The ScoutCast – Episode 201 – Penalty

The cruel mistress that is Fantasy Premier League.

Jonty has fallen a victim, paying the penalty for a few ill-judged decisions, compounded by a huge slice of bad luck as both Christian Benteke and his captain Sergio Aguero missed penalties in a single Gameweek.

He just can’t buy a break right now, which makes it all the more impressive that Jonty should brave another ScoutCast and risk a bruising hour in my company, along with Andy and Granville.

We make sure we conduct a full post-mortem on Jonty’s miserable plight, before delving into similar tales from the community in “Rough with the Smooth”.

Then it’s on to your questions as we consign Hull City to whipping boy status, pry into Pep’s potentially failing relationship with Aguero and dare to cast doubt on the Joe Allen bandwagon.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re nostalgic for the old formats, you can acquire the traditional mp3 audio version via this link or the first player below, or watch me get riled via the Google Hangout version in the second player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I have Cech, Stones, Baines, Amat and Jonny Evans in defence (plus Pickford and Tarkowski). I'm taking a hit on a defender as only 2 will play, would you rather go:

    a) Vertonghen
    b) A Smith
    c) Huth
    d) Pieters
    e) Liverpool coverage

For a hit, it has gotta be Vertonghen.

Pochecinno - Is it true that you invented the Dembele theory?

Not sure if I invented it but I did notice it before Jonty started espousing it. I don't actually believe it in it's current form, however.

Dembele theory can sort of also be Alli theory too, not sure it's truly exclusive.

You have stopped believing your theory just as your namesake has come around to it: http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-does-not-exist-without-mousa-dembele-jokes-mauricio-pochettino-a3331726.html

Lol I think it's more than him acknowledging an FPL theory. He's just recognising what I, as a Spurs fan, have noticed for a while. Namely, that Dembele is our single most important player.

Great parallel to draw. Used to love Mourinho as a Chelsea fan but he has descended into madness. Not funny anymore, not entertaining at all anymore - his football or otherwise..

I'll be glad if Aguero's game time becomes an issue. The best FPL player in the prem being confined to bench fodder from time to time would really set the cat amongst the pigeons. Just enough benchers to be a problem pick would be really nice for the FPL game.

Ill be glad also but I doubt it will happen. This uncertainty around him will dissipate as soon as he starts and nets against Southampton.

Yeah. It might have been helpful if the "no Aguero" team had done well against Barca...sadly they got thumped.

Nothing worse for FPL than seeing Aguero sat in just about every single team on here.

Well there are worse things. Personally I think Vardy/Mahrez ruined last season.

When cheap players are must haves and are in every active team its very boring because the number of differentials is reduced.

    Possible Hot Topic?

With the uncertainty surrounding Aguero's playing time, do we need to upgrade our 5th mid just in case Kun doesn't make it onto the pitch?

    Capoue to Allen?

    1. Pochecinno
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 7 months ago

Well there is still a strong difference of opinion on whether Allen even qualifies as a decent 7th attacker. But yes the question is a valid one. Do we need a strong 8th attacker?

    2. Sharpe Shuffle
      • 8 Years

Or if playing 3-5-2, make sure we have a decent 4th defender. This is my current approach

    3. noquarternt

I think most players on here will have a good bench player to cover unexpected absences. Bit worrying all that cash tied up in a rotation-risk...wait and see for now.

If their fixtures after this week weren't so good, I'd be considering moving him on for Costa to fund KDB. As it is, I don't fancy hiding behind the sofa while he takes his frustrations out on Middlesbrough and Palace defences

Yep, very rare over here, no one plays it in school. In primary school they play 'rounders' (soft ball) but then in secondary school it's just football, cricket, rugby. None of my friends like American Sports, I'm the only one. The school teachers over here mock American sports, they call them 'joke sports'

If you have taken a -16 hit would you play the triple captain chip to mitigate some of it. Thanks.

                    My team:

No. Save for a double game week. Your season score is the one that matters. Using it now is short term thinking

Bad logic, the game is not a series of 38 sprints, its just one marathon.

Your triple captain is most likely best used in a double gameweek.

Why are/have people wasted AOA to play Allen/Capoue?

Surely just keep it for an emergency, even if it is a poor chip- there might be a week later where 3 of your defenders are injured.

There's a lot to take in and explore, but if you scroll down a bit to '16/17 GW8 Team Selection and Stats' it has great stuff on team compositions.

Sterling and Lukaku heavily transferred out by the top 10k.

                    Hey all,
Replacing Baines with a FT - money no issue.
Current DEF: Karius/Pickford, Koscielny, Holebas, Evans, Amat, *Baines*

                    A. Clyne (LIV double-up alongside Karius?)
                    B. Fuchs or Morgan
                    C. Other (Spurs, City options)

                      definitely not the first one.

Feel like Kdb is more nailed and more likely to get points.

I can see sterling getting rested with Sané and Nolito there.

KDB is a great option, but not necessary for a hit as in all likelihood Sterling will play. Maybe save the FT if you can get a full team out and reassess soon.
