Selection

Spot the Differential – Gameweek 25

After two of last week’s selections, Everton’s Ross Barkley and Watford’s Troy Deeney, provided instant returns in Gameweek 24, we’re hoping our latest picks can follow suit.

This time around, we’ve plumped for a trio of budget midfielders, with two also benefitting from the fact their teams are guaranteed to play in Gameweek 28.

Josh King

Although the main headline-maker from that thrilling nine-goal contest at Goodison Park last weekend was Lukaku, the part played by Bournemouth’s Josh King shouldn’t be forgotten.

The Norwegian international, who played as the lone striker for Eddie Howe’s side, scored twice for the visitors, and collected 13 FPL points.

When looking at King’s underlying statistics, he’s impressively ranked joint-fourth among midfielders for shots inside the box over the last four Gameweeks with eight, while he’s also created three chances over the same period.

So while it was Junior Stanislas who attracted plenty of investment following his form over the festive period, it could now be King who represents the strongest attacking option for Bournemouth.

Available at just 5.3 in FPL, King will on Monday night face a Manchester City side who’ve shipped seven goals in their last four matches, while the Cherries also have a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 28 – at home to West Ham United, and also host Swansea City a week later.

While he may at times be used in the attacking midfield positions if Howe decides to hand a recall to Benik Afobe as the lone striker, King, who now has six goals to his name this season, looks an intriguing option based on recent form and that Gameweek 28 fixture.

For those needing to free up some cash in midfield, then, King could present a handy solution, and with an ownership of only 1.2% in FPL, he also provides plenty of upside as a differential if he can build on that brace against Everton.

Ademola Lookman

While he was unable to produce any attacking returns in Everton’s 6-3 victory over Bournemouth last weekend, Ademola Lookman did play his part in an dazzling offensive display from the Toffees on his first Premier League start.

Lookman registered two shots from inside the box, and while some of his more illustrious team-mates such as Romelu Lukaku, Ross Barkley and Seamus Coleman are stealing the limelight at the moment, the 5.4-priced midfielder perhaps shouldn’t be slept on.

Bought from League One side Charlton Athletic last month for a fee of around £11 million, the 19-year-old attacker made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut as a late substitute in the 4-0 win over Manchester City.

This afternoon he’ll come up against a Middlesbrough side that rank joint-first for big chances conceded over the last four Gameweeks with 10, while they’re also joint-fourth for shots conceded from inside the box over the same period with 40.

That looks a favourable match-up for the red-hot Everton attack, then, and with their upcoming schedule (SUN, tot, WBA, HUL) remaining very kind over the coming weeks, including a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 28, Lookman could be a viable budget option.

The youngster could still be a slight rotation risk, given he only started for the first time last week, but should the Toffees produce another emphatic win at the Riverside Stadium, he could be able to keep his place in the side over the longer term.

With an ownership of just 0.1% in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Lookman is the ultimate differential then, although one probably only likely to be gambled on by truly maverick Fantasy managers.

Adnan Januzaj

With Sunderland manager David Moyes revealing Adnan Januzaj should be available for this afternoon’s home clash against Southampton, we’re happy to back the young Belgian as our final choice.

Restored to the starting XI against Crystal Palace, playing in a central attacking midfield role behind lone striker Jermain Defoe in a 3-5-1-1 formation, Januzaj was at the heart of all the Black Cats’ attacking play, and finished up with two assists in the comprehensive 4-0 win.

Confidence should be high for Sunderland heading into today’s match, while the opposite can be said for Southampton, who have conceded five goals in two matches in the absence of the injured Virgil van Dijk.

So Januzaj, who’s now available at just 5.3 in FPL, may be able to build on an encouraging outing at Selhurst Park, with his relationship with striker Jermain Defoe flourishing further.

The 22-year-old is only owned by 0.5% of FPL bosses, so while investment would present something of a gamble, the success of players such as Peter Crouch and James Morrison over recent weeks indicates that the budget bracket should not be ignored.

Been on Jesus all week mate, think I should just leave it and like you say MNF is another reason i'm leaning towards him.

Boro should keep it tight against Everton, Hull are defending well and Sánchez/Arsenal aren't firing, Ibra could kill it but you know United can have those low scoring games a bit too often.

And I think owning Siggy is enough for me this week.

        Jesus it is 😉

Can I just point out that Arsenal weren't firing in the two games leading up to Sanchez destroying West Ham.

