Eliteserien Fantasy- A New Game From the Developers of FPL

Did you think your summer would be dull without fantasy football? Fear not. The developers of Fantasy Premier League have launched a brand new game called Eliteserien Fantasy.

The game will feature the Norwegian top divison. The site is currently only in Norwegian but it is fairly easy to register and use if you are used to FPL.

The concept and rules are the same as FPL, the only differences being no chips and there’s a  ‘man in the stand’  for bonus points.

The season will have 30 Gameweeks between April and November. A third of the season will be played during the off-season in FPL so this game could soften the summer blow for Fantasy Footy junkies.

Already 58 players have  joined the FFS league, including FPL legend Ville Rönkä. The league code is: 3769-1041

In this article I will take a look at the 16 teams and the players to keep an eye on.

Rosenborg

Having won ‘the double’ two seasons in a row, there is no doubt who is the gigantic fish in this pond. Both league titles have been comfortable with a tally of 69 points, an average of staggering 2.3 points per game. The Rosenborg domination is set to continue with the acquisition of Nicklas Bendtner (12.5). Not only is the insane Dane the most expensive player in the game, he currently also sits in over half the teams.

Mixed results and a few injuries during the pre season, there remains uncertainty around the form of their key players. Rosenborg meet Brann in a face off between last year’s top two teams on March 29. This may give us some answers, or pose more questions as it will be the first of four games Rosenborg play in 10 days. This fixture congestion could be a good reason to overlook the pricey Bendtner for now.

Top 3 targets: Mike Jensen (10.5 MID), Fredrik Midtsjo (8.5 MID), Nicklas Bendtner (12.5 FWD)

Brann

After a shock relegation despite being title contenders in 2014, Brann bounced straight back up the following year. They used that momentum and enjoyed a successful return to the top division, eventually finishing second. Brann’s excellent defence is expected to do well this season as well, especially as Piotr Leciejewski (5.5) might be the best goalkeeper in the league. Early investment in Brann players could pay dividends as their opening few fixtures seem favourable.

Top 3 targets: Fredrik Haugen (9.0 MID), Vito Wormgoor (5.5 DEF), Torgeir Børven (9.0 FWD)

Odd

Starting last season with six consecutive clean sheets, Odd laid the foundations for what turned out to be a third place finish and Europa League qualification. The last 24 games only saw three additional clean sheets but Odd will nonetheless provide excellent defensive options. Espen Ruud (6.5) might prove to be the most essential player in the game. To go along with his nine clean sheets, the right back also managed five goals and eight assists last season.

Top 3 targets: Espen Ruud (6.5 DEF), Fredrik Nordkvelle (9.0 MID), Sondre Rossbach (5.5 GK)

Haugesund

Expect the unexpected when Haugesund are playing. One season they battle for the Europa League places, the next they fight for survival. Given they finished fourth last season, this year their assets may be best avoided! Defensively Haugesund are not much to write home about. Their midfielders have to bear the burden if they are to replicate last year’s form.

Top 3 targets: Haris Hajradinovic (7.5 MID), Erik Huseklepp (8.5 MID), Ibrahim Shuaibu (5.0 FWD)

Molde

Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s second period as Molde manager has failed to reach the heights of his first stint at the club thus far. Back then he led Molde to back-to-back titles, whilst his latest reign has resulted in 6th and 5th placed finishes. With a wealth of options in every position, picking the right Molde players could be a minefield. Solskjær’s preferred tactic seems to be resting players from time to time. Heavy investment in Molde’s assets is probably best avoided to start with.

Top 3 targets: Bjorn Sigurdarson (9.0 FWD), Sander Svendsen (8.5 MID), Mattias Mostrom (6.5 MID)

Sarpsborg

A stable mid table team for the last couple of seasons, Sarpsborg normally go about their business quietly. They do not concede many but they do not score that many either. In fact, their most prolific attacker finished 40th in terms of attacking returns last season. Big things are therefore expected of the attacking minded Krepin Diatta (6.0), an easy on the eye Senegalese U20 international who arrived last month. A Sarpsborg defender could be a must have as they managed 13 clean sheets in the last campaign, with nine of them coming on home soil.

