captain.

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, the resurgent Raheem Sterling and the Arsenal pairing of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil top the bill.

The Gunners’ pairing look particularly attractive as a means of acquiring a Gameweek 4 captain – Arsenal face Southampton at the Emirates.

Those without a Wildcard and with just a single free transfer available face a tougher decision.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic already in almost 60% of squads, our sights must be lowered to consider the likes of Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku.

Alternatively, we can venture into the mid-price and absorb a transfer hit to acquire one of the aforementioned midfield targets.

Riding out the two Gameweeks with Aguero benched is clearly an option. However, it’s the threat from the Arsenal pair that looks dangerous.

Wildcard squads and those who commit two transfers will likely target one of Sanchez and Ozil and, if they deliver with the armband, it could create a major swing in Gameweek 4.

The key, however, is the plan heading into Gameweek 6 for Aguero’s return.

City travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea – a fixture that looks potentially profitable for Aguero.

Trading him out now looks to be the option if we can be certain to devise a bullet-proof plan to get him back ahead of Gameweek 6.

Again, those with the Wildcard should have the advantage; they can plan their squad around a strategy of banking their Gameweek 5 transfer, ensuring that the funds to bring back the City man can be unlocked with two transfers leading into Gameweek 6.

We have a Burning Question on the Aguero situation, the strategies and the targets arriving in the next 24 hours.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

i don't agree. it's not impossible. and as long as it seems to me that both Kun and
Ibra are essential what choice do i have except to keep both?

the key is always the same -- find midfielders who are cheaper than they should be
and will produce more points than their price says they should, a la Mahrez last year.

one choice is obvious to me, and anyone who has watched Watford's 3 games should come
to the same conclusion. -- Etienne Capoue is grossly underpriced.

so that is step one in keeping Kubra and having a decent midfield.

        1. Salah’s Sonnet
          • 12 Years
          7 years, 9 months ago

i just can't agree with that, one has to leave in order to have a heavy hitting midfield. If you keep both, you have to expect Ibra or Kun to score two goals or something per game, and banking on players in the price bracket of the Redmonds and Capoue's? it just simply won't happen. plus there are lots of teams without one or the other already and are far further in the ranks.
Ibra will be leaving for me, difference in opinion but it's cool 🙂

            • 8 Years

in order to keep Ibra and Kun (and a decent 7.5 ish 3rd striker), you can have a midfield of, for instance:

            Hazard, Ozil, Barkley, Capoue (4.5)

you just have to feel that your underpriced 4th mid is actually good enough produce points the way a
higher-priced 4th mid normally would. -- Capoue is, i think.

              • 12 Years
              7 years, 9 months ago

i see your point, it's just not for me, can't expect to go all season with two 4.5 mids, it would be kind of foolish just to keep ibra alongside aguero.

What is the news on Stones and Friend? Planning to WC to get Aguero back, but might WC now if they are likely to be out a while.

Had a jiggle around, thoughts on my algebraic WC efforts?

      Foster Pickford

      Shaw Williams Evans Lowton Amat

      Hazard Ozil Barkley Sterling Forshaw

      Ibrahimovic Costa Defoe

Only -4 required to bring back Aguero.

Meaning it required agonising over how to shift around the £s to be doable, much like an algebra equation.

Disappointing. I though you were going to say that your wildcard efforts were unital in the Prime ideal of the quotient class of all wildcard efforts.

If you already have Haz then maybe go for Tekkers/ Kane/Lukaku instead

What are people's 3rd striker's looking like with Ibra and Lukaku/Costa (max price)? Thinking of downgrading to Diomande to beef up the midfield but then would have to play one of Capoue or 4th Defender. Would make it easier to bring Aguero back in but i feel as though the attack is lacking.

Alternative would be to have a cheap £5.5m midfielder, i.e. Josh King and go for Benteke/Defoe as the 3rd striker but then bringing Aguero back in could prove tricky (Sterling > £5.5m or Ibra > Aguero)

Mine is looking like Rondon, so much so he is ruddy Rondon.

Still dont trust a Pulis attacker to get that many points, definately a better option than Diomande though.

Thoughts on dropping Negrado, fixtures get tough from here and there are better options out there. My current front 3 ; Vardy, Benteke and Negrado. Haven't used any transfers this week.

Playing Palace next Gw so could get some points ( U can sell after that game) and also likely to rise again if he does get points ( if you bought him cheap and trying to make some $$)

I have Aguero, Ibra and Gray. I want ti sell Kun but I am also worried about how Gray will play fue to the FA ban threat... I am thinking about bringing Kane in. Spurs fixtures are not bad. Why isnt anyone talking bout him? Tks

Because he's not been scoring any points. Many feel the absence of Dembele is key, won't be back for another few weeks from his ban.

Berated a reporter who asked a more than legitimate question about McCarthy falling out of favor at Everton. Does it on purpose for the media attention. It's just sad. The man's ignorance is embarrassing.

I'm probably in the minority here but I'm keeping Kun yeah it's 3 games but what happens when you wanna bring him back and you have already used your WC sure take -4 or 8 hit but it doesn't help if your like me behind by like 30+ pts in your retrospective money ML's I'm going to wait on and find out how long he's injured too before I make any choices.

        1. @persecuted_by_mods
            7 years, 9 months ago

Why can't you just remove him for no hit and then get him back when he's back for no hit

You could be 50+ points behind if your competition strengthens their midfield for 2 weeks. Then you'll regret not taking the hit
