The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 33

With the day billed as a head-to-head between Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, it was the Spurs man who ultimately came out on top – rewarding those who move to adopt him early to maximise his potential as a short-term differential.

The gap was six points – hardly a huge margin but enough to elevate Kane’s status and ensure that he’s currently second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – with Manchester United’s two fixtures – for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 34 so far.

In contrast, Lukaku looks destined for an ownership loss as traffic moves to Ibrahimovic: there is already a deficit with only Diego Costa, and Jamie Vardy sold more among forwards at this point.

Selling Lukaku remains a scary prospect – with 12 goals in ten, 13 in his last eight at home – the Everton striker could easily punish the shift to the United man.

He will face a trip to West Ham, while Ibrahimovic squares up to both Burnley and Manchester City away. With a Goodison Park encounter with Chelsea to follow before we shift to Double Gameweek assets, for many Fantasy managers, today will be the final farewell for Lukaku – a player who has been a spectacular servant since the season’s mid-way point.

Kane is heading in the opposite direction.

While the Spurs midfield is awash with consistent options – a fact demonstrated again in today’s win over Bournemouth – Kane is surely now the premium striker of choice.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in irrepressible form, with Kane now back installed as the spearhead to feed off the first-class service provided by Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min in particular.

Kane went into the today’s encounter as part of 590,000 squads, with 251,000 of those owners immediately trusting him with the captaincy.

He was to score and assist for only the third time this season, sealing the maximum bonus to double Lukaku’s six-point tally.

Having delivered on the armband, Fantasy managers are now faced with a dilemma.

Ibrahimovic is clearly being brought in for his two fixtures as the default captaincy option and yet Spurs’ form, even heading into a testing trip to Crystal Palace, is difficult to ignore.

Looking at the past four matches for all sides, Pochettino’s men have scored 13 goals – five more than any other side. They also lead the way for attempts, shots in the box and big chances.

Comparing them directly with United, they’ve recorded 38 shots on target compared to 21 from Jose Mourinho’s side when both sides’ last four matches are considered.

Even if we can be certain that Ibrahimovic will figure in both his Gameweek 34 fixtures, it’s debatable whether he can better Kane’s potential output.

Spurs are seemingly hellbent on maintaining their title challenge, and the striker himself appears focused on closing on Lukaku in the Golden Boot race.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Spurs and Kane have outscored double Gameweek assets and punished those who dare overlook them. In Gameweek 34 last season, they hit four at Stoke City with Kane firing a brace after 200,000 shipped him out.

Nobody will be selling Kane this time around, but it’s the armband decision that looks key.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Anyone have a case against this trio as being the 'ideal' front 3 for the next few games especially those with a wildcard;
    Kane/Ibra/Tekkers?

Kun has the ability to outscore Benteke's 3 games in the 'Boro game alone.

But there is more to it than that. If someone has Kun, they would no doubt use the extra funds elsewhere which will make up for it.

History says that is too risky! I remember getting a great haul with the likes of Ndoye and Benteke before. Think you need to make some provision, but the better quality single gameweekers should also score well. A strange gw.

I'm thinking similarly, there's a risk 1 or 2 score big but I've got a strong team of SGWers and don't see any i can justify dropping. With no WC left I am going to focus on gw36 and 37 instead.

      Do you have a wc?

I don't and I'm saving my ft this week as I think my ft can be better spent on an arsenal or Southampton asset in the next couple of weeks.

I've got my wc ready for GW36, so a couple of FT's carried over to 35 would be useful for then.

I just don't know if the hits will be worth it to bring in Boro or CP players and I'd need to swap out Lukaku for Ibra, which doesn't really appeal.

Not only is it the optimal amount but it's actually how many the game at large will have (on avg). We are once again in danger of talking each other into too many transfers and hits.

We aren't playing against each other on the FFS site.. we're playing against the game at large.

Ibra has played every single minute that he has been available for in the prem, and just had a long rest due to suspension.

I don't think much is going to change because of that Daily Ma*l article. They need goals, and can't get them without him.

Should I do Vardy to Ibra this week, then after the dgw do I do Ibra to Kane?

I wasnt too keen on Ibra next week but saw that he had 12 shots against Burnley and 10 shots against City in the reverse fixtures. Very scared that he will get a similar number of chances and score at least 2 goals in the DGW.

Didn't realise you had TC too, then I'd say yes. WC 35, TC 36, BB 37. You'll have to hope for no injuries after WC to make the most out of BB, although u could roll your FT's

I'm 4th in my ML and it's a 4 horse race really. 1st and 3rd have NO dgw players. 2nd has ibra, benteke,Zaha, and Valencia. Doubt he will get anymore in.

Only one if those I don't have is Benteke .
Need a 4th dgwr. So Valdes,Hennessey or Gibson? Which is better to at least try to cover benteke potential points ?? Don't wanna lose lukaku for Benteke at this stage.

For fixtures you'd back Valdes ahead of Hennessy.

For Valdes vs Gibson depends on who you'd lose

No DGW'ers. Should I WC this GW ?

    JAK (WAT)
Alonso (SOU), Davies (clp), MAWSON (STK)
Sanchez (LEI), COUTINHO (CRY), Alli (cpl), SIGGY (STK), King (MID)
    Kane (clp), KAKU (whu)

    Foster, Holgate, Amat, Gray

    It would mean starting

Valdes, Mustafi, Zaha and Ibra and Tekkers instead of Jak, Mawson, Coutinho, Siggy and Kuku

and having Jak, Yosida, Ward Prowse on bench instead of Foster, Amat and Gray.