Top 3 targets: Krepin Diatta (6.0 MID), Sigurd Rosted (5.5 DEF), Jonas Lindberg (5.5 FWD)

Strømsgodset

After being a top side since the beginning of the decade, Strømsgodset found themselves finishing mid table last season. They produce fluent attacking play and are a joy to watch, especially at home. Jonathan Parr (6.0) provides us with a potential OOP option. Listed as a defender, the former Crystal Palace and Ipswich left back played a lot on the left wing last autumn. The signing of the experienced left back Stian Ringstad (5.5) could mean a permanent shift to the wing for Parr.

Top 3 targets: Jonathan Parr (6.0 DEF), Marcus Pedersen (10.5 FWD), Lars Vilsvik (6.0 DEF)

Viking

There is not much buzz around Viking at the moment. Kwesi Appiah (7.0) has been signed on loan from Crystal Palace. Despite only being 26, this will be the striker’s sixteenth club in his senior career. Whether he can settle in and finally make it count remains to be seen. With an unfavourable set of fixtures to start the season, overlooking Viking options for the opening might be the best solution.

Top 3 targets: Kwesi Appiah (7.0 FWD), Julian Ryerson (4.5 DEF) Samuel Adegbenro (7.5 MID)

Aalesund

Highest goalscorer from last season still in the league this term is Mos (8.5). He will undoubtably be key this year as well but he is not the only threat Aalesund pose. Most of their goals in the pre season have come from set pieces. Centre back Mantyla has scored three goals without even starting a game but it is another centre back stealing the limelight. Daniel Gretarsson (5.0) has also scored three goals from his four starts this winter. However, Aalesund do concede a lot of goals so any defensive investment has to be purely because of their set piece threat.

Top 3 targets: Mos (8.5 FWD), Edwin Gyasi (7.5 MID), Daniel Gretarsson (5.0 DEF)

Vålerenga

Being the only representation from the capital, Vålerenga have failed to live up to expectations for a good few years. This season they have hired the services of former Celtic manager Ronny Deila. An attacking minded leader, Deila made his name at Strømsgodset where he took the team to league glory in 2013. After years of struggle to get permission and finances to build their own stadium on their side of the city, Vålerenga will finally be moving to their new home mid season. This will likely give them a solid boost throughout the season.

Top 3 targets: Ghayas Zahid (10.5 MID), Mohammed Abdellaoue (9.5 FWD), Markus Nakkim (5.0 DEF)

Sogndal

Gilbert Koomson (7.5) was the only assister in the league to reach double figures last season. However, that is a steep price tag for a player in a team that most likely will be in for a relegation battle. Sogndal had a good defence last season but the latest results in pre season do not exactly look encouraging. Still, if they can replicate some of that defensive form then they have several decent budget options in their team.

Top 3 targets: Matias Dyngeland (4.5 GK), Bjørn Utvik (4.5 DEF), Gilbert Koomson (7.5 MID)

Lillestrøm

Celebrating their 100 years anniversary, Lillestrøm will be hoping they avoid the dogfight this time around. They were dead and buried with five games to play but managed to survive by collecting 11 points from those games. Most of the players are very generously priced, probably reflected by last year’s finish. Lillestrøm should be competing for a place in the upper half of the table. If they manage to do that then there are a few potential bargains in their squad. Daniel Fernandes (4.0) has impressed in pre season, if he can nail done a starting spot then that provides us with an excellent budget goalkeeper.

Top 3 targets: Daniel Fernandes (4.0 GK), Bajram Ajeti (6.5 FWD), Chigozie Udoji (6.0 MID)

Tromsø

Defensively Tromsø are not a good unit. The onus will be on their attacking play. People will recognise Morten Gamst Pedersen (5.5) from his time at Blackburn. After struggling with injuries last season, the set piece specialist is set to claim a place in the centre of midfield. Some calmness in the middle of the park may be exactly what Tromsø need as their passing accuracy of 68.7 % was the worst in the league.

Top 3 targets: Aron Sigurdarson (6.5 MID), Sloboan Vuk (7.0 FWD), Morten Gamst Pedersen (5.5 MID)

Stabæk

Stabæk were favourites to go down in 2015 but thanks to the heroics of Bob Bradley they managed to finish third. During that summer they lost top scorer Adama Diomande to Hull, whilst Bradley left before the 2016 season. Stabæk barely recovered from those losses and somehow just about managed to survive. They are in for another tough season but they do have a couple of cheap prospects to keep an eye on.

