Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Chelsea vs Watford

The seven-day Gameweek rolls on with a Monday night date under the lights of Stamford Bridge – the new home of the Premier League champions.

While tonight will doubtless witness scenes of celebration, Antonio Conte has given us Fantasy managers little to cheer with his team selection for the clash with Watford.

We were anticipating changes but a total of nine exceeds even our worst fears as a cast of premium assets get relegated to the bench or the stands.

They include the two top scoring defenders – Marcos Alonso and Gary Cahill – as Chelsea legend John Terry earns a run-out.

The Blues most popular player – striker Diego Costa – is also sat on the timber with Friday’s Hawthorns hero, Michy Batshuayi, leading the attack.

There are, however, some exceptions, with Cesar Azpilicueta and most notably, and surprisingly, Eden Hazard, retaining starting roles.

It remains to be seen how this impacts on their prospects for Gameweek 38 but, for now, their owners will be thankful of the possibility for returns in this evening’s clash.

Just what they can produce in such a weakened line-up remains to be seen. Watford certainly arrive in London in no great shakes – losing their last four without a single goal scored, although Chelsea’s teamsheet will surely give them a lift.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    AOA GW38; 1FT & £0.5m in the kitty.

    What moves should I be looking at?

    Willy;
    Stephens, Davies;
    Sánchez, de Bruyne, Ozil, Alli, King;
    Kane, Jesus, Llorente.

    Pickford; Gibbs, A.Smith, Holgate.

        Yeah, this was my team this GW. I'm thinking of moving on either Ozil or de Bruyne for Coutinho?

          Yeah now that I saw Davies' suggestion Ozil to Coutinho sounds good.

              It looks great on paper but the thing is, if I had Coutinho for some reason I wouldn't be confident captaining him.

              Go for it if that's what your gut feeling is, for whatever reason I don't trust Coutinho with the armband personally.

                Sturridge seems like a safer bet. Think i'll move both Jesus & Ozil but it depends on tonight honestly.

    I have 1 free transfer with no intention to take a hit. Hazard to Coutinho is a popular move - do you think I should go for that, or perhaps Brunt to Matip? Wouldn't mind some Liverpool defence vs. Boro.

      Hazard to Coutinho is the obvious one. Otherwise Jesus to Studge but you'll have to fund it with a Hazard move out for a bencher/Coutinho and bench someone else(Eriksen??).

        Pick Sterling instead of Sane really bad moves if he doesn't play tonight.
        I'll consider Spurs Midfielder, although prefer player from the team still with something to play for.

        Alternative moves:

          Sturridge yes. Chelsea lineup for 38 is difficult to predict, however. Some on here think that Conte will start the lineup next week that he wants to play for the cup final, meaning Pedro and Fab could get more time than Willian.

            Sturridge really an exciting option, although that will mean without coutinho. Pedro/Willian really tricky one, i can pick Lallana instead, in hope that he can cover Coutinho points

    Could bringing in Countinho now just be points chasing? Liverpool midfield has been known to trade around the points between games. Could be Sturridge, Lallana, or even Origi who are next to score big

        You got quite lucky keeping Hazard to be fair. KDB could still haul though, and I was inches away from getting him on a WC without him having a recent haul. Give people credit! It's not like you were being that clever keeping Hazard 😛

      If Coutinho hadn't scored lots of FPL points, but still played well, would you be more likely to bring him in? Don't be afraid of being branded a kneejerker. Liverpool arent the only team that spread goals around the players. However they are a team that likes to score more than 1 a day, so that only increases the chances of it being your Liverpool player. And Coutinho is the best option right now

      1. Foozeball
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

        That's true, but the general trend of Liverpool's attacking assets speaks for itself. Coutinho admittedly has been the best at avoiding blanking immediately following a double digit performance however.
        Tempted to take a punt on Lallana. I find it shocking he's gone so long without a goal or assist

      How is this chasing points? Coutinho has been in generally good form, has a home game against a relegated side, and still has everything to play for. He also hasn't played in the mid-week, and is 100% nailed on. What sold me on getting in Coutinho this week is that Swansea saved their spot.

    Hazard & Costa to Coutinho & Sturridge?

    Genius or could backfire?

      a risk worth taking plus liverpool have top to play against a relegation team

      I think this most likely backfires, especially if it's for a hit. No guarantee Sturridge starts, particulary if Firmino's back!

    1FT but can't see the point in using it. I'm not jumping on the Hazard out bandwagon so it's hard to find a decent transfer?

    Cech
    Alonso/Kompany/Bavies/Mawson
    Sanchez/Hazard/Eriksen/Sane/King
    Kane
    (Pickford,Benteke,Yoshida,Rudy)
    Bench: Mawson v Benteke is a close one!

      I'm in a similar situation (and same midfield as you) - I am considering Hazard to Coutinho, which is the popular move, but I'm also considering a Liverpool defender (likely Matip). You'd have to think Middlesbrough are very unlikely to score.

        I'm going against the vast majority I know but I feel it's a bit silly to sell Hazard when he's home to SUN, even with 30mins he could haul!
        LIV defence is a good shout against Boro but I've got a very solid looking defence this week so I'm reluctant to get rid of any of em?

          That's true - personally if I don't get Matip I'd be playing either Yoshida or Brunt so it would be less solid than your defence.

          You just never know on the final day - would Hull play with a lot of freedom and want to put on a show for their fans in their last PL game? (I'm not saying they'd beat Tottenham, but a goal or two wouldn't be surprising in this scenario) Or would they be completely disinterested? No way to predict.

            True, but can't see Hull doing much. There seems to be always lots of goals on the final day, my defenders are pretty attacking so happy enough to go 451. Benching Benteke against an understrength MUN team could prove a mistake but think I'll leave as is. Geeting in Matip might work out well, seems to have a bit of a goal threat about him also. GL mate!

            Yoshi plays a Man U team that plays EL 3 days later... they will be all U21 players practically... Pool can be porous at times so with Yoshi I think you are good to go- imo

    Anyone else is ridiculously tight head to head matches? Our league is at the semi final stage and I'm losing 87-86!!

    Who wins?

    Pickford, Sane, Yoshida, Davies (me)

    Gabbiadini, Cech, Romeu, Albrighton

    Hazard what a troll he has been for me this season. Anyone similar ?

    When i didn't own him:: 18 matches- 11 goals 5 assist

    When i actually owned him:: 19 matches- 4 goals 4 assists

    Not touching him again next season. (Will go for Fab instead iif he's nailed)

      Yep. I've completely dodged his points. Had the wrong Chelsea defender too when they've got their hauls.

      Never bought Heaton this season.

      Josh King the sole reason I'm currently ranked 1996 was on him well early!

          May he does not play but I can't risk it. He looks like scoring 2-3 goals per game.

          Show us the team and will try to figure out another way for Studge, Cout and Alonso to stay.
