Fantasy Eliteserien – Gameweek 3 Preview

After a five month long winter break the new season of Norwegian’s top flight football kicked off with a bang with two Gameweeks within a few days.

With Gameweek 3 starting on Saturday there is little respite for the clubs, and more importantly, us Fantasy managers. Gameweek 2 saw a lot of frustration as key assets were either benched or taken off early with the tight schedule in mind.

FFScout League Standings

The FFS community has shown an overwhelming interest for this fringe league, with 476 already having entered the FFScout main league (3769-1041).

On top with 135 points we find Norwegian Red (Oieiao) – perhaps fittingly – an Englishman.

In the FFScout  H2H league 16 managers have won both their matchups, with Ned Ryerson and Riski Virksomhet being joint top thanks to their superior points tally. Ned Ryerson features again on top of Phil Dagger’s Last Man Standing.

Stock Check

Ahead of looking at the risers and fallers from the two Gameweeks so far it is worth checking out Goktugerce‘s excellent statistical review of the first two Gameweeks, looking at team statistics, average positions and expected goals & assists. Meanwhile, Niemi took an in depth look at the good and bad players so far in every position.

Rising

Vegar Hedenstad (6.5) – Two clean sheets and an assist. On some set pieces.

Mike Jensen (10.5) – Two assists. Easy on the eye, which means he will be a favourite of ‘the man in the stand’. Already has 4 bonus points.

Milan Jevtovic (7.6) – A goal and an assist. A possible injury to Elbasan Rashani means Jevtovic could be nailed on going forward.

Nicklas Bendtner (12.5) – Two goals. The Dane is yet to find the groove but nonetheless has managed to find the back of the net in both games. Will score a lot of goals purely because of the sheer amount of chances Rosenborg create every game.

Sigurd Rosted (5.6) – Two goals. Not only is he a massive threat from set pieces, Sarpsborg play 4 out of their next 6 fixtures at home. Last season they kept an impressive 9 clean sheets in 15 games at home.

Patrick Mortensen (6.6) – Two goals and an assist. Sarpsborg have scored the joint most goals so far and the fixtures are favourable.

Gilbert Koomson (7.5) – Dubbed ’Siggy of Eliteserien’ by some of the FFS posters, Koomson showed some of his potential by scoring a penalty in GW2. The top assister from last season is yet to assist this campaign but that looks like a matter of time.

Bendik Bye (5.5) – Two goals and an assist. After a potential season ending injury for strike parter Ole Sveen, Bye should have done enough to nail down a permanent starting place.

Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) – A goal and an assist. 4 bonus points already, including full points in a game his team lost.

Ibrahim Shuaibu (5.0) – Two goals and two assists. Incredible form and value.

Frederik Gytkjær (7.5) – Three goals. Mistaken for his brother who was the league’s top scorer last season, a lot of casuals have enjoyed the early investment of the younger Gytkjær.

Ohi Omoijuanfo (7.0) – Hat-trick in the first home game. 3 of the next 4 fixtures are at home.

Marco Tagbajumi (7.6) – Two goals. Going somewhat under the radar compared to his expensive strike partner Marcus Pedersen. Favourable fixtures.

Jylian Ryerson (4.5) – One goal. Listed as a cheap defender, Ryerson has played both games in an advanced midfield position. Will probably drop a bit deeper once Adegbenro is back. Ryerson is a jack of all trades and due to Viking’s extremely thin squad we could hope to see him OOP for longer parts of the season.

Falling

Ghayas Zahid (10.5) – Tipped by many to be in contention for player of the year, Zahid has nothing to show for so far. Consistent returns are vital for players with a premium price tag. Does however face the bottom team at home in GW3 so those patient enough to keep could finally be rewarded.

Mohammed Abdellaoue (9.4) – An impressive pre season was followed by an anonymous opening GW before being ruled out for GW2 with an injury. Is very injury prone.

Lars Vilsvik (6.0) – Viewed as a full back with big attacking threat, the only thing Vilsvik has produced so far is an own goal. The fixtures are however still good.

Rafik Zekhnini (8.5) & Fredrik Nordkvelle (9.0) – Although the former registered an assist after coming on as a sub, he was benched due poor work ethic in the previous match. The latter is yet to return attacking points.

Samuel Adegbenro (7.5) – After missing the first game through illness, Adegbenro returned to training ahead of GW2. But he missed the second game as well, and now await four of the toughest games Viking will play all season.

Gameweek 3 Picks

Scoring the winner in his debut game, Bård Finne (9.1) will look to continue his good home form when Vålerenga welcome the bottom team Sandefjord. With Abdellaoue being a doubt for Sunday, Finne might benefit from a central striker role.