Blanks against Spurs and United were followed up by mass sales (largely driven by this site) and a mass haul.

More of the same today would be nice.

I can see Arsenal winning 1-0 with a late Sanchez or Welbeck winner. Don't think Ozil, Sanchez and Walcott are early kick-off players. If this was Saturday night then I would give Sanchez the armband no doubt.

It would be interesting if you had some early kick off examples, I can only remember one in the NLD last year where he scored.

Haven't really looked much in to it, any chance of seeing your research please?

Morning Gents - could do with a bit of advice ...

I currently have Valdes between the sticks, but I have some cash and an FT to spare (sorted out my player blanks and am happy with current squad moving forward).

Who do you reckon would a 'great' choice to put in goal for the rest of the season? I'm leaning towards Courtois, but De Gea is another fine option. I know Heaton is a favourite on here, but I'd like someone I can just put in and forget. My ML rival has Courtois and he has really racked up the points for him. Should I just follow suit or would you recommend another?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

However if you want to go with a top 4 side. Chelsea should be the route as they should be looking to grind out some wins to assure the league. So courtois.

To navigate the blanks, get Jaku in...pretty much the cheapest keeper, can be your 2nd playing keeper

For a first keeper, Heaton's the only choice...largely fixture-proof, bap/save point machine, PPG higher than any keeper...still sub-5m too

I was actually willing to go without a keeper for 28 as I reckon I'll have 9 anyway - didn't want a blank gw to influence my decision on a season keeper. I reckon that's solid reasoning.

Sanchez (vc), Siggy, Phillips (Fletcher, T. Carroll)
      Zlatan (c), Costa, Lukaku

      A. Good to go; or
      B. Lenihan to Coleman (-4)

Not B. I have Coleman (and Baines) so will probably result in 2 points.

West Ham will monitor Andy Carroll, who is nursing a minor groin problem.

I've known that for a week now. All I want to know is if he will start or not.

Only Bilic knows. I personally think he will. They will want to keep a Winning side.

This is how my GW 28 team is looking. I'm 5 transfers away.

      Jaku

      Coleman - Brunt - Robertson - Fernandez

      Snodgrass - Siggy - Stanislas - Chadli

      Lukaku

Bench: Grant - Sanchez - Kane - Costa - Alonso

      How about you?

        Currently

        Jaku

        Coleman, Baines, Brunt

        Siggy, TCarroll, Phillips

        Lukaku

Bench Heaton, Ibra, Costa, Sanchez, Eriksen, Yoshida, Alonso

...planning to convert Yoshida to Mawson or Maguire to give me 9 definites...will then wait to see what blanks are actually confirmed before I decide Eriksen's fate...not going for a full 11

        Looking to get to:

        Jaku
        Baines - Brunt - Holgate
        Carroll - Phillips - Sigurdsson - (Eriksen)
        Lukaku - Rondon - (Ibra)

        Grant - Sanchez - Mustafi - Luiz

Can achieve that team with three transfers so am happy waiting for the FA Cup results next weekend.

        Foster
        Coleman Baines Brunt
        Sigurdsson Snodgrass
        Lukaku

Looking at Mee > Hull defender and/or de Roon > Hull mid

Benching Pickford Alonso Sanchez Alli Jesus Ibra

So 7 already in place, maybe push to 9 but already questioning the value of both transfers

As it stands I can field 11 with no hits if I want to. But it's all moot because there will be more than 3 games in GW28 more likely than not.

      About captainicy.
Some managers don't like captains in early kickoffs, some doesnt like captains with away games. I don't like my captain to play in sunshine. It's clowdy in London today so it will be Sanchez for me..

What do you take in consideration?

Yeah the bookies are actually pretty good if you ignore the consistent Aguero, Ibra choices no matter the fixtures.

Yes, but apart from the most obvious ones like pens, fixtures etc. I also like Sanchez since Arsenal really have to bounce back from two defetes!

      Current team

      GK: Pieters, Ben forster

Def: McCauley, Ashley williams, Pieters, Chambers, Phil Jones

Mid: Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Ali, Matt Philips, De Roon

      Str: Lukaku, Kane, Defoe

Made one sub already - Sigurdsson for Eriksen

Now i am considering making Kane to Ibra for -4 because my main competitor has lbra and if he caps him and goes big i could fall further behind.

So please YES or NO Ibra in for kane (-4)
