City Enjoy Potential Double Gameweek 27

Manchester City have this afternoon announced news that potentially sets up a double Gameweek 27.

The Premier League fixture bulletin published by City confirms that, should City progress past Huddersfield in their FA Cup replay, their fixture with Stoke City will shift back from March 11, to March 8.

This would move it from Gameweek 28 to within Gameweek 27. Pep Guardiola’s men would, therefore, face a trip to Sunderland, paired with that home tie with the Potters – a hugely appealing double header.

Mark Hughes’ side, meanwhile, would host Middlesbrough prior to visiting the Etihad.

The news completely transforms the current landscape of fixtures and impacts our short-term strategies.

City will face Huddersfield in their replay next Wednesday and, should they progress to the last eight of the FA Cup as expected, the double Gameweek 27 will be confirmed.

This will immediately promote their assets – particularly in attack – and likely re-align our plans ahead of Gameweek 28.

Certainly, City’s display in last night’s Champions League win over Monaco serves as a handy showcase for the form of their attacking talents.

With Gabriel Jesus now stuck in the treatment room for two-to-three months, Sergio Aguero retuned to form with a bang and his two goals and assist against the French outfit will have many now forging plans for his acquisition.

Should City progress, the allure of handing Aguero the armband in a double Gameweek will prove irresistible for many.

The performances of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane on either side of the Argentine last night won’t have gone unnoticed either.

Both bagged a goal and assist against the Ligue 1 club and, with form very much on their side, offer more budget-friendly options at £7.8m and £7.5m respectively in FPL for those who may baulk at Aguero’s £12.7m price tag.

Serving up a goal or assist in eight of his last ten league outings, Sterling has proven to be one of the most consistent midfield picks in recent months, while Sane’s two goals and a pair of assists in five underlines the German’s improved showings on the flank.

With Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and spot-kick taker Yaya Toure also vying for our attention, there’s plenty for us to consider if City can clinch that spot in the last eight next midweek.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

They dont have a blank in gw28. The will play Boro (from gw35). read the tweet again 😉 Plus Liverpool doesnt have great defence. So 2-3 gws is not too bad.

I think this is the first time this season when doing an early transfer has come back to bite. Still not totally sure that it is the case, though. I can see the logic of using a free to get a Man City player and captain him - but to get two seems like a case of gaining an advantage in GW27 but immediately giving it back in GW28.

I'd need to have used it to get 11 out this week anyway.. I done Pogba -> Coutinho, probably would have done Sanchez -> Coutinho instead to free up funds to get Aguero for free

That's what I mean - I can't see people getting a Stoke or Man City player instead had they known, or even saving a transfer. The only possible change most would make would be to get a cheaper Liv mid to free up funds for a Man City player.

If city had lost to Huddersfield and had a GW28 fixture many people would have bought at least one city player (especially after their freescoring performance last night)

This DGW is even better because you can get Aguero or someone else for DGW and then still replace at least one (maybe 2) city players for the blank GW28...

Surprised people are saying they wont bring in any city players because of blank 28...

    1. Holmes
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

No point in taking a hit to bring them and take a hit to remove them? Thats -8pts which is equivalent to couple of goals...

If its easy to add, then worth picking

      1. TOBY1
        • 7 Years

I want sterling anyway so will probably just bench one of them in gw28

I can't get a full 11 in 28 anyway and I'd rather be using FT's on city players than the mediocre players that have GW28 fixtures..

    2. Ibracadabra
      • 15 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

For me - it is probably worth it to bring in one City player, maximum 2. It just means going with 8 for GW28 instead of 10 and using 1-2 free transfers instead on the City DGW for a captain option like Aguero/Sterling/KDB...

    A) Aguero, Sterling, Pieters, No Ibra for GW 27; 10 players in GW 28

    B) 2 City midfielders, Pieters and Ibra for GW 27; 9 players in GW 28
