Fixtures

Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 25 – The Strong

Our attentions turn to the upcoming schedule now and, with the expected blanks in Gameweek 28 also taken into account, we’ve picked out the teams best placed to flourish over the next four-to-six rounds of matches.

Chelsea look primed to continue their march towards a fifth Premier League title, while guaranteed fixtures in Gameweek 28 promote players from Hull City, Swansea City and Everton.

Chelsea

(bur, SWA, whm, WAT, sto, CPL)

Having taken four points from encounters against Liverpool and Arsenal, Chelsea are poised for a very kind looking schedule over the next six rounds of matches.

A Gameweek 28 clash against Watford will be rescheduled if the Blues progress past Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup fifth round, but in any case, the other two home fixtures look promising for Eden Hazard and Diego Costa.

Swansea City and Crystal Palace both feature among the four sides conceding the most goals over the last four Gameweeks, with nine and eight respectively.

The three away matches also add to the prospects of the Chelsea attack, although Burnley have kept clean sheets in three of their last four at Turf Moor.

From a defensive perspective, all of the fixtures on the current slate should provide Antonio Conte’s side with the possibility of clean sheets.

The Palace and Burnley match-ups arguably appear the most favourable, given that they’ve scored just two and four goals respectively over the last four Gameweeks.

Marcos Alonso could be on track for further double-digit returns, then, and remains a very strong option for the upcoming period, though the likes of Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta merit consideration as double-up options alongside the raiding wing-back.

Hull City

(ars, BUR, lei, SWA, eve, WHM)

It’s Hull City’s home fixtures over the coming months that should bring their players onto our radar, with matches against Middlesbrough, Watford and Sunderland following this current block.

From a defensive point of view, the clashes against Burnley and Swansea City appear pretty promising, considering that the Clarets have only scored five goals away from home this season, while the Swans rank 20th for shots inside the box over the last four Gameweeks with just 18.

The goal threat offered by Harry Maguire has seen him soar up our Watchlist, while the value offered by goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic will prove hard to ignore, particularly bearing in mind that Hull are one of only six teams currently guaranteed a fixture in Gameweek 28.

At the other end of the pitch, the fixtures against Burnley, Leicester City and Swansea stand out as very favourable.

Burnley have conceded exactly twice in each of their last four encounters on the road, while Leicester have shipped 10 goals over the last four Gameweeks.

Swansea, as already touched upon, are still leaking goals, while the West Ham United match-up also looks reasonable, given that the Hammers have let in six goals in their last three matches.

Marco Silva’s first-choice starting XI hasn’t quite emerged yet, given the number of new faces that arrived at the KCOM Stadium last month, and while their attackers currently look less appealing, the output of players such as Kamil Grosicki, Oumar Niasse and Abel Hernandez could ultimately prove crucial to the Tigers’ bid to avoid the drop.

Swansea City

(LEI, che, BUR, hul, bou, MID)

With a Gameweek 26 trip to Stamford Bridge the only negative, and given that they have a guaranteed fixture against Hull in Gameweek 28, there’s a lot to like in the Swans’ schedule.

With form and fixtures aligning, Gylfi Sigurdsson has to be a key target; he could even be classed as fixture proof after netting against Liverpool and Manchester City.

As previously mentioned, home clashes against Leicester and Burnley are among some of the best fixtures you could ask for with regards to attacking potential. A match-up against Bournemouth is also high on the list, considering that the Cherries have conceded more goals (13) than any other side over the last four Gameweeks.

Fernando Llorente could also be an option for our 15-man squads, then, although owing Sigurdsson is surely the priority. At 4.2, Tom Carroll could also emerge as a budget midfield enabler, while Luciano Narsingh is one to monitor is he can cement a starting role on the back of successive assists as a substitute.

While Swansea have yet to keep a clean sheet under Paul Clement, they may be able to pick up one or two over the coming weeks.

The three home matches all look very favourable, given that Leicester have failed to score in their last four, while Middlesbrough have netted just twice over the same period.

As mentioned, Burnley struggle for goals on the road, while the Hull and Bournemouth match-ups are also fairly reasonable.

