Dugout Discussion – Southampton vs Man United

After Alexis Sanchez ended Double Gameweek 37 with a season-high 27 points, Wednesday night’s meeting at St Mary’s has a lot to live up to.

Southampton entertain Manchester United in the penultimate showdown of a seven-day round of fixtures, and it’s fair to say that Claude Puel and Jose Mourinho both owe us a favour after their recent penchant for rotation scuppered many best-laid wildcard plans.

The Saints’ boss reinstalls a number of regulars after the 2-1 win at Middlesbrough on Saturday. Snapped up by 40,000+ and 27,000+ respectively for their second successive Double Gameweek, Jack Stephens and Manolo Gabbiadini return to the first XI along with the likes of Dusan Tadic, Nathan Redmond and Cedric Soares.

Despite mustering just a single assist in his last six league outings, Gabbiadini is his side’s most captained player, with 15,000+ handing him the armband for the Double.

Fantasy faith in United is at a low as Mourinho looks to keep his main men fresh with one eye on next week’s Europa League final against Ajax.

Marcus Rashford continues to be used sparingly on the domestic stage and is handed a third successive appearance on the bench, though Wayne Rooney is named in the first XI for the fourth successive league outing.

Having found the net in three of his last four Gameweek appearances, the Red Devils’ skipper is the most captained FPL asset among Mourinho’s starting line-up, with almost 28,000 affording him the armband.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

If chaser doesn't have Hazard I should do Hazard>Coutinho today to avoid being priced out of buying Vardy later in the week?

Yes... I just don't think Haz is going to get more than a cameo... a Hazard injury would be a disaster to the Blues.

current OR 8k. I just want to finish with a 4 digit rank, don't care if it's 1000 or 9999. So what is the mathematically correct move to make with 1 FT, with % selection taken into account.

    Cech.
    Alonso - Monreal - Yosh.
    Sanchez - Eriksen - KDB - King.
    Kane - Jesus - Gabb.

    Cab - Capoue - Steph - Holgate.

is 41 pts unobtainable, a rival has Alli left I have Erik/Alli/Kane?. I actually totally dismissed catching him he was so far ahead for so long, was down to 900 in the world at one point he's now 16k.. Need something big don't I? should I rephrase that 😀

So, the final few days of chat, advice and banter with the only people who know what a DGW RMT is in this country.

I've cut back a 100+ point lead in one ML to 35 points. I still have Alli to his Fuchs to play this week.

He has Cabellero, Fuchs, Bertrand, Davies, DeBruyne, Pedro and Davis.

    2ft, 0itb
    * = Same players as him for next week

    Cech
    Alonso* / Monreal* / Yoshida
    Sanchez* / Hazard / Alli / Sane / King*
    Kane* / Jesus*

    Pickford / Stephens / Holgate / Anichebe*

I need two solid punts and a cracking captain option.

    Thoughts??

Is he gonna get Coutinho aswell?

Haz to Fabregas? Although tbh, a 35pt gap with only 5 differentials is asking a lot. Maybe you need to drop one of the players you share?

I contemplated dropping Kane cause the funds and Sturridge or Vardy punt but if he scores tonight, he can't be dropped I don't think.

King is definetly one you could lose, Leicester been solid at home.

I was about to suggest Sanchez I thought I'd be bitten, haha. Again, golden boot contender. It's tough but that 35pts ain't gonna be easy.

Kane to Sturridge is the type of move you need but of course it could backfire tremendously.

Fab is in Spain at the moment. Not sure is he even gonna play now on Sunday.

    Cech
    Yoshida - Alonso - Clichy
    Alexis - Alli - Hazard - Sané - King
    Benteke - Kane

    Bench: Pickford, Gabbi, Stephens, Gibson.

    1FT and 0.4 ITB.

What to do for the last GW? Thinking about one of these:
    Alli --> Cout
    Haz --> Cout
Haz and Benteke --> Cout and Jesus (Would cost -4)

6300 overall if that matters. Aiming to both protect mostly, but also catch a 20 point lead to get the 1k money instead of just 500 quid.. Thinking of capping Cout if I bring him in..

    Any early thought fellas?

    Cech/Caballero
    Alonso Vertonghen Monreal/Stephens
    Sanchez KDB Eriksen King
    Kane Jesus Gabbi

    C/C M/S Ndidi Holgate

    1FT, 0.1ITB.

Not sure on who to play between the goalies and the 3rd defense spot. Deffo not double Arsenal. Might go Caballero + Monreal or Cech + Stephens. What transfer to make? Would have to lose Eriksen for Cout, not sure its worth it. Might do Monreal -> Terry after pressers and play 442. The best option is probably Gabbi + Ndidi -> Anichebe + Cesc but not too keen on the hit.

    Any thoughts?

    1. Pep says
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 10 days ago

Don't like City's chances of clean sheet, I think Watford will have a go at them.

