Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – West Ham vs Man United

A hectic afternoon with points aplenty will hopefully continue with the tea-time kick-off at the London Stadium.

With Sergio Aguero emerging from the bench to return a goal and potential bonus points at the Etihad, our attention now switches to the red side of Manchester and their own talismanic goalscorer – Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Heavily backed by FPL managers once again, the Swede takes on the Hammers with 24.1% of the Gameweek 20 armbands strapped to his bicep.

Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho recalls Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo at centre-back as two of five changes to his line-up; Henrikh Mkhitaryan earns his second successive start.

For West Ham, Andy Carroll drops to the bench having started the last four Gameweeks. Mark Noble and Andre Ayew also drop out as Pedro Obiang, Manuel Lanzini and Sofiane Feghouli earn starts.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What should I do about this team???

    Heaton Pickford
    Alonso Jones Barragan Nyom Smith
    Sanchez Hazard Lallana Siggy Allen
    Ibra Costa Anichebe
    0.4itb and 1ft

Thinking about WC, or taking a minimum -4 or -8, want to get rid of Pickford, Barragan, smith, nyom(if going AFCON), Siggy, Anichebe.

    Suggestions????

WC given how many changes you need to make. Can you get to:

      Heaton - Grant
      Alonso - Jones - Chambers - Brunt - Ake
Sanchez - Alli - Lallana - Phillips - De Roon
      Ibra - Costa - Lukaku

Don't wildcard. Just do Siggy to someone. Team looks quite good. Maybe a hit in defence if needed

Much better next 3, (swa,BUR,WAT) over (eve,TOT, whm). Wouldn't captain Kun in any of those too. Going Giroud would also give me a Pogba/Philips over Stanislas. What do you guys think?

It's not only about Kun though is it? The difference in price is huge. The Kun under Pep is not the same as the Kun before. Pep could bench him any game tbh.

What's the rationale against wildcarding at this stage FWIW?

I see it to be perfectly possible to wildcard in a good team now, and then as the DGWs become clearer, staging bringing in DGW players closer to the time. Realistically, we probably already have 4-5 DGW players, so it's just a question of planning 5-7 transfers in advance, which is perfectly reasonable.

      1. Speédy
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

I would keep it and get 15 dgw players for my bench boost

        1. Differentiator
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 4 months ago

15 isn't practicable unless you want to have a strongish bench for a few weeks and more distributed funds

      2. diesel001
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

Depends on your situation - if you have lots of injuries, players departing to AFCON, and the odd poor performer then it makes sense to wildcard IMO.

        1. diesel001
          • 7 Years
          7 years, 4 months ago

If you had Pickford, Nyom, Zaha, Mane, Barragan, Evans, Sigurdsson and Anichebe for example then I could understand wildcarding now.

Many people can't see oast the great dgw score they expect, giving no thought to the fact that non Wild carders could also have a good dgw but not as good as theirs, conveniently forgetting that the early wild careers may have gained loads of extra points beforehand

          • 8 Years

Last year I did as set out above, and still had around 12 DGW players for the first DGW. Barely had any negative impact at all

Biggest DGW tends to be GW37. You can WC GW36 and get 10 - 15 DGWers and BB in 37.
        It worked well last season

          • 8 Years

Of course, this also means being stuck with a whole raft of potentially lame players for GW36 and GW38, dependent on how the fixtures fall?

I agree. Another point is that you can take hits to field a DGW powerhouse with less risk than you would by taking them sooner to preserve the wildcard. The players you are bringing in have two opportunities to pay you back in that DGW alone, especially if they can be cheap mids or rotators.

Also, the early wild carder who takes hits for the DGW and the DGW wild carder end up with the same squad at the end of the double gameweek, so if a wild card now will get you a 12-16-20 point boost, there is no point in holding onto it.

Fab point which I also found out last year. If you know a player is going to play, then the cost is only 2 pts base off your single gameweek-er

I've Aguero, Ibra, Costa and still find my midfield quite strong... Sanchez, Alli, Lallana and Phillips

Really hit the jackpot when I bought Phillips for Walcott last week.
This week not so much: Siggy and Kane out for Lallana and Aguero (-4) 🙁

It's nice when they pay off immediately though.

Couldn't agree more with this comment. Took Kane & Cresswell out for Baines & Lukaku last week for -4. Kicking myself last week but this week maybe it's all evened out + I've invested the Kane saving to Carroll > Benteke. Long term thinking is essential

        Heaton (Grant)
        Rose, Holebas, Koscielny, Alonso (Amat)
Phillips, Sanchez (c), Antonio (Zaha*, Marney)
        Ibra, Wilson, Kane

        1FT, 4.5m ITB

Provisional thoughts of doing Zaha > Alli next week, and then Antonio > Coutinho the following. Any other ideas?

I'm giving Mhki one more week. But that move is nice

Yeah, he hasn't played terrible, but Alli right now is playing incredible. Shades of Gerrard almost with those late runs

Pulling the trigger on Cedric->Ake or Brunt. Not losing SV on freaking Cedric.

Thinking same. After everything he has done, no chance of that happening too.

I'm doing the same to Ake this week, then Holebas to Brunt next

I wouldnt. Cedric had a head injury so should probably be back for next game shouldn't he? Then look at his fixtures. Does 0.1 really mean much at this stage of the season?

        Origi to:

        A) Lukaku (very porous opposition next match)
        B) Defoe (just scores goal, but just ok fixtures)
        C) Giroud (in favor again and very much involved)

I think Defoe is a consistent pick and allows extra £ for the midfield.

        Heaton (Pickford)
        Alonso, Chambers, Holebas (Evans, Amat)
        Sanchez, Hazard, Lallana, Phillips (Capoue)
        Ibra, Costa, Origi
        2.6M ITB, 1FT.

I know my defence needs a little bit of work, but think I can get away with it for now.

Thinking Hazard and Origi > Alli and Kane (c) (-4)

Leaves me with £0.1 ITB. Thoughts?

I have a similar team and have just done Origi to Defoe. Something to consider at least.

When will it be 100% verified that Zaha is going or not going to AFCON? One hour prior to Ivory Coasts first game? 🙂