With two goals in his last five matches, Alfie Mawson has demonstrated a strong set-piece threat, and looks an interesting option in the budget price bracket.

Everton

(mid, SUN, tot, WBA, HUL, liv)

The outlook for the Toffees remains very favourable in the short-term, particularly with Ronald Koeman’s men guaranteed to host West Bromwich Albion in Gameweek 28.

They do face difficult away fixtures against Liverpool and Manchester United in Gameweeks 30 and 31, though, which is something to bear in mind, but their next five at Goodison Park (SUN, WBA, HUL, LEI, BUR) all look very winnable.

The stage looks set for Romelu Lukaku to continue where he left off against Bournemouth, then, with attacking points looking a strong possibility in four of the next five.

Ross Barkley is also a viable option in midfield, although there may be a squeeze on Everton spots if you want to double-up on the defence.

The Toffees have kept clean sheets in four of their last six, and could add to that tally, particularly over the next two Gameweeks.

Leading options Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines also offer the promise of attacking returns, with the former in a particularly rich vein of form, having produced a goal and three assists in his last four appearances.

The testing away trips to Spurs and Liverpool do perhaps mean the option to double-up on the Everton defence doesn’t look that appealing once the next two matches are out of the way, though.

Also Consider

West Ham United
The major attraction regarding West Ham players is the fact they have a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 28 – away to Bournemouth, while the fixtures around that match (WBA, wat, CHE, LEI, hul) are strong enough to warrant investment.

Providing he can keep playing despite a nagging groin injury, Andy Carroll looks a viable option for our three-man forward lines, while both Michail Antonio and Robert Snodgrass may also be strong options in midfield, with goals expected against Watford, Bournemouth and Leicester in particular.

Slaven Bilic’s side have been inconsistent at the back, but with defensive points looking a reasonable possibility in the majority of the next six matches, Hammers defenders could be worth a look.

Given his goal threat from set-pieces, Winston Reid appears to be the obvious target.

Middlesbrough
The Boro schedule list all the way up to Gameweek 32 (EVE, cpl, sto, SUN, MUN, swa, hul, BUR) appears pretty kind.

The downside is that their strongest fixture in the next six, at home to Sunderland in Gameweek 28, is at risk of being a blank if Aitor Karanka’s men beat Oxford United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

But given ‘Boro’s strength is at the back, there looks to be a decent chance of claiming a shut-out or two over the next month or so, perhaps putting the fit-again Calum Chambers back onto our radars.

Goals remain a problem, though, so it’s unlikely any of their attacking options will attract investment.

Tottenham Hotspur
If Spurs’ Gameweek 28 fixture away to Crystal Palace is rescheduled due to Mauricio Pochettino’s side progressing in the FA Cup, his side will face five on their next seven (STO, EVE, SOT, WAT, BOU) at home, following this weekend’s trip to Anfield.

That would promote both Tottenham defenders and attackers in our thinking, then, although defensive returns look more likely in the later home matches against Watford and Bournemouth.

Kyle Walker should remain a good option in the short-term, though, given his attacking threat, while although the next couple of matches aren’t quite so favourable, Spurs attackers still promise points.

Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli should all remain popular picks, then, although for those who have doubled up, the next three fixtures, and the possibility of a blank mean it’s likely you’ll only be looking to own one of the trio.

That certainly chimes with the recent transfer trends, with Kane, Eriksen and Alli all among the top 12 transferred out so far ahead of Gameweek 25.

Leicester City
It’s the Foxes’ upcoming home fixtures (LIV, HUL, STO, SUN) in particular that have caught our eye, with the prospect of their Gameweek 28 trip to Arsenal being moved no real concern given the difficulty of the fixture.

But with the champions in dire form and with their assets burdened with high price tags, it will need a drastic turnaround for the majority of Fantasy managers to seriously consider the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.

The best scenario would be for the likes of Demarai Gray or Ahmed Musa to nail down a regular starting spot, but that looks unlikely at this point.

If there are signs of improvement at the back, Wes Morgan, now down to 4.7 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), may be one to monitor heading into March and beyond.

What price do you think Sanchez (currently 11.8) will drop to at the GW28 deadline (assuming he will blank GW28)? Will it be a massive drop because lots will sell due to fixtures/blanks, or a limited drop as will be skewed by WCs and people with a lot of other blank players who they may prefer to sell?

They way people have sold him so far, I expect a massive drop.
Looks like he'll go down to 11.7 at least this week, next week prior to blank and with Arsenal probably going through FAcup 5th round the sell rate will be higher so 11.4, I'd say he'll be 11.1 by then.
The only thing that might stop this fall would be Arsenal being eliminated from FAcup, which would stop his fall at about 11.3

      i'm thinking 11.1-11.2.

I would disagree with a 0.3 drop in GW28. Most people who want to sell him would have done so in earlier gameweeks - he'll still be sold by a few, but not in nearly such great numbers.

    9. Darklord_bg

      11.3

11.7 for GW25 and the maximum drop for GW26.

I doubt the ones who chose to save him for GW26 will drop him for 27/28...they will save him until the end.

    It is all about...

    - Fielding 11 in GW 28
    - Wildcarding in GW29 owning only players who have a DGW coming up and focussing on those who have 2 DGWs I.e. Arsenal, City, United, Saints.

People will look back and wish they had adopted this tactic.

Perhaps I should have clarified. I guess it depends somewhat on your team at the moment.

What I meant was I think the optimum time to WC is either GW31 or GW32; and I would steer clear of Soton players, and most United players regardless of the DDGW.

Apart from that I think your idea is much better than WC'ing in GW36

With possibly on 3 fixtures in gw28, how can you even pick a decent 11. Clean sheets means no attacking returns and vice versa. For the sake of a few 1 and 2 pointers, I think holding the WC is best to see whose in form and when and what DGW's there will be

There will be double gameweeks for everyone who doesn't have a fixture in GW28. With the way this season has panned out for the top 6, you can pretty much load up on their players in the knowledge that they will do well for the remaining 10 weeks and have the double coming up. Any minor tweaks come down to normal gameweek management.

I can get 10 in my team to start GW28 without taking a hit. Personally I don't think it's worth taking a hit to get a mid or a striker from one of the 3 fixtures. I'm going to switch Sanchez to Hazard after this week and deal with him missing one match because he has nice fixtures around the blank. WC GW32 is the way to go.

Cannot choose between Ibra and Sanchez cap.

Hull and Watford are both resurgent but Hull especially with keeping consecutive CS against Utd and Pool.

Sanchez is more explosive no doubt and has the extra point for goal + CS, Ibra however is more favoured to score with the bookies.

I feel like if I punt on Jesus that Pep will screw that one up for me too?

worth the playing time risk considering his form and next 2 fixtures, I can manage the blanks I thinkbut if he isn't nailed....?

I think that I'm somehow going to end up with 11 players in GW28.

    - I have 5 right now.
    - Lovren to Brunt this week will be worth a hit as my defense is gash this week.
    - Pogba to anyone next week is a given, and I think that Grant or Pickford to Jakupoo will also be worth a hit
    - The leaves me with two free transfers to ditch Holebas and Barnes, leaving a keeper, Alonso, Snach, Alli and Ibra as my only players sitting out GW28

Its a couple of measured 4 pointers, but quite happy with that.

      Current players

      Jak
      Baines
      Coleman
      Brunt
      McCauley
      Phillips
      Siggy

      4 transfers in hand...

Ibra - Kun - De roon - TBC

      Lukaku - Llorente/Carroll - TBC - TBC

People seriously afraid of Hull defense now all of a sudden? Like that time Capoue was going to score a goal ad infinitum. San(c)hez is mad as hell now and he wont take it anymore. Fug Hull and the horse they rode in on.

I hope Sanchez smashes it and rewards his captaincy.
Watching Arsenal trying ineffectively to find a way through a weaker team again would be disappointing

Key to this is "again" Arsenal have struggled in some decent fixtures this season, Hull have become more stubborn.

