The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 33

With the day billed as a head-to-head between Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, it was the Spurs man who ultimately came out on top – rewarding those who move to adopt him early to maximise his potential as a short-term differential.

The gap was six points – hardly a huge margin but enough to elevate Kane’s status and ensure that he’s currently second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – with Manchester United’s two fixtures – for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 34 so far.

In contrast, Lukaku looks destined for an ownership loss as traffic moves to Ibrahimovic: there is already a deficit with only Diego Costa, and Jamie Vardy sold more among forwards at this point.

Selling Lukaku remains a scary prospect – with 12 goals in ten, 13 in his last eight at home – the Everton striker could easily punish the shift to the United man.

He will face a trip to West Ham, while Ibrahimovic squares up to both Burnley and Manchester City away. With a Goodison Park encounter with Chelsea to follow before we shift to Double Gameweek assets, for many Fantasy managers, today will be the final farewell for Lukaku – a player who has been a spectacular servant since the season’s mid-way point.

Kane is heading in the opposite direction.

While the Spurs midfield is awash with consistent options – a fact demonstrated again in today’s win over Bournemouth – Kane is surely now the premium striker of choice.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in irrepressible form, with Kane now back installed as the spearhead to feed off the first-class service provided by Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min in particular.

Kane went into the today’s encounter as part of 590,000 squads, with 251,000 of those owners immediately trusting him with the captaincy.

He was to score and assist for only the third time this season, sealing the maximum bonus to double Lukaku’s six-point tally.

Having delivered on the armband, Fantasy managers are now faced with a dilemma.

Ibrahimovic is clearly being brought in for his two fixtures as the default captaincy option and yet Spurs’ form, even heading into a testing trip to Crystal Palace, is difficult to ignore.

Looking at the past four matches for all sides, Pochettino’s men have scored 13 goals – five more than any other side. They also lead the way for attempts, shots in the box and big chances.

Comparing them directly with United, they’ve recorded 38 shots on target compared to 21 from Jose Mourinho’s side when both sides’ last four matches are considered.

Even if we can be certain that Ibrahimovic will figure in both his Gameweek 34 fixtures, it’s debatable whether he can better Kane’s potential output.

Spurs are seemingly hellbent on maintaining their title challenge, and the striker himself appears focused on closing on Lukaku in the Golden Boot race.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Spurs and Kane have outscored double Gameweek assets and punished those who dare overlook them. In Gameweek 34 last season, they hit four at Stoke City with Kane firing a brace after 200,000 shipped him out.

Nobody will be selling Kane this time around, but it’s the armband decision that looks key.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Pickford Heaton
    Alonso Baines Davies Robertson Friend

A because of Mkhi, he won´t play both matches. Hazard can take as many points form that Saints game than Mkhi can over those two matches anyway, so B for me
C doesn´t seem profitable with Robertson having a home match vs a goal shy Watford. Fair chance of a CS and then you´ll need at least 10p from Gibson to make it even.

I am planning for the rest of the season now. The current squad is the following.

    Heaton, Jakupovic
    Valencia, Baines, Davies, Mee, Stephens
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Alli, Zaha, T.Carroll
    Kane, Benteke, Lukaku

2.5 ITB. 1 chip left - bench boost (gw37 obviously). Already did Defoe -> Benteke last night.
I tempted to do Heaton -> Valdes, Mee -> Gibson. But Boro players are useless after GW34. It is effective -8 to bring in and out for each one.
I plan to bring Ibra for Lukaku for GW34 (C) and GW35 for a hit.
What do you think is it worth it to bring Boro guys in?

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    The Ibrahimovic conundrum.

Like a Swedish conspiracy thriller the scramble to draft in the on paper best captain for DGWK 34 is set to pick up pace this week.

How are you planning to involve Ibrahimovic for this pair of games?

For those without him but with Sanchez and Lukaku it is likely that one will go? But which one? The out of form Arsenal midfielder, or the inform Everton marksman, who faces a porous West Ham defence.

