Monitor – Chris Brunt

A weekend strike against Sunderland took Chris Brunt’s tally to three goals and as many assists in just 13 starts for West Brom this season.

Yet the Irishman’s bandwagon has failed to materialise mainly due to the continued popularity of four-goal team-mate Gareth McAuley, who now resides in 27.9% of Fantasy Premier League squads after grabbing a 12-point tally against the Black Cats.

Often utilised as a winger by Tony Pulis this season, Brunt has netted twice in the last three Gameweeks despite a shift to left-back. Even more impressively, a goal involvement rate of 28.6% when on the pitch is higher than any regular backline option this season.

Considering his classification as a defender in FPL, we assess his latest displays to see just what effect his stint in the Baggies back-four has had on the underlying numbers.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I love the transparency Conte & Klopp have in the transfer window. As an Arsenal fan I'm annoyed by Wenger's secrecy that lets the media 'feed us' with 100% speculation and zero facts.

Bet you weren't annoyed at the secrecy when they announced that they'd signed Ozil and Sanchez.

The only 2 clues we had fom Wenger back then were ''Sure, I'd like to have someone like Sanchez in my team'' as an answer to his co-commentator's question during the WC and that evil smile after being asked about Özil 🙂

Henry and Carragher have been discussing this, he doesn't want to go to Italy, Bayern don't need him, Real and Barcelona are out of the question, there's not many bigger clubs doing better than Arsenal left and they know it.

There's never a case for 5 at the back. Midfielders and attackers will always score the most points in the long run.

In the long run maybe but over the medium term defencive options look bright
How about a back 5 like this

I'm seriously considering Coleman next week to go along side Alonso, Brunt and Rose. It is risky though....I'm surprised you would be willing to take a chance on 4 or 5 at the back with your rank !

What do I do with the 2nd FT I'll have? Amat to Holgate, presuming he keeps his spot? Or keep an FT in reserve again?

    Thanks!

      Nice team

Amat to Holgate or a more secure budget 5th defender from a team with a game in GW26 and GW28 (hopefully one will emerge after the weekends cup games)

Cheers buddy - yeah I had initially had KdB going out for Eriksen but now keeping hold seems to be a better move. Ideally I'd want 2 Spurs but I can't see a way to do it without sacrificing many guys who don't seem worth removing.

Hoping Holgate gets another game 🙂 if that happens, then I'm all good

Cheers Phil! Yeah I think so, Kaku in just looks so straightforward, but what else I do beyond that is still a ?

Yes Lukaku is a very good buy with no blanks.
Maybe Amat to Holgate if it looks like he will keep his place. Could also get Nyom too.

Jones to Mori also a option.
Williams for assured safety of starts.

I have chambers and Jones and most likely getting Mori and Brunt in place of them soon

I did have Nyom, swapped him for Brunt last week when it looked like he wasn't going to play. Which worked out well!

Think Mori is a good choice, but if Koeman keeps doing the 5-3-2 with Holgate that's amazing value...

Will have to see what Jones' security is like on the next gw 🙂

            Thanks for your advice, Phil!

Cheers - he was actually a failed punt from the Burnley game on new year's day that was in the last chance saloon this week. Now (despite the fact his points were v lucky) he's staying for whu SWA bou 🙂

He was going out for Eriksen, but I'm going to keep and forgo the 2 Spurs. Can't see any way to fit that wouldn't get rid of someone that'd weaken my team

Maybe kdB to Eriksen before the blank, but i'd be tempted to bench him, Jones and Sanchez in GW26, and do Ibra to Costa (in three weeks time) to complete your blank week 11.

That's probably what I'm going to do, although obviously I want maximum information before making my trades.

I'll be fine with just 10 players or so that week - I think my ML (which is my main driving factor over OR) will be mostly ignorant of the blanks and could well be fielding 6-7 players that week on average, so as close to 11 as possible!

            Cheers dude.

Timing is everything I guess, thought they looked good against Spurs and should have won.

Lucky goals count the same as pens or 30 yard screemers, also have Alli and the temptation for Eriksen is strong but got a feeling KDB against Swansea could be good.

Yeah for sure. But I wonder whether that will lead to some form? Who knows. Either way, as you say good differential and no way I'm going to ditch prior to SWA 🙂

For sure, very few talked of Alli before his braces, maybe KDB's time is now.

    REPOST

Who should i transfer out for a hit ? pva or chambers to field 11 players ?
Or should i play all out attack ?

    foster, pickford
    jones, pva, chambers, love, amat
    ali, eriksen, lallana, alexis, phillips
    aguero, ibrahimovic, barnes

    1.4 in the bank

    1. Pva to Walker
    2. Chambers to Brunt

I'd say there's a good chance PvA will play. Big transfer in like that, can't see why he'd start on the bench.

      I'd Chambers to Brunt

After the many formations shuffling by the managers, it seems that there are emergence of full backs as wingers of late.

Many players classified as DEF have now function as MID, and even deliver well than the classified MIDs.

So i am daring myself to try a new formation next GW. On paper it is a 5-3-2 but by function it serves as a 2-5-3 (or even 0-6-4 by function if u r smart enough to slot in 5 fullbacks n MIDs playing as FORs)
It's like using AOA chip without actually using it.

Simply play 5 defs with at least 3 of them are of alonso/baines/coleman/rose/walker/brunt.

Further more, since CS are more predictable than the first half of the season, those fullbacks give extra points not only while scoring/assist (which is a plus point), but also during CS (of course their core purpose). By helping their team to attack, they actually keep the opponent to spend time on defending.

The setback of this is we are not sure how long will the managers will keep on deploying their fullback as wingers.

Have you got the same thinking in mind?

Playing defenders who are OOP or justwith the greater attacking potential has always been apparent. Seeing it as a 2-5-3 or 0-6-4 just over complicates things in my mind, but yeah this is a good way of helping to visualise that. Still McAuley over Brunt for me though. Had him since GW1, will still have him in GW38.

The key move here is playing 5 def.

Yes, i do agree that it helps to visualize.

But more to it, it has potential to deliver more points than the usual 3-4-3 or 4-4-2.

    Who to transfer in:
    A) Alli
    B) Eriksen

      I have both.

I'd pick Alli in your case.