So Cech in goal. You shouldn't look as doubling up in defemce as a bad thing. Take each in isolation. For me Monreal Trumps Stephens due to his goal threat and if Kosc is back then Monreal will be very attacking like in Stoke game.

Is Coutinho really the way to go? I'm not convinced by him..

I wouldn't do Terry and 442 given the nature of the final week.

Not many front 8 options without a hit though. Gabbi to Origi but Meh..

I really reallly need to get rid of Gabbi. Pains me to see him in my team. Might just do Gabi, Ndidi to Fabre + filler and call it a day. Can see Chelsea slaughter Sunderland.

It's quietened down a bit - let's talk about the turning point of the FPL season for us, if there was one.Can be a turning point for the better or for worse.

For me, it was GW28. I'd had a fairly consistent season until then - spent the first half of the season between 100k and 200k mostly, then GW18 to 28 between 30k and 100k. On GW28, when a lot of people were taking hits to field full teams, I only made 1 transfer - Sterling to King. King went on to score a hat-trick, I broke into the top 10k and stayed there ever since.

    What about you?

    1. Pep says
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 10 days ago

Nice. Nothing for me tbh. Started out at around 850k after the first 2/3 months.

Slowly climbed to 100k, hovered there for a month, 80k, 60k, 50k and am now 40k, climbing slowly .

Nothing has been a defining moment though, I've merely been existing.

Winning my ML though and onto beat last years rank of 37k.

GW21. Was in a terrible rut at the time lingering around 500k and nothing was going right.

Scored 91pts that week and my bench got 0pts so I absolutely nailed it.

The stars were Alonso 21pts, Sanchez(c) 22, Erikson 10, Heaton 10. Got around 100k GW rank and started a great run of green arrows that lasted even until now. Currently around 30k

I think the turning point for me was trebling up on the Spurs attack relatively early and sticking by them and also spotting that Aguero was overpriced and not worth it and being brave enough at the time to go without him

Mistakes that stick out for me are getting rid of Heaton in my gw6 wc just so i could fit in Rashford up top being a bit too stubborn at times to get Sanchez back into my team after he let me down earlier in the season

Hazard also trolled me when i owned him not getting King for the gw27 blank and going with Tadic over Son more recently

      1. Pierce34
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 10 days ago

Nice - I was too stubborn in my belief that trebling up on any attack would not work. Had Kane intermittently through the season, Alli for a lot of his blanks. Only got Eriksen with GW35 wildcard.

Hazard has been a complete troll for me - 15 gameweeks, 2 goals 3 assists. Not justified his price tag at all, while in my team, unlike Sanchez who I've timed perfectly.

Alonso Kompany. Stephens might not play and Daniels Holgate on bench. Would probably sell Stephens

Well the above Fabregas story has made me think twice about bringing him in. Who else in his price range?

Just realised Batshuayi is a really good punt. Btw, how's this looking?

    A) Alonso, Tadic > Lovren, Coutinho (-4)
    B) KdB/Eriksen > Coutinho(free)
    C) Alonso, Tadic, Jesus > Matip, Coutinho, Batshuayi (-8)

Currently on A. I'm catching ML leader with 30-ish point gap.

Though Sturridge might be the better of the punts.

Is it worth -4 to upgrade here?

After Haz to Cout I will have 3m in the bank which seems so wrong for the final GW!

Maybe Holgate to Terry (or Alonso)?

    Wally.
    Monreal. Stephens. Holding.
Haz (to Cout). Pedro. Sane. Sanchez (c)
    Kane. Jesus. Costa

    Pickford. Yoshi. Holgate. Carroll

Guys.. Quick question.. How do we qualify for the cup in fantasy league? is there like a minimum points to hit before GW18 or something. I recon i did pretty well in start but i still failed to qualify for the cup..

It's based on the gameweek score the week before the cup starts

Yes is a minimum percentage that week.
Gw18 was a low scoring week for most well seasoned managers.
Plenty of the top hits and girls never qualified

Cabal at least has a reason to keep low conceding.

Does anyone know the current score to get into the top 5k?

150 this week with Alli and Kane to play has currently pushed me from 12k to 6.6k so unexpectedly got a shot of top 5k.

I'm not sure if a hit will be worth at this stage, but Gabbi & Co are not looking like someone that you could expect for any good attacking points at the moment.

Who would you preferred as 7th attacker ?

    A: Gabbi (STK)
    B: Zaha (mun)
    C: Sane (wat) - 4 pts
    D: Pedro (SUN) - 4 pts
    E: Giroud (EVE) - 4 pts

    Sanchez - Alli - Eriksen - Coutinho - Zaha
    Jesus - Kane - Gabbi

I actually think about Wally punt but it seems too risky.

Why? CPL is going to play an unmotivated man utd. Zaha has avg PPG of 4.3.

You will need to punt that either Sane Pedro or Giroud can get over 8 pts to justify the hit. Possible definitely but not worth the risk for me.

Thank you very much. I'm probably thinking about last United home game and a match before the final.

Jose should at least keep good morale and bring the positive team to the cup final.