Or do you plan to ignore him altogether. With United’s punishing schedule will Ibrahimovic even start both games? And if he does is Burnley really their priority as they take on City and fight for Europa League glory?

And this applies to those already with him as well. Is Zlatan the best captaincy choice, given the explosive potential against bigger clubs of Palace assets and the chance of a double clean sheet for Boro defenders?

I'd rather be losing Sanchez and get him back for the Gw in Gw37. Stats have shown that Ibra has a tendency to score even more when the fixtures are tougher. HE sure seems like the best choice

          Ibra:

At home against teams in the Top 8: 3 goals in 4 games
At home against teams outside the Top 8: 4 goals in 10 games
Away against teams in the Top 8: 3 goals in 4 games
Away against teams outside the Top 8: 8 goals in 9 games

Better away than at home so looks good for GW34 in that sense.

For me I still think there is a significant upside to Ibrahimovic..and will likely get him in. But I am also pondering handing the amrband to another - with perhaps Townsend or Zaha better bets.

As regards who goes. I'm minded to keep Lukaku for West Ham and am looking at Carrol and Sanchez out for Ibra and Zaha.

Sanchez is on his final warning at Teeside. If he can't score against the already relegated minnows from the wing then it is time he departed.

That's why I'm holding off. If that happens it indicates Sanchez can prosper on the left given Arsenal's current way of playing.

That means I'll probably keep him and ditch Lukaku with a heavy heart.

Lukaky and Siggy to Ibrahimovic and Zaha.

This stage of the season knowledge rather than price is key so will await pressers at the end of the week eagerly.

No way! I think you would regret those moves come the end of next gameweek Jonty. Siggy has Stoke (H) and has not been lacking effort despite blanking, Lukaku is a beast. Ibra probably plays the same minutes as Lukaku, against tougher opposition! Are you mental? This is what dgwks do. Bailly and Gibson for me. That is all.

The thing about thinking like this is that you want Ibra in for fear of his ownership (because it's certainly not for his fixtures) what happens in GW36 when Sanchez is the captain of choice and his ownership builds to essential levels?

It will be the same situation then where everyone will look for negatives not to own him but deep down know you'll have to because everyone else will.

For me, Ibra has to run alongside Kane, Lukaku and Sanchez not instead of any of them because you'll be forever worrying about the one you don't have.

For what it's worth, no way is he essential, his fixtures look no easier than Benteke's (who has team/personel form) or Negredo (fixtures) don't even think he's a stronger C with 2 games over Kane and Lukaku with 1, just depends if you can go without knowing most active players will be on him.

Flip side is that it may be a huge differential not to own him because if he flops as C there will be carnage.

All a bit irrelevant now, the fact that he's been rested so he can't do a Thur/Sun week means captaining him is too risky for that Burnley game.

This is what I've been thinking off late.

Keeping Lukaku and captaining Benteke while ignoring Ibra could very well be a shrewd move.

I was just about to post about this. Lukaku is the only option for me (have Kane and Benteke) but he ALWAYS scores against West Ham. Plus Ibra would be for -4 and he's playing two tough fixtures and a rotation risk AND in a low scoring team. I just can't see him outscoring Lukaku, he may not even match him at -4. Not worth it in my opinion, and I normally love a DGW. The only plus is their following fixture. Ibra has SWA and Lukaku has CHE.

If lukaku is looking for a move away fro Everton wouldn't turning it on against Chelsea be a good idea for his transfer fee and wagepack???

Already have him even throughout his ban actually. Probably capt him aswell but not too confident with those two fixtures or even game time. Have 3 dgws at present and will bring in one more for my ft I'd say maybe Valdes.

This hot topic is a bit too early in my opinion. How Ibra and Sanchez perform this game week will really have an impact. If Ibra gets at least a goal today I imagine most will draft him in for a double. As for Sanchez, who knows, but if he gets a haul at Middlesbrough there's no way owners will want to sell.