Top 3 targets: Moussa Njie (5.5 MID), Luc Kassi (6.0 MID), Hanche-Olsen (4.5 DEF)

Kristiansund

Thirteen years after the club was formed, Kristiansund won the second tier and gained promotion to the top division for the first time. The promotion campaign was thanks to a good defence and a red hot striker. Daouda Bamba (6.5) scored 20 and assisted twice in 28 games. The Ivorian is young and fearless, and is sure to be amongst the goals also in this league.

Top 3 targets: Daouda Bamba (6.5 FWD), Aliou Coly (4.5 DEF), Sean McDermott (4.0 GK)

Sandefjord

Also gaining promotion prior to this season, Sandefjord are favourites to go straight back down. Genuine fantasy options are therefore far and few between, however they might provide a couple of bench fodder options. Seven defeats and no clean sheets in nine pre season games tells they are in for a very rough ride.

Top 3 targets: Erik Mjelde (6.0 MID), Andre Sødlund (4.5 MID), Flamur Kastrati (6.0 FWD)

    Draft #1000

    Fernandes / McDermott
    Ruud / Wormgoor / Stolas / Ryerson / Moe
    Helland / Zahid / Adegbenro / Koomson / Sodund
    Occean / Mos / Mortensen

Was a fun weekend , back to fpl (mainly) now 🙂

Nice team. Would rather have Rosted than Stolas, Haugesund defence not the best is what I've seen here. Ryerson fixtures are a bit shanty too, maybe Utvik is a better option? Nice midfield though. How nailed is sodlund, out of curiosity? And what made you pick Mortensen, is he any good? Asking for my own team 🙂
How would you rate the current draft? Not sure where to invest that last 0.5, or whether to invest it at all.
      0.5ITB
      Fernandez / Dyngeland
Ruud Hedenstad Rosted Wormgoor / Moe
Haugen Nordkvelle Koomson / Njie (Most nailed 4.5 I can find)
      Bendtner Abdellaoue Lindberg.

Mortensen had the second most shots in the box per game last season , that's my reason for picking him as a differential.
Stolas is another punt , Rosted doesn't have the goal/assist threat he has potentially even if Stolas is playing LB. Ryerson may play OOP so stays. Sodlund may change , is just a placeholder 4,5m

Obviously Bendtner screws up your midfield but like the overall team. The GK rotation is very good , defence is great , don't like Nordkvelle (based on stats) , can you afford Adegbenro?

Yeah I normally don't like one highly priced player screwing my team balance up a la Aguero, but I feel like because I hardly know this league and his ownership is so high i have to start off with Bendtner at least. I can get Adegbenro if I downgrade Lindberg to Lorentzen and go Zekhnini instead of Nordkvelle. It would give me a front eight of
          Haugen Zekhnini Koomson Adegbenro Johansen/Heintz/Etc
          Bendtner Abdellaoue Lorentzen.
Would give me a weak bench but I suppose I can pray that Bendtner is useless and I can transfer him out later for some comfort cash.
Is Adegbenro really worth it? He has some bad fixtures coming up I think. Nice tip about Mortensen by the way, he'll be on my watch list now.

There is one hole in this one. I have not ranked every fixture. Ex: A fixture like kristiansund vs Tromso cannot be easy for either as both are crap. So do think about it before making decisions.

Alright, I made a fixture difficulty rankings using outrights odds, last season's rankings (points, goals scored, goals conceded) and last season's expected goals numbers. By no means I suggest that these are correct rankings but I will use it myself for now, and will update it regularly throughout the season, using expected goals and other statistics.

I think Holm is injured now. Also Vålerenga has bought Finne and Keita (not updated on game yet). Stengel could also get some games. At the moment holm is both injured and is a big rotation risk. But will be watching him as I think he is a very good player. He just gets injured a lot.

Front 6 will probably be something like this:

                Grindheim - Lekven
                Finne - Zahid - Keita
                Moa

Holm is injured for about 6 weeks, it´s an ACL according to a norwegian website

He is battling against Helland to be the most injury prone player in the Norwegian Eliteserie. Would stay clear of him,. Better options elsewhere.

