Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Everton vs Manchester United

After Liverpool’s second-half collapse in a seven-goal thriller at the Vitality Stadium, we now make our way to Goodison Park as Everton entertain Manchester United in the 4pm kick-off.

With five goals in as many outings across all competitions, Zlatan Ibrahimovic carries the hopes of many Fantasy managers heading into this one.

Up against a defence with one clean sheet in nine, the Red Devils’ frontman was the second most captained player in Gameweek 14 with just over 13.1% of Fantasy Premier League managers handing him the armband.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial are rewarded with starts after both excelled in the midweek cup win against West Ham.

The Toffees recent downturn in form saw over 231,000 FPL managers part company with Romelu Lukaku last week alone – only Philippe Coutinho was subject to more transfers out ahead yesterday’s deadline.

Now down to 9.5 in price, the big Belgian has netted just once in the last five Gameweeks compared to six goals in his first seven appearances.

Nonetheless, with United managing just two shut-outs in the previous 10 league matches, Ronald Koeman’s side will be optimistic of getting back amongst the goals today.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

      B. Do you own Hazard? Chelsea have West Brom at hope so Costa/Hazard good captain options. Can always put it on Sanchez who should lead the poll after last 2 weeks but Stoke are solid.

has always lacked brilliant end product, extremely gifted and lively player but inconsistent in front of goal, and stoke's first 4-5 games were woeful as well. last season (the only one where he performed above his norm in last 3-4 years) and actually finished off chances, maybe a reversal to the mean this year... watching the likes of iwobi, barrow, bolasie and others you can sense they are extremely gifted players but just don't have that extra edge in front of goal - marko is a bit better than them but in the same category in my opinion only.

Come on, they haven't been that bad. Last few years they've been awful, but this season they've actually be just fine, clearly have their place in the top7, and not necessarily the worst of that lot.

When they spent the money they spent in the Summer, brought in the manager they brought in during the Summer and loaned the Superstar they did in the Summer, having a place in the top 7 is no way good enough.

But I just put that very mildly. Tbf, they haven't any worse than Arsenal, Southampton and Spurs. Performance wise clearly in contention for the top-4 spot. A little unlucky with low conversion rate explains most of their low position.

Unfortunately it's not performance that counts, it's a results business and Jose is not getting them, he spent enough and brought in the quality to challenge for the title, questions have to be asked of him.

No doubt he'll go all out to win the league cup to buy himself time but he's seriously under performing when you consider he had an open cheque book and used it.

Of course results count in points, but performances count in what we talked about: deserving the points. You deserve points by performing better than opponents, whether you get the points or not, and in the long run performances get results.

Although, where I agree about Mou's performance is that Arsenal, City and Spurs all have CL to take care of, and that gives advantage to Chelsea, Pool and ManU who, if considered to be otherwise equal to the first three, should then lead them in the league.

This is happening with Chelsea and Pool, but not with ManU.

Well, you could argue they have been better than Arsenal and Spurs though, but again you can explain that with CL, and they haven't been as much better as Liverpool and Chelsea have.

Not an excuse but Chelsea and Liverpool have no Europe whatsoever. Utd have Thursday nights. We haven't been good enough but comparing us with those two on those terms is incorrect.

                      Back at this:

the Thursday night EL is a positive factor to a club like ManU that has a huge squad. They can use it to play the guys who don't get enough time in PL to keep them happy and match fit, and possibly even see if some of them would warrant a league appearance. Which is pretty much what they have done as well.

If all other big teams had stood still and spent nothing you would have a point.. fact is all the top teams spent a fortune and top class managers were drafted in by other teams too.. everyone gets stronger.. to be so far off the top 4 at this stage is a concern for sure and no one can defend that but a number of games we have played teams off the park and failed to capitalise.. league position doesn't make for pleasant reading but the brand of football we are playing more often than not has been excellent.. it counts for a lot actually i believe LVG would have been given more time had he not been boring the fans to tears week in week was capable of setting a team up to attack and create tbh.. if individual mistakes can be limited and we can take more of the chances that come are way i only see a huge improvement in terms of results too

They are woeful - only question is - will they spend enough in January to finish 17th? Hull are woeful and I think Burnley will get worse, so those 3 are the front-runners in my opinion for the drop, with Boro and Sunderland just surviving.

If Swansea spend in January they may be able to stay up, but I highly doubt it.

Ayew / Williams / etc. are huge losses.

Siggy is fine with penalties and free kicks and this run of fixtures of course, even if they lose 3-1 or 4-2 a few times, he should contribute to the 1-2 goals.

Fer's anticipation of the ball and his off the ball movement will continue to get him goals as long as he starts IMO
If you have an eye for goal you can't lose it with those upcoming fixtures and he is still 5.1, next week if he scores , he will genuinely contend in that bracket for good through the season.

        • 10 Years

But his lack of eye (or will) to defensive movement may lose him his place in the starting line up in the case that Bradley wants, say, concede less than 4 goals per match.

How many seasons can ManU suffer without making CL? They will already lose some of their massive sponsorship money.

Maureen the arse brought Rashford on for 8 mins, would of got Pieters 6 points off the bench. Only ever get points off the bench when it's 1 or 2 points.

Why chosing Rash over Pieters in the first place?