When it comes to attempts, midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) is second only to Bendik Bye with 4 shots per game. The Nigerian will certainly fancy his chances at home against what currently is the joint worst defence in the league.

Marco Tagbajuni (7.6) is on top for average xG (expected goals) per shot. Although a small sample size, this suggests he has so far been on the right place at the right time. Up against a shambolic Aalesund defence, the rather budget friendly striker could potentially even be trusted with the armband.

Cheers. Could you change "Ned Ryerson features again on top of Phil Dagger’s Last Man Standing" to "Don't be Ruud features on top of Phil Dagger’s Last Man Standing with 84 points in GW2"?

Reposting the expected Odd xi from last thread:

Rossbach, Ruud, Semb, Hagen, Nilsen, Broberg, Jensen, Nordkvelle, Diouf, Agdestein, Riski.

Occean rested (could do a Bendtner of course), Zekhnini injured.

What is it with rotation in Norway? Are the managers all shown a Benitez strategy video as part of their training badge course?

It's mostly down to the weird scheduling. After a 5 month winter break it's tough to expect the players to straight away play 3x90 mins in 8-9 days.

There's always bitching and whining in Norway the minute a team has to play more than one match per week. Norwegian players aren't that fit unfortunately, at least the coaches seem to think so. No wonder so few make it once they try careers abroad

Going with Matthew myself. Got him and Rolantsson for -4 this GW.

You should mention that Rolantsson plays as winger.

My captain will be Matthew. Current overall rank 1129. 🙂

Not nailed on as a winger though. He was originally starting as a right back yesterday, but Braaten got injured in the warm up. Nouri came in and Rolantsson was moved forward.

Anything to change here? Seems a bit silly to bench OOP Ryerson, but like the fixtures of the rest of my XI:

    Dyngeland
    Ruud, Hedenstad, Wormgoor
    Zahid, Koomson, Midtsjo, Nguen
    Bendtner (V), Tagbajumi (K), Shuaibu

    Fernandes - Ryerson, Moe, Njie

GK decision is tough. Dyngeland playing the easier opponent but Fernandes playing at home (home advantage has been key so far). I might play Fernandes.

Other than that it looks fine. Love the captain choice. Wish I had him but stuck with Pedersen.

Keep an eye on predicted lineups. I expect Nguen to start, but they have so many wide options. Could be benched. No room for Ryerson in there.

He is playing one of the worst teams in the league though, might as well back him for this one. If he doesn't shine it will be Zahid and Midstjo out for one of the premium RBK mids with my next FTs

Just worth nothing that Matthew's shots are mainly from outside the box (including his goal).

I think we'll see more settled team lineups going forward as there are now 1 week between the gameweeks going forward. Another fixture pileup in gameweek 8, 9 and 10. There will most likely be some rotation when the European qualifiers starts as well for the top teams and in the cup quarter finals etc. later this year.

Hello Niemi, would you do Sigurdarson to Matthew this week, or hold and see how each of them goes? The fact that Matthew is a CM is putting me off

      1. Niemi
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 2 months ago

I'd wait. Matthew is a seriously good player, but I'm not 100% sold myself currently since he's a CM. They discussed if he's doing the same as Capoue did at the start of the season in FPL on the FK Fotball podcast. Didn't come to a conclusion, but they fear he might not pick up regular goals and assist. They did say they would pick him up at 6.1 themselves though and I think I'll do the same myself. If he's on penalties then it's a no brainer, but we won't know before LSK actually get a penalty.

Great article! What's the way forward in terms of captaining & transfers here?

    Hansen
    Parr - Nakkim - Ruud - Albech
    Jensen (c?) - Matthew - Juklerød
    Marcus Pedersen - Bendtner (c?) - Lindberg

Fernandes – Njie - Hussain - Jeppe Moe

    Thoughts:

    A) Hussain to Koomson
    B) Pedersen to Bye
    C) Pedersen to Tagbajumi
    D) Albech to Ryerson or Rolantsson

    E) -4 and two of the above

Anything less than 20+ goals from Bendtner this season would be a failure on his part, so I would find a way to get him in.

Lindberg at home this weekend is tempting. Orlov away to Kristiansund is a gamble, but Brann surprised me in a very positive manner against Sgodset yesterday. He was rested for most of the match, so don't be surprised if he starts

Oh, I must have missed out :/ Any info/source on that? Fingers crossed to avoid a cameo on his part, then... Lindberg has been very promising during the winter matches, two assists from this cheapie during the the opener last weekend. S08 might be the surprise team this season, looking forward to seeing more of them!

Lindberg and Mortensen will start for now, but we don't know who will drop out when Fejzullahu get a start. Lindberg could be pushed out wide. He's on some set pieces and is the penalty taker.