Mostafa Abdellaloui is a poacher in front of goal, does not create a lot on his own, but do have penalties as well. As to that he is dependent on his team to perform well, and that´s probably why Gjelstads Eleven doesn´t fancy him, because you never know which Aalesund would turn up. They are either below substandard, in other words awful, or they can be pretty much firing on all cylinders. He is a decent shot in the first to gameweek, from a fixturelist point of view.

@Unitedfan I didn't see that you asked about Stromsgodset's defence on the previous page yesterday. They only kept 8 clean sheets least season and were atrocious away from home, 2nd worst in the league. Vilsvik got returns (goal/assist/clean sheet) in 13 games (out of 29) and 10 of those were at home. So definitely not essential because of poor away returns, but good pick if he can keep his goals and assist numbers up there. Season before they were again very good at home, but decent away too so maybe last season wast just one off.

If someone who knows the team better wants to give their thoughts on this it would be appreciated.

Hedenstad right at the beginning has a ton of matches, only reason I would put him behind the others in terms of ranking. They're all supposed to be good. Unitedfan, would you downgrade Rosted to Albeck if Albeck plays? Saves 0.5, plus Sarpsborg defender is for cs only, I don't want to invest so much on just cs if I can spend less.

Albech played the full 90 in their last friendly, and scored their first goal on a header (against a local rival playing in the division below them). I just transferred him in.

Ruud for the whole season. then two of Vilsvik Wormgoor Rosted - Brann And Sarpsborg have tasty fixtures and likely to cs, Vilsvik for attacking threat

Geez the more I look up S08 defenders the more I realize it's a hornests nest.
All of them are good enough to play, most of them are very versitaile and can play different possitions. Some can play on 4 different places.
All seem to be quite inury prone as well.
Both 4.5 would be starters in quite a few other teams in this league would be my guess.

        Don't wanna pay Rosteds price....

I didn't realize how good S08's fixtures were to be honest. Dropping 4th mid and getting Rosted as a 4th defender could be an option.

Aye, but the dream scenario is that Sundli nails down the spot next to Rosted..... Would not dent my set midfield.

When Hansen (5.0) is back from injury he could be a good option. Has been scoring some goals in the past seasons. I have no idea about when he is fit or if he is nailed anymore. Rosted was a 4.0 player last season in other fantasy game.

Looks like S08 didn't really have a natural left back last season so some of their centre backs and their left backs filled in there. Like they had a competition before very game and the loser went to left back. 😀 Albech should be first choice, but probably won't play every game.

Back to 4-3-3 Despite the wealth of midfield options... Fingers crossed Bendtner does terrible so I can reinvest his money in the midfield. Until then...

        0.5 ITB

        Fernandez / Dyngeland
Ruud Hedenstad Wormgoor Albeck? / Moe
Haugen Zekhnini Koomson / Njie Johansen
        Bendtner Abdellaoue Mortenson

I'm confused with my Sarpsborg defender pick now. Who to go for? Is it worth upgrading Njie to Krogstad with the extra money? Just feels wrong to have two cheap midfield options.

Børven is probably gonna start against Tromsø, but you should keep in mind that Brann will change their striker to suit their opponent a lot this season (as well). Brann has four strikers that are all gonna get several minutes this year.

I think Haugen is a good choice however, he's been looking sharp all winter.

      20. MTPockets

I'm in. Have gone through the 7 pages & 1st draft (don't want Bendtner):

          Fernandes Dyngeland
          Ruud Ryerson Mikalsen Lundstrom Moe
          Jensen Midtsjo Zahid Koomson Njie
          Abdellaoue Mos Lindberg

Look ok? Two Rosenborg mids too much given 'fixture congestion'?

          1. UnitedFan
            • 8 Years
            7 years, 1 month ago

            Keepers: Good

Defence: A bit cheap/poor. Ryerson apparently has bad fixtures. I'd do Lundstrom to a Brann defender (probably Wormgoor as he's the same price), they are one of the best defences. Not too sure about Mikalsen's team's defence but maybe you know better than me. Moe is good for the price, apparently on corners.

Mids: Good, but to answer your question, I'd say yes given the fact I'd probably want a defender instead. I'd downgrade Jensen and use the money to get a Rosenborg defender (preferably Hedenstad as he's on set-pieces, though he's pricey so any nailed defender from them will do).