Not Afraid, but have shut out Liverpool & United in the last two games. Maybe a reflection upon them two teams rather than Hull though, Liverpool you just have to put ten behind the ball.

I think I just talked myself out of Ibra captain.

I think you mostly talked yourself out of Sanchez captain too!
So we are afraid that Hull and Watford will not let Arsenal and ManUtd perform.
I think I'll still probably go Sanchez and hope Arsenal score early to make Hull open up a bit

This is the only potential issue for those focusing on getting XI out for GW28 already. If there are a few cup shocks, then no-one wiill have difficulty fielding XI. And those with teams full of those we already know are playing in GW28 will have a bit of a disadvantage this week.

There is likely to be no shocks. Possibly 1. The fixtures are just too heavily weighted.

What would be your ideal WC if you have to do it this week?

      Grant
Walker - Alonso - Coleman - David Luiz
      Eriksen - Sanchez - Siggy
      Jesus - Lukaku - Carroll

      Jaku - Snodgrass - Nyom - NDoye

      Jesus to Costa (26)
      27 no FT
28 David Luiz to Baines and play 9
      Thoughts?

So I've decided to go with the ultimate differential for the next couple of weeks - NO LUKAKU.

Not because he's not awesome, just because I really like how my team looks since I've traded Coutinho out for Jesus. I've now got a key attacking player from each of the top six, plus a premium defence. Jesus has also finally forced a switch from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2. I'm liking the balance. Of course, once Rose is back it will screw up everything, but sounds like he's out for another few weeks. I'll probably fold and trade Lukaku in for Ibra for round 26, but I will leave it as late as possible as I want to buy Ibra back and don't want to pay extra.

      Until then, I'm rocking this:

      Grant
      Alonso, Azpilicueta, Walker, Davies
      Hazard, Sánchez, Firmino, Eriksen
      Ibrahimovic, Jesus

      Jakupovic, T.Carroll, Barnes, Holgate

      Anyone else going Lukaku-less?

      1. greghammer95
        • 14 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

I'd have Lukaku over Jesus at the moment. Can't be bothered with Pep's rotation.

Easy to say though when I got him in last week and captained. I'd normally fear chasing points but not in this situation.

Congrats on the mega points haul. Last round I had the chance to understand how the non-owners felt when Sanchez and Alonso had their mega hauls. But there has to be some excitement in this thing, and sometimes that comes from sticking to your guns.

Cheers yeah I'll be sure to field a full team for round 26. But screw round 28. I play this game to fulfill my awesome team fantasies, and pick up some points along the way. My awesome team fantasies are not full of players from Bournemouth, Hull and West Ham. But if yours are, enjoy the points.

I try for max points & almost every mistake made is a punt or attachment to individuals/history (Aguero), but good luck. Each to their own - definitely sympathise with no Lukaku.

Andy Carroll has been talking to Talk Sport today and stated he is looking forward to playing in front of Gareth Southgate against West Brom as he is pushing for an England place. He must therefore be fit !

He's always okay to play, he's just carrying a groin injury so every week, he comes off, they flag him because of this knock and so on and so on. He will play, but the injury could become more serious toward the end of the season

Neither because Gw26, Spurs play and if I had to put money on Spurs or Fulham, if pick Fulham which means Spurs might not blank at all.

And why would you put money on Fulham to beat Spurs?

Because Spurs are Spurs. I'm dreading the same thing as a man who owns only one Spud atm.

Don't know but he could get 4/1 if he wants to put money on it....

They barley won the 4th round. With Europe and the league, they won't be bothered with the FA Cup and Fulham will be all out to make to next round. Spurs are from assured to progress

Yup haha. That's the only problem with what you propose. GW34 will be a huge mix.

No blanks, I'm afraid. Those in the Cup Semis who miss the weekend will have, by definition, already had a postponement - so they will almost certainly play midweek and still have one match this GW.

Will the FAC semi finalists have to play GW34 midweek or could they possibly be sent to GW37 for instance?

The current thinking on Stanislas seems to be that he'll go back in the team again, but is he now a rotation/drop risk going forward? He seems like one of their best players this season.