For me right now it's looking like Lukaku to Ibra, simply based on Lukaku's away form not being as good as his home.

Sanchez must get something, otherwise he will be out to fund Origi -> Ibra.

      Zlatan:

At home against teams in the Top 8: 3 goals in 4 games
At home against teams outside the Top 8: 4 goals in 10 games
Away against teams in the Top 8: 3 goals in 4 games
Away against teams outside the Top 8: 8 goals in 9 games

Better away than at home so looks good for GW34 in that sense.

West Ham have only won 1 game from 20 against teams above them in the table (Southampton). They have not kept a clean sheet against any team above them in the table conceding 45 goals (= 2.25 goals per game). They play Everton next. Lukaku has scored in each of his last 7 games against West Ham (7 goals in 9 games overall).

Wish there was a better midfield option for Man Utd to pick.

Almost feel that I'm trying to force in Ibra even though Lukaku is the form player. Still may go without Ibra

Two option from me depend on Sanchez performance against Boro. If Sanchez can score, i will do:
      Siggy + Origi > Ibra + 4.5m mid

If Sanchez cant score, he will go & maybe will not comming back as i already use my WC:
      Sanchez + Origi > Ibra + Coutinho

It's definitely a waiting game. Much will depend on results and performances right through to next Thursday. I am keeping an open mind to all options.

My initial thoughts on Zlatan will be that I will only get him if I captain him, and it is likely only for Lukaku, as I am playing 3-5-2, and will have a benching headache otherwise.

This will also mean I am stuck with Zaha over Townsend, which is annoying, as Townsend would have been the perfect differential.

If I can find a good alternative captain, I may ignore altogether. If only Sanchez was playing for an in-form Arsenal up front against Leicester 🙂

I do have two simple moves though, with the MITB I have saved.

        Lukaku to Ibra FT
Sanchez + Barnes to Townsend + Ibra.

The second one gives me Erik, Alli, Cout, Zaha and Townsend - Ibra, Kane, Lukaku - who do I bench out of them?

I'm doing Lukaku (whm, CHE) -> Zlatan (bur/mci, SWA) for free. Big hitter, high ownership, in-form with a DGW & a plum fixture the following GW...."don't look a gift horse in the mouth".

OR suicide to go without the Swede in my opinion.

      Pickford (Heaton)
Alonso / Valencia / Walker (Smith / Pieters)
Sanchez / Zaha / Alli / King (Carroll)
      Carroll / Lukaku / Kane
      1FT 4.3 ITB

      Going to do Carroll/Walker to Gibson/Ibra -4.

Agreed it's either Sanchez or Lukaku to be sacrificed. If you have someone like Carroll or Llorente then Sanchez and FWD to Zaha/Townsend and Ibra makes perfect sense. Particularly to those with a WC still in place (to get Sanchez back in time for 36).

For those without that option say Kane, Benteke and Lukaku. Is Lukaku the only route to Ibra or could Sanchez still be the route? Benteke and Sanchez to Townsend/Zaha and Ibra a possibility?

Or should Ibra be ignored entirely?

I have Kane, Lukaku and Benteke. Given that Ibra was benched, the fact that Rashford and Lingard were excellent together and that we have 5 games in two weeks, I am not going near Ibra. I'd actually prefer Rashford on his performance today - he was sensational - but I'm going to keep going with my front three. Have two Utd defenders. Captain Benteke.

Morning guys and a Happy Easter to everyone!
So for the first time in a long time I have 2 FTs! I'll wait until the end of the current GW before submitting anything.

    Grant,
    Valencia, Alonso, Brunt
    Sanchez, King, Son, Zaha, Hazard
    Aguero, Kane

    Jak, Barnes, Yoshida, Fernández

    0ITB. I'm thinking of:
    1) Grant to Hennessey
    2) Brunt to PVA

    Any other ideas welcome!

    Currently on one of:
