The Weekend Team News

Theo Walcott will undergo a late fitness test as Arsenal make their way to Sunderland tomorrow lunchtime. Scott Dann is back in contention as Palace entertain Liverpool, whilst Junior Stanislas remains a doubt as Bournemouth travel to ‘Boro.

Theo Walcott is set to be assessed later today with a “very minor” hamstring problem, according to Arsene Wenger. Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal also require late tests, though Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud are back in contention. Lucas Perez is out for six-to-eight weeks with an ankle injury.

Andrew Surman has recovered from illness ahead of Bournemouth’s clash with Middlesbrough. Eddie Howe has admitted he will make “a late call” over the availability of Junior Stanislas, who missed out last week with a calf complaint.

Hull’s Adama Diomande has been charged with violent conduct, following an incident in their midweek cup win over Bristol City. The club have until this evening to reply, with the Norwegian facing three matches on the sidelines if found guilty. Mike Phelan is already without the services of Robert Snodgrass, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury.

Slaven Bilic revealed West Ham “have a few knocks” ahead of their trip to Everton but went on to say “all those who played (in midweek) should all be fit and available for Sunday”. The Hammers boss also confirmed that Andre Ayew is “very close” being able to start after returning from injury in the 2-1 cup win over Chelsea.

Andre Gray is available for Burnley’s trip to Man United after serving a four-match ban. Stephen Ward has recovered from a knock and Sean Dyche is optimstic on George Boyd’s fitness, though Steven Defour remains “touch and go” with a hamstring problem.

Jason Puncheon remains a “slight doubt” for Palace’s clash with Liverpool, though Alan Pardew has confirmed that Scott Dann is now available for selection.

Daryl Janmaat returns to the Watford squad for tomorrow’s visit of Hull. Isaac Success is expected to be ruled out until after the international break, whilst Craig Cathcart, Kenedy and Stefano Okaka all remain sidelined.

Ben Chilwell joins Nampalys Mendy on the injured list for Leicester’s trip to White Hart Lane. Matty James is still unavailable as he builds up his match fitness.

Geoff Cameron is a doubt for Stoke’s clash with Swansea on Monday evening due to a knee problem. Phil Bardsley is likely to miss out – he’s been granted compassionate leave following the death of his grandfather.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

    Coutinho in for Walcott?

Yes, if you fancy Walcott not to play (as I do). His fixtures go South after that anyway

1 FT + 0.3m --- Was simply going to save but with the Walcott news, I feel Allen is good enough this week for 1st sub?

    Foster
    Koscielny - Stones - Pieters
    Sanchez - Walcott - Firmino - Redmond
    Lukaku - Aguero - Deeney

    Jaku - Allen - Friend - Amat

    Arsene Wenger:

    - on the latest team news
From Tuesday night we’ve lost Lucas for a while with an ankle injury. I think he’ll be out for six to eight weeks. We have Giroud back available and Aaron Ramsey will be in the squad. We are [almost] in November, they have not played so it’s good to have them back. We have a few uncertainties over Walcott, Monreal and Cazorla, but they will all have tests today.

    - on Giroud and Ramsey
They are available for selection. I have to be a bit cautious, especially with Aaron Ramsey, because he has not played at all yet. He has only had one week with the team so I will be a bit cautious with him.

    - on Lucas getting injured just as he was getting more minutes
Yes it’s very frustrating because he worked very hard to get there. Of course he is absolutely gutted, because it’s an injury coming from nowhere, and a stupid one, because it was a deliberate kick. It’s a similar tackle to [the one from] Xhaka [against Swansea], but there was no red card. But the red card would not have helped Lucas. What is most important is that he’s out for six to eight weeks.

    - on whether Theo Walcott is ill
No, he is not ill. There is a slight hamstring alert, a very minor one. He will have a test today.

    - on whether Theo will be available to face Ludogorets
He should be OK for Tuesday. If it’s not tomorrow, it’s OK for Tuesday.

    - on Nacho’s injury
He has a little muscle tightness.

When looking at stats, is it a case of the larger the sample the better, or do you sometimes limit your population to more recent fixtures to try and determine an element of form?

    1. DennisLFC08
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 7 months ago

In statistics it is generally accepted that a larger sample gives you more valid data; nevertheless, considering fixtures are timeseries data it would mean that if your time of interest is too long you end up with an average based on gameweeks where the player might have played in different roles or form. So if you choose to look at a longer time period always look at it longitudinally and not cross-sectional to avoid confusing the results. Then again, stats are only indicators, always try to look for the reason behind it and don't expect trends to continue forever, otherwise Capoue would have had about 10 goals by now.