Forwards: Good. If you want more cash you can do Lindberg to Shuaibu (5.0), but maybe it's not necessary.

For what it's worth, I'd start with Bendtner. If he does well and you don't have him, his ownership will hurt you and you will face a scramble to get him in. If you have him and he flops, you can downgrade him to anyone. Apparently, it's about the position he's in rather than the player he is. Any Rosenborg forward will get a lot of chances and score goals. I'd play it safe imo and get him in.

You're probably right. I'm trying to convince myself the opposition can't be so bad that bendtner could be so good.

                  Appreciate that.

Honestly Ryseron just seemed popular. Think Mikalsen was based on couple of comments on recent goals; definitely not my knowledge of Lillestrom's defence. Thought so on the mids, but defenders pricey as you say.

                  Will have another tinker later.

Yup. Maybe instead of Mikalsen for goals, look at Gretarsson at the same price. Their defence isn't great, but if you want a defender purely for attacking threat, it' him. 4 goals in 5 pre-season games.

So after the end of most of the friendlies, what have you understood from them? If you don't mind, can you share any noteworthy information from them?

Learning points from my perspective (the players I followed more closely):
                  - Ajeti didn't start
                  - Albech played the full 90, and scored
                  - Sødlund didn't start, but Vallés did
                  - Mos scored a brace
                  - Gretarsson (DEF) scored for his 3rd or 4th time in pre-season
                  - Koomson scored a brace
                  - Omojiuanfo scored a brace
                  - Many of the presumably better teams conceded quite a bit

Hopefull this can tell something about the form of individual players, but they're still only friendlies.

ah, just read this - good news for most of my team (below) but looks like sodlund may not be the best 4.5 then

Do we know if any of these players are nailed?

                A) Lorenthzen
                B) Johansen
                C) Valles

Why would you want C. He is a defensive midfielder, isn't he?

Don't know if he is or not. Just want a nailed 4.5 mid for the bench role. Is there any you know about?

                RMNT?

know nothing other than what I've read on here - from which I've planned to go big on defence - invest in big team defenders/GK who seem likely for CS - quite different from my FPL strategy

                it's 4-3-3/ 4-4-2

                Lechy (Fernandes)
                Ruud, Heldenstad, Rosted, Greatrsson, (Moe)
                Zahid, Haugen, Koomson, Njie, (Sodlund)
                Lord B, Mos, (Shuaibu)

I like it. Like you said, 4 at the back seems the way to go in this league. I like Gretarsson as a fun pick. Maybe the only thing you're missing is an Odd or Rosenborg mid, but you're midfield seems decently strong taking into consideration the money spent in defence.

Odd have nice fixtures getting in one of their attacking players might be useful (Zekhnini, Nordkvelle, Occean).

I like your team though, and it's impossible getting in coverage of all the teams. That's why we have early wildcards 🙂

Not really. Haugen has good fixtures in the first four games so its not like Odd has an advantage over Brann in that sense. You could easily fund a move to an Odd if Lord B turns out to be a waste of money.

Is walker the stand out spurs defensive option whilst considering dgws? He may be more of a rotation risk than the likes of alder or lloris, thoughts?

Thanks for previous advice. Still don't fancy paying up yet for Bendtner, so think this improves defence a bit:

                  Fernandes Dyngeland
                  Ruud Hedenstad Wormgoor Mikalsen Moe
                  Jensen Zahid Koomson Sigurdarson Njie
                  Abdellaoue Mos Lindberg

Looks good. Is it attacking threat you're after with Mikalsen? If so, look at Gretarsson for the same price. 4 goals in last 5 friendlies

                        7 years, 1 month ago

Sort of. Just on balance of set-pieces & clean-sheet history:

                        16/17
                        Mikalsen: 4G/3A (Lillestrom 5 CS)
                        Gretarsson: 0G/0A (Alesundd 7CS)

                        15/16
                        Mikalsen: 2G/1A (Lillestrom 7 CS)
                        Gretarsson: 0G/0A (Aalesund 3 CS)

Admittedly Mikalsen had (many) more starts. I have no clue how relevant friendlies are to future league performances.

Fair enough. Maybe it's worth mentioning Gretarsson was tipped by TC in the article. But both seem good picks. Where did you get those stats?

I know zero about Norwegian football. TC's tip probably right.