Svendsen to Koomson. I own both B. B. Sigurdarson and Svendsen, and I think I'll sell Svendsen. BBS more nailed in the starting line up and Koomson essential IMO. Unlucky not to get bigger returns so far.

BUT I'd wait until tomorrow. The lineups will be out before deadline, so you'll see if one of them is on the bench or both are starting.

I'm saving my FT this GW and will give Zahid one more chance at home against the worst team in the league. Will Occean be benched? I guess it still makes sense to play him instead of Njie against Odd, but I am not sure.

Njie v ODD or Albech v VIK? Slightly leaning towards Albech.

Captain Helland, Zahid or Hedenstad? Zahid is my captain currently, but I want to give it to Helland.

I'd go Albech. Don't have a lot to base it on, other than that he could suddenly score a header, that S08 should be good this year and that Stabæk will be very unstable at best

I'd say go Albech as well. Wouldn't expect him to score a header as he is a right back, but surely some attacking potential. Njie has good stats and has been unlucky not to get a goal or an assist so far, but Odd are a good team.

I'm pretty sure I'll sell Svendsen (also own B. B. Sigurdarson) as I don't want a double up and he's prone to rotation. Opinions?

Been looking at these options and their stats:

Matthew (6.1): Averaging 4 shots per game, but all off them outside the box. 2.5 per game from open play and 1.5 from free kicks. Averaging 0.5 crosses and 0.5 free kick passes. Not on set pieces (apart from the odd direct free kicks)

Haugen (9.0): Averaging 2 shots per game, 1 inside the box and 1 outside the box. Averaging 6 corners, 8.5 crosses per game and 4,5 free kick passes. 4.5 key passes per game, highest in Eliteserien (Koomson next on 3.5).

Riski (7.0): Averaging 2 shots per game, 1 inside the box and 1 outside the box. Averaging 2 crosses, not on set pieces.

Hajradinovic (7.5): Averaging 3 shots per game, 2.5 outside the box and 0.5 inside the box. 1.5 of those from free kicks. Averaging 2.5 crosses, 1.5 corners and 2.5 free kick passes.

Other notes while looking at stats: Gamst Pedersen catching my eye with lots of crosses and set pieces. Koomson stats looks great. Krogstad has a great share of set pieces. Moe, Ruud and Hedenstad (not all) on set pieces. Ryerson really catching my eye with his impressive attacking stats. Coly, Megalvis and K. Haugen with decent attacking stats for defenders. Vilsvik ok attacking stats, but not as good as you would expect. Sørli with a lot of shots and some set pieces (4.5 mid).

where are you getting in / out of box stats from ? - whoscored seems to just have shots / on target

thanks for the article and all the work - am enjoying NFPL a lot

Whoscored. When looking at the stats go to detailed. You can then pick category (for example shots) and sub category (for example zones, situations etc.). A bit messy, but a lot of stats in there.

Do you have to sell Svendsen this week? I would get Haugen. Better fixtures, better numbers (from last year), has the ball a lot an in advanced positions. Most expensive between those 4 though. But I would wait another week to see how they will perform.

I don't have to sell Svendsen this week, but I don't want 2 attacking Molde players after what I've seen so far and Svendsen is rotation prone. Their up against Rosenborg as well away this week as well. I might keep Svendsen if he starts against Rosenborg, but Haugen is tempting after looking at the stats. If he's benched he is definitely gone.

Worth nothing that Matthew are one of two CMs in a 442 and Haugen one of three CMs in a 433 (same role as Midtsjø/Jensen for Rosenborg). Hajradinovic a LM in a 442 and Riski an LW in a 433.

Is the team good enough to save FT ?

    Fernandes
    Ruud / Hedenstad / Vilsvik /
    Zahid / Midtsjo / Koomson / Nordkvelle
    Bendtner(c) / Omoijuanfo / Shuaibu

    Dyngeland / Moe / Utvik / Sorli

    Cheers.

Which is the better combo of Molde/RBK mids going forward?

    Pick one of:
    A) Svendsen
    B) Strand

    Plus, pick one of:
    1) Jensen
    2) Helland
    3) Jevtovic

The only combo I can't afford with 2FT is Svendsen and Jensen. But looking at the ticket I want a Molde mid from next week onwards.

Jensen / Svendsen is the obvious combo but also the most expensive you can afford.

I have Jevtovic as he looks like he could be a great value pick if he plays every week.

None of the above nailed on to play every match. Sigurdarson is pretty much nailed on though. Toss up between Jensen and Helland. Jensen the safe pick, Helland the more explosive one. Doesn't look on form yet though
